Firas H. Kobeissy, Ph.D., Department of Emergency Medicine, University of Florida, received a Ph.D. in Molecular Neuroscience from the University of Florida in Gainseville, Florida. With over 25 years of experience in his field, Dr. Kobeissy utilizes state-of-the-art proteomic tools to investigate cell death mechanisms involved in different brain insults. Other areas of research interests include traumatic brain injury/blast injury, neurotoxicity, cell death mechanisms, and neuroproteomics. Dr. Kobeissy is the author of several articles, reviews, book chapters, and three international patents. Dr. Kobeissy belongs to several professional societies, including the American Society for Mass Spectrophotometry, the Society for Biological Psychiatry, the American Society for Microbiology, and the Society for Neuroscience. Honorable awards attained by Dr. Kobeissy include being selected as a judge for The 2016 UA Neuro Global Summit (Nov 8–11th in Dublin, Ireland, 2016); Selected Panel Chair at The International Council of Integrative Medicine (Australia Chapter 2008); Sigma Xi Graduate Research Award recipient (2008); The University of Florida, Faculty Research Award (2007); and the Outstanding Student Award, University of Florida (2007).
