Virginia Kiryakova, D.Sc., Ph.D., is a Bulgarian mathematician known for her works on fractional calculus, special functions and integral transforms, and on the history of fractional calculus. She is Full Professor at the Institute of Mathematics and Informatics of the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences (IMI-BAS), currently Professor Emeritus. She completed her B.Sc. and M.Sc. at Sofia University, and D.Sc. Thesis at Bulgarian Academy of Sciences, Sofia. Editor-in-Chief of the specialized international journal “Fractional Calculus and Applied Analysis” (Springer, at top positions of Web of Sciences rank list). Author of the monograph “Generalized Fractional Calculus and Applications” (Longman-J. Wiley, 1994) and of over 130 scientific surveys and papers cited by others more than 6800 times. In recent years she is included in the list of Top 2% Scientists Worldwide according to the Standford University ranking. Her recent studies are summarized in the Review paper “A Guide to Special Functions in Fractional Calculus” in this journal (Mathematics 2021, v. 9) that received “2021 Best paper Award” from MDPI. She had long years’ work and organization experience as a member of the Executive Body of the National Science Fund, of the General Assembly of Bulgarian Academy of Sciences, Scientific Councils, Editorial Boards, etc. Awarded several academic prizes including a Medal with Ribbon by IMI-BAS for her contributions to the development of mathematics and informatics in Bulgaria.
