Optimal Reactive Power Dispatch (ORPD is thought of as a noncontinuous, nonlinear global optimization problem. Within the system’s constraints, the ORPD manages to accomplish the reactive power flow. Due to its more intricate linkage of variables, the reactive power issue is more challenging to resolve than the optimum power flow issue. With the existence of renewable energy resources (RERs), solving the ORPD problem to attain the most stable and secure system condition has become a more challenging task. The goal of this article is to solve the objective function of ORPD combined with RERs using a metaheuristic novel optimizer named the African Vultures Optimization Algorithm abbreviated by (AVOA), where the formulation of the ORPD issue including minimization of three single objective functions as follows, voltage deviation, system operating cost, and real power loss, is introduced and also transmission power loss minimization is embraced with the simultaneous incorporation of the optimal renewable energy resources (RERs). Where the ORPD problem complexity grows exponentially with a mixture of continuous and discrete control variables, two distinct continuous and discrete types of optimization variables are considered, and the proposed single objective functions that meet different operating constraints are then transformed into a coefficient multi-objective ORPD problem and elucidated using the weighted sum approach. To validate the suggested algorithm’s effectiveness in addressing the ORPD issue, it is evaluated on three standard IEEE networks: the IEEE-30 bus small-scale network, the IEEE-57 bus medium-scale network, and the IEEE-118 bus large-scale network using different scenarios and the outcomes are compared to these other popular optimization techniques. The findings show that the suggested AVOA algorithm provides an efficient and sturdy high-quality solution for tackling ORPD situations and vastly enhances the overall system performance of power at all scales.

The purpose of this paper is to address an urgent operational issue referring to optimal power flow (OPF), which is associated with a number of technical and financial aspects relating to issues of environmental concern. In the last few decades, OPF has become one of the most significant issues in nonlinear optimization research. OPF generally improves the performance of electric power distribution, transmission, and production within the constraints of the control system. It is the purpose of an OPF to determine the most optimal way to run a power system. For the power system, OPFs can be created with a variety of financial and technical objectives. Based on these findings, this paper proposes the peafowl optimization algorithm (POA). A powerful meta-heuristic optimization algorithm inspired by collective foraging activities among peafowl swarms. By balancing local exploitation with worldwide exploration, the OPF is able to strike a balance between exploration and exploitation. In order to solve optimization problems involving OPF, using the standard IEEE 14-bus and 57-bus electrical network, a POA has been employed to find the optimal values of the control variables. Further, there are five study cases, namely, reducing fuel costs, real energy losses, voltage skew, fuel cost as well as reducing energy loss and voltage skew, and reducing fuel costs as well as reducing energy loss and voltage deviation, as well as reducing emissions costs. The use of these cases facilitates a fair and comprehensive evaluation of the superiority and effectiveness of POA in comparison with the coot optimization algorithm (COOT), golden jackal optimization algorithm (GJO), heap-based optimizer (HPO), leader slime mold algorithm (LSMA), reptile search algorithm (RSA), sand cat optimization algorithm (SCSO), and the skills optimization algorithm (SOA). Based on simulations, POA has been demonstrated to outperform its rivals, including COOT, GJO, HPO, LSMA, RSA, SCSO, and SOA. In addition, the results indicate that POA is capable of identifying the most appropriate worldwide solutions. It is also successfully investigating preferred search locations, ensuring a fast convergence speed and enhancing the search engine’s capabilities.

