Pedro A. Amado Assunção received his Licenciado and Masters degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Coimbra, Portugal, in 1988 and 1993 and the Ph.D degree in 1998 from the University of Essex, United Kingdom. He is author/co-author of four US patents eight book chapters and over an hundred fifty technical and scientific papers published in international conferences and journals. He is professor of Electrical and Electronic Engineering in the Polytechnic Institute of Leiria, Portugal, in the fields of electronics and digital communications, multimedia communications; He is a Senior Researcher at the Instituto de Telecommunicações, where he is currently leading R&D projects and co-supervising MSc and PhD student in several topics within the field of multimedia communications: video coding, adaptation of multimedia for heterogeneous networking and user environments; complexity-aware video coding algorithms, medical image processing, 360-degree and light field coding, signal reconstruction, error concealment and quality of experience (QoE) in audiovisual communications. He is a senior member of the IEEE.
