Joachim R. de Miranda is Associate Professor and research scientist at the Department of Ecology, Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences (SLU). He obtained his PhD degree in ecological genetics from Liverpool University, England, in 1987. His research for the past 20 years concerns the health, pathology, and disease ecology of bees, particular focus on the characterization, evolution, adaptation, and host-pathogen interactions of bee viruses, with operational scales ranging from the subcellular to landscape level. Prior to that, he worked in a succession of different countries on viral diseases of various crop plants, with again host-virus co-adaptation and virus evolution as the main themes. He is member of several professional societies, networking organizations, and stakeholder organizations where he has occupied a number of organizational and management positions.