The percentage of renewable energy in the global mix of energy sources is rising annually, with solar photovoltaics (PVs) accounting for most capacity expansions due to their widespread availability, safety, and cleanliness. Because the amount of energy generated is limited by the poor efficiency of the photovoltaic cells and the characteristics of the connected load and weather fluctuation, maximum power point tracking (MPPT) strategies are crucial for maximizing the power delivered in PV production systems. These MPPT techniques face several issues and limitations, so this paper has focused more on modeling and developing the MPPT techniques in PV systems. The MPPT-based methodologies fall into three categories: artificial intelligence (AI), metaheuristic, and conventional. Five of these techniques have been proposed here to solve the MPPT problem. The perturb & observe (P&O) and incremental conductance (INC) methods have been used as conventional methods. In contrast, particle swarm optimization (PSO) has been used as a metaheuristic method. Finally, the artificial neural network (ANN) and fuzzy logic control (FLC) techniques have been used as AI methods. Each technique is analyzed critically in terms of tracking speed, algorithm complexity, and dynamic tracking in different environmental conditions. Furthermore, this comprehensive study of MPPT methods aims to be a guideline for selecting the best MPPT method for optimal operation under the environmental conditions of PV systems by employing multi-criteria decision-making (MCDM) based on AHP and CRITIC weighting methods, as well as the ranking method (VIKOR), to compare and rank the MPPT methods based on their effectiveness and economic feasibility. The results show AI techniques have a tracking efficiency of almost 99% when compared to other examined approaches, and they give quick and efficient tracking speed.

Today's electrical power system is a complicated network that is expanding rapidly. The power transmission lines are more heavily loaded than ever before, which causes a host of problems like increased power losses, unstable voltage, and line overloads. Real and reactive power can be optimized by placing energy resources at appropriate locations. Congested networks benefit from this to reduce losses and enhance voltage profiles. Hence, the optimal power flow problem (OPF) is crucial for power system planning. As a result, electricity system operators can meet electricity demands efficiently and ensure the reliability of the power systems. The classical OPF problem ignores network emissions when dealing with thermal generators with limited fuel. Renewable energy sources are becoming more popular due to their sustainability, abundance, and environmental benefits. This paper examines modified IEEE-30 bus and IEEE-118 bus systems as case studies. Integrating renewable energy sources into the grid can negatively affect its performance without adequate planning. In this study, control variables were optimized to minimize fuel cost, real power losses, emission cost, and voltage deviation. It also met operating constraints, with and without renewable energy. This solution can be further enhanced by the placement of distributed generators (DGs). A modified Artificial Hummingbird Algorithm (mAHA) is presented here as an innovative and improved optimizer. In mAHA, local escape operator (LEO) and opposition-based learning (OBL) are integrated into the basic Artificial Hummingbird Algorithm (AHA). An improved version of AHA, mAHA, seeks to improve search efficiency and overcome limitations. With the CEC'2020 test suite, the mAHA has been compared to several other meta-heuristics for addressing global optimization challenges. To test the algorithm's feasibility, standard and modified test systems were used to solve the OPF problem. To assess the effectiveness of mAHA, the results were compared to those of seven other global optimization algorithms. According to simulation results, the proposed algorithm minimized the cost function and provided convergent solutions.

Nowadays, the electrical power system has become a more complex, interconnected network that is expanding every day. Hence, the power system faces many problems such as increasing power losses, voltage deviation, line overloads, etc. The optimization of real and reactive power due to the installation of energy resources at appropriate buses can minimize the losses and improve the voltage profile, especially for congested networks. As a result, the optimal distributed generation allocation (ODGA) problem is considered a more proper tool for the processes of planning and operation of power systems due to the power grid changes expeditiously based on the type and penetration level of renewable energy sources (RESs). This paper modifies the AO using a quasi-oppositional-based learning operator to address this problem and reduce the burden on the primary grid, making the grid more resilient. To demonstrate the effectiveness of the MAO, the authors first test the algorithm performance on twenty-three competitions on evolutionary computation benchmark functions, considering different dimensions. In addition, the modified Aquila optimizer (MAO) is applied to tackle the optimal distributed generation allocation (ODGA) problem. The proposed ODGA methodology presented in this paper has a multi-objective function that comprises decreasing power loss and total voltage deviation in a distribution system while keeping the system operating and security restrictions in mind. Many publications investigated the effect of expanding the number of DGs, whereas others found out the influence of DG types. Here, this paper examines the effects of different types and capacities of DG units at the same time. The proposed approach is tested on the IEEE 33-bus in different cases with several multiple DG types, including multi-objectives. The obtained simulation results are compared to the Aquila optimizer, particle swarm optimization algorithm, and trader-inspired algorithm. According to the comparison, the suggested approach provides a superior solution for the ODGA problem with faster convergence in the DNs.
