All the installations, devices, and annexes within the laser and the gamma ray production system within the ELI-NP project from Magurele are installed on an inertial platform that weighs over 54,000 tons. The platform is made of concrete, is insulated from the outside environment, and is supported by spring batteries and shock absorbers. The flatness of this platform respects some very strict standards, and, taking into account the processes that take place on the platform, the transmission of the different trepidations of the environment to the inertial mass must be extremely low. For this reason, a static study and a vibration analysis of the platform, performed in this paper, are required. The static analysis verifies if the flatness of the platform can be observed in operating conditions, and the dynamic analysis verifies how excitations coming from the external environment can be transmitted to the measuring equipment. The finite element method is used both to determine the deformability of the concrete platform for different loads, placed at different points and to determine its eigenvalues and its eigenmodes of vibration. The obtained results are analyzed and constructive solutions are proposed to improve the realized system, through a judicious placement of the installations and the distribution of the masses on the platform.

The goal of this paper is to highlight the advantage fulfilled by a novel engine mechanism, the concept of which is based on an oscillating arm relative to the classical engine mechanism. Further, the results of this paper demonstrate the benefits of a novel type of mechanism and the major advantages in terms of functioning parameters of an engine. Their performances highly depend on the joint positions of the oscillating arm. The increases in the functional performances rate of success (i.e., piston stroke, volume of the combustion chamber or compression ratio) enable a superior engine power parameter (higher power, torque) and bring some additional improvement on the eco parameters of the engine related to consumption, emission, etc.

This paper presents the analysis of the vibration of the interaction chamber (IC), a medium vacuum chamber, that uses linear actuators controlled on the basis of complex signals acquired from the IC and its surrounding space. This research mainly focuses on the kinematic precision assured by the mechanical system represented by the IC with component parts. The performance obtained by the quadrature acting system for the sample holder will be compared with the error introduced. The software implements two loops: the image acquisition from the digital camera and the detection of the target for the X–Y linear stage. Considering the vibration of the structure, the geometry of the whole system, the kinematics, and the dynamic model are detailed; the hardware’s influence, in conjunction with the corresponding firmware of the tracking installation, is analyzed with regard to positioning precision and dynamics. For the IC, the transmissibility from the ground to the target (which is an important measure for the correct functioning of the system) was determined. As a result, it is necessary to re-design the target’s lever in order to reduce the vibrations during the experiments. This paper presents the analysis of the vibration of the interaction chamber (IC), a medium vacuum chamber, that uses linear actuators controlled on the basis of complex signals acquired from the IC and its surrounding space. This research concerning the topic, pursues the design, manufacturing, analysis and testing of the manhole cover that may be used in pedestrian networks. Although there are certain commercially available manhole covers made of glass-reinforced composites, there are a few papers published related to the modelling, simulation and mechanical testing of such parts. Herein, the manhole cover is made of the sandwich composite. The novelty of this kind of cover is to use an oriented strand board (OSB) as the core between two sides containing layers, which are reinforced with glass fibers. The OSB core leads to the increase of the stiffness-weight ratio. The paper describes the materials corresponding to the layers of the composite cover, geometry of the cover, technology used to manufacture the bending specimens and cover tested. Specimens made of materials that correspond to each layer of the cover, are tested in bending in order to determine their mechanical properties (flexural strength and flexural modulus). Bending tests and testing of the cover are also described. The composite manhole cover is also analysed by the finite element method to obtain the state of stresses and strains. The strains of the manhole cover are experimentally measured by using the tensometric method. Finally, comparing the strains with the strains experimentally measured validates the numerical simulation model.

Inertial dampers ensure, through the structural design, mechanical energy dissipation due to vibration or noise generating source. Also these dampers allow, as result of vibration energy dissipation in volume of plastics on the one hand and as result of dissipative higher power efficiency and stability on the other hand (due to the high energy absorption distributed system) the use of corresponding nonlinear zone flexibility based plastics. Moreover, the spatial distribution of inertial masses ensure a more uniform thermal loading plastic base and can be achieved without breaking conditions thereby avoiding pregnancy and the development of concentrators zones in basic plastic. The same spatial distribution in conjunction with inertial masses form, their surface roughness and especially the flexibility of plastics allow obtaining anisotropic features extremely useful. In this paper a study of a such type of damper is made.
