I received my master’s degree (with honours) in biomedical engineering for the University of Pisa (Italy) and my PhD in BioRobotics (with honours) from the Sant’Anna School of Advanced Studies (Italy) with a thesis titled “Free-standing functionalized nanofilms for biomedical applications”.
Before I joined the Manchester Metropolitan University in February 2025 as Senior Lecturer in Biomedical Manufacturing, I have worked as a Research Fellow at the Future Manufacturing Processes Research Group at the University of Leeds (UK) and at the Centre for Micro-BioRobotics of the Italian Institute of Technology (Italy).
I have an interdisciplinary background, working at the interface between biomedical engineering, material science, manufacturing, and soft robotics. My research focuses on design, formulation, and refinement of new manufacturing process apparatus for advanced fabrication and their applications spanning biomedicine and healthcare.
I have a particular interest in smart materials, with emphasis on electroactive polymers and magnetic responsive polymer composites, and their applications as conformable wearable sensors, soft actuators, microfluidic devices, and devices for minimally invasive surgery.
I’m the author of >30 research papers in high-impact peer-reviewed journals and conference proceedings in this field and have been involved in numerous interdisciplinary and international research projects with academic and industrial collaborators.
