Polyamide (PA) 6 was modified by diffuse coplanar surface barrier discharge (DCSBD) plasma in an atmosphere of nitrogen and oxygen. The surface roughness decrease of PA 6 was detected by AFM and nano-indentation after modification in DCSBD plasma. A significant increase in O/C and N/C ratios of plasma-modified PA 6 using XPS analysis was found. The results show the importance of introducing oxygenic polar functional groups on the polymeric surface in order to increase its surface energy during a short time of plasma activation. The modification of PA 6 by DCSBD oxygen plasma was more efficient than by nitrogen plasma.
The following study examines the impact of temperature on the deposition of components using Cold Metal Transfer–Wire Arc Additive Manufacturing technology. In the experiment, two overlay weld wall structures were created by applying an interpass temperature of 100 °C and without additional cooling. Subsequently, the microstructural and mechanical properties were observed. No changes in the microstructure due to the application of the interpass temperature were confirmed, and the microstructure of the manufactured components, in both cases, consisted of columnar dendrites. It was found that applying an interpass temperature reduced the average ultimate tensile strength by nearly 65 MPa and the average offset yield strength by 82 MPa. The influence of the cooling strategy on the resulting microstructure was not confirmed. Transmission electron microscopy analysis confirmed the presence of strengthening phases γ′/γ″ in both components; however, a larger amount of the strengthening phase γ″ was found in the component manufactured without the application of an interpass temperature.

The TMCP (thermo-mechanically controlled processed) steels belong to the group of ultra-high strength steels, which exhibit exceptional combination of high tensile and yield strength, toughness and ductility. These steels were introduced in the heavy machinery constructions, such as heavy mobile cranes, chassis trucks and other to reduce their weight, what increases their loading capacity and ecology of transport. The high tensile and yield strength of this type of steels is obtained by the combination of the chemical composition, heat treatment and the mechanical processing. However, the heat input into the material during the welding significantly affect properties of the steel and the whole joint. In this paper are presented results of mechanical properties evaluation and structural analysis of the welds of the thin sheets made of the S960MC steel, which were welded using the GMAW procedure. The microstructural evaluation referred significant changes in the HAZ. This area contains the three sub-zones, coarse grain (CGHAZ), fine grain (FGHAZ) and intercritical zone (ICHAZ). Analysis of microhardness and the tensile tests results showed, that ICHAZ is the most critical area of the whole welded joint.
Electron beam welding (EBW) became widely spread in the branches of mechanical engineering connected with manufacturing of aviation and aerospace equipment. At present time much attention is paid to increasing the quality of essential and highly-loaded components obtained by means of EBW. This requirement is closely connected with butt positioning accuracy of the manipulator output members included into an automatic electron beam production complex (AEBPC). The control algorithm of a manipulator output member positioning process is given in the paper for path following based on the developed mathematical model of accounting the kinematic and dynamical characteristics of manipulators included into an automatic electron beam production complex (AEBPC). The feature of the model is accounting the electron beam (EB) deviation from the ideal position based on manipulators errors. Inclusion of the simulation results into the control model of electron beam welding process will allow increasing the quality of weld joints

A laser beam is the light that is subject to the laws of physics. Surface roughness can cause that the light can be reflected in different angles. Therefore, the surface roughness may influence the amount of light to be reflected so the...
