Intergranular corrosion is one of the most important processes affecting the behaviour of austenitic stainless steels. Factors such as steel chemical composition, the degree of prior deformation and the exposure temperature affect the degree of sensitisation. AISI 316L (0% CW) steel was annealed at 650 °C for 5, 10, 30, 100, 300 and 1000 h to analyse the influence of isothermal annealing on the precipitation of secondary phases. AISI 316L steel after 40% cold working and subsequent annealing at 650 °C for 1, 1.5, 2, 5 and 10 h was investigated. Time–temperature sensitisation (TTS) diagrams were created based on corrosion test (ASTM A 262, practice A) results. In the case of AISI 316L (0% CW), M23C6, chi and sigma phases precipitated at grain boundaries, and the Laves phase was mainly inside of the grains. In the case of AISI 316L (40% CW), sigma, chi, Laves and M23C6 were identified and precipitated mainly along the grain boundaries as well as on the shear bands within different annealing times. It was confirmed that the increase in the annealing time caused an increase in the amounts of secondary phases. Secondary phases in the equilibrium state were calculated using Thermo-Calc software.

The following study examines the impact of temperature on the deposition of components using Cold Metal Transfer–Wire Arc Additive Manufacturing technology. In the experiment, two overlay weld wall structures were created by applying an interpass temperature of 100 °C and without additional cooling. Subsequently, the microstructural and mechanical properties were observed. No changes in the microstructure due to the application of the interpass temperature were confirmed, and the microstructure of the manufactured components, in both cases, consisted of columnar dendrites. It was found that applying an interpass temperature reduced the average ultimate tensile strength by nearly 65 MPa and the average offset yield strength by 82 MPa. The influence of the cooling strategy on the resulting microstructure was not confirmed. Transmission electron microscopy analysis confirmed the presence of strengthening phases γ′/γ″ in both components; however, a larger amount of the strengthening phase γ″ was found in the component manufactured without the application of an interpass temperature.

This paper analyses the current state of welding duplex stainless steel (DSS). Despite of well-known procedures of welding DSS by standard methods, nowadays modern technologies brings several issues. Electron beam welding showed the problems with achieving the similar phase composition to base metal. By changing the focusing distance and using the post-heating it was possible to bring extra heat input to weld joint what promoted the creation of austenite. Post-heating was performed by additional electron beam pass. By modification of welding procedure it was possible to obtain the phase composition very similar to base metal.

A laser beam is the light that is subject to the laws of physics. Surface roughness can cause that the light can be reflected in different angles. Therefore, the surface roughness may influence the amount of light to be reflected so the...

The paper deals with the welding of AW 2099-T83 aluminium lithium alloy being used for construction of lower wing stringers. The thickness of AW 2099-T83 aluminium lithium alloy was 25.4 mm. Electron beam welding with the accelerating voltage of 55 kV was used for production of welded joints. Welded joints were inspected by computer tomography, macroscopic and microscopic analysis, tensile strength test and microhardness measurement. Welded joints exhibited good weld joint formation, typical to electron beam welding. Weld metal was structure was dendritic formed by α solid solution. Decrease of microhardness was observed mainly in the centre of weld metal due to dissolution of precipitates. The fracture occurred in the weld metal during tensile strength test. Further research will focus on post-heat treatment of welded joints in order to improve mechanical properties of weld metal.
