In this study, a nanostructured NdFeO3 material was synthesized via a simple process of the hydrolysis of Nd (III) and Fe (III) cations in hot water with 5% NaOH as a precipitating agent. According to the results of the thermal behaviors of each hydroxide, either containing Fe (III) or Nd (III), the perovskite type of neodymium orthoferrite NdFeO3 was simply synthesized by annealing a mixture of Fe (III) and Nd (III) hydroxides at 750 °C. The nanostructured NdFeO3 was obtained in spherical granules with diameters of around 30 nm. The magnetic properties of the material were a coercive force (Hc) of 136.76 Oe, a remanent magnetization (Mr) of 0.68 emu·g–1, and a saturation magnetization (Ms) of 0.79 emu·g–1.

In this work, single-phase nanostructured NdFe1−xCoxO3 (x = 0, 0.1, 0.2, and 0.3) perovskite materials were obtained by annealing stoichiochemistry mixtures of their component hydroxides at 750 °C for 60 min. The partial substitution of Fe by Co in the NdFeO3 crystal lattice leads to significant changes in the structural characteristics, and as a consequence, also alters both the magnetic and optical properties of the resulting perovskites. The low optical band gap (Eg = 2.06 ÷ 1.46 eV) and high coercivity (Hc = 136.76 ÷ 416.06 Oe) give Co-doped NdFeO3 nanoparticles a huge advantage for application in both photocatalysis and hard magnetic devices.

The size and morphology of yttrium orthoferrite nanoparticles were examined in relation to the synthesis conditions. The chemical composition of the crystalline phases resulted from heat treatment of the samples at 650°C varies with the procedure of coprecipitation of yttrium and iron(III) hydroxides. At the same time, heat treatment at 750°C leads to formation of yttrium orthoferrite solely. The size of the YFeO3 crystals is weakly dependent on the initial composition preparation procedure, and the size and shape of their agglomerates are sensitive to the conditions of coprecipitation of the hydroxides.

In this paper, powders consisting of o-EuFeO3 nanoparticles were obtained by the co-precipitation method using two different precipitating agents (NH3 and (NH4)2CO3 solutions; corresponding products were denoted as samples S.1 and S.2, respectively) and followed by annealing for 1 h at 750, 850, and 950 °C. The magnetic, optical, and physicochemical characteristics of S.1 and S.2 were evaluated by means of EDXS (energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy), PXRD (powder X-ray diffraction), TG/DSC (thermogravimetry/differential scanning calorimetry), FTIR (Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy), TEM (transmission electron microscopy), UV-Vis DRS (Ultraviolet–Visible diffuse reflectance spectroscopy), and VSM (vibrating-sample magnetometry). The o-EuFeO3 structure was shown to be stable at annealed temperatures, and t = 850 °C is recommended for synthesizing such substances. The average size of o-EuFeO3 crystals is around 27 (S.1) and 34 nm (S.2). The results revealed a homogeneous distribution of the main elements on the samples’ surfaces, with morphology consisting of isometric and highly agglomerated nanoparticles. The bandgap value (Eg) of the synthesized samples was 2.31 (S.1) and 2.39 eV (S.2). Besides, these nanoparticles appeared to possess paramagnetic behavior.
