(1) Background: confinement by COVID-19 in 2020 meant that face-to-face teaching changed to virtual teaching. The goal of this study was to test how confinement affected to self-regulation of motivation (SRM); (2) Methods: a longitudinal design was used to obtain information from 75 university students in three moments: before confinement, 20 days after confinement, and 40 days after confinement. The SRM Strategies Questionnaire and the Pittsburgh Sleep Index were used to evaluate the study variables; (3) Results: the SRM decreased as confinement progressed. Moreover, those students who had higher levels of SRM before confinement, showed worse sleep quality 20 days after. There was no interaction effect between moments and gender and between moments and work situation on any of the dimensions of the SRM. There were gender differences (women scored higher) in almost all of the SRM dimensions in the three moments, but there were no differences dependent on the work situation (i.e., only study or study and work); (4) Conclusions: the change from face-to-face classes to virtual learning decreased the SRM of university students and was related to worse sleep quality. Women showed higher levels of SRM than men, but these levels were reduced to the same extent in both genders.

Objective: To improve the scapulohumeral joint limitations and increase the health-related quality of life (HRQOL) in women with lymphedema secondary to breast neoplasms. Methods: A preexperimental design (with pre- and posttest evaluations in only one group) was conducted in a group of 11 women with lymphedema secondary to breast cancer. They received 5 individual weekly sessions of 30 minutes each performed with the Wii console and the Wii Balance Board. Measurements: The Oxford Shoulder Score and the Shoulder Pain and Disability Index were used for the data measurements of both shoulder pain and disability; Functional Assessment of Cancer Therapy Questionnaire General and Functional Assessment of Cancer Therapy Questionnaire for Breast Cancer were used to evaluate HRQOL; muscle strength was tested with an electronic manual dynamometer and range of motion by manual goniometry. Results: Statistically significant improvements were reported: pain (P = .011), disability (P > .05), HRQOL associated with lymphedema (P = .016), strength (P < .05), and range of articular motion (P < .05). Conclusions: The results suggest that a video game–based program is useful for addressing limitations relating to lymphedema and require further investigation.

The purposes of the study were to identify whether differences exist between Spanish children with ASD and neurotypical development in relation to Activities of Daily Living (ADL), playfulness, and sensory processing; as well as to confirm whether a relation exists between those areas and sensory processing. Study Design: A descriptive cross-sectional study. Methods: Forty children, 20 with a diagnosis of ASD and 20 with neurotypical development, were recruited. The measurement tools used were the Pediatric Evaluation of Disability Inventory (PEDI), Test of Playfulness (ToP), and Sensory Processing Measure (SPM). Results: The sensory processing of children with ASD were related to decreased functional skills performance of ADL (F = 94.4, p = 0.00) and playfulness (p = 0.00) than neurotypical children; in addition, the problems of sensory reactivity were associated with worse development in these occupational areas (p = 0.00 for both Spearman correlations). Conclusions: Children with ASD present worse performance of functional skills and playfulness than neurotypical ones. Likewise, sensory reactivity is related to the development in the occupational areas.

Purpose: To check for changes in sleep in three temporary times: before COVID-19 lockdown in university students, and also twenty days and forty days afterwards, as well as to see how it has influenced in their daily activities. Materials and Methods: A longitudinal study was conducted with a sample of 75 participants from different Spanish universities. The Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index and the Adapted Interest List were administered to evaluate the main variables of the study. Results: About 70.7% of the sample showed worse sleep quality at 20 days, almost twice as much as before confinement (37.3%), there were more problems falling asleep (F(2, 75) = − 3.14, p = 0.002), and more difficulty getting back to sleep when waking up at night (F(2.75) = 2.08, p = 0.037) at 40 days of lockdown. In addition, as confinement time went on, students showed less activities. Factors such as working, in addition to studying, and relaxing activities (reading, listening to music) were associated with better sleep quality. Conclusion: Sleep quality worsened during lockdown in university students, as well as both 20 and 40 days later. Staying busy during the day (not only studying but also working) and spending free time on relaxing activities are related to better sleep quality.

Mental disorders and psychiatric institutionalization reduce the volition and limit the occupational performance of those affected. This article investigates the relationship between volition and occupational performance of people with mental disorders and analyzes the influence of sociodemographic variables on their volition. The results show that high levels of volition and regular participation in occupational therapy programs improve independence in daily occupational performance but also show that psychiatric pathology and the length of institutionalization reduce this volition.

Objectives Our aims were (1) to compare the sensory organisation of balance control and balance strategies between women with fibromyalgia (FM) and healthy women; (2) to investigate which sensory component, that is, vestibular, visual or somato-sensory, is the most affected in FM and (3) to determine the associations between the functional independence measure (FIM) and balance responses in FM. Design Cross-sectional observational study. Setting Urban regional hospital and university (Universidad Rey Juan Carlos, Madrid, Spain). Participants Twenty women with FM and 20 matched healthy women. Primary/secondary outcome measures The sensory organisation test (SOT) was used to determine postural sway and balance during six different conditions with subjects in a standing position. The FIM was used to determine the level of functional independence in daily life activities (ADL). Between-group differences were analysed with analysis of covariance, and the Spearman's test was used for correlations. Results Significant differences between-groups and between-conditions were found for all SOT conditions (all, p<0.001): women with FM showed lower scores being the vestibular score the most affected. Different correlations between SOT conditions and some specific ADL were observed in the FM group: bathing activity and balance condition 6 (rs=0.541; p<0.001), bed transfers activity and conditions 2 (rs=0.491; p<0.001) and 3 (rs=0.510; p<0.001), positioning strategy six and dressing the upper (rs=0.530; p<0.001) or lower (rs=0.562; p<0.001) body, and toileting (rs=0.521; p<0.001): the greater the loss of balance, the greater the interference on some daily life activities. Conclusions Women with FM exhibited balance deficiencies and used different strategies for maintaining their balance in standing, which was associated with a negative impact on functional independence.

To analyze the applicability of the Pediatric Evaluation of Disability Inventory (PEDI) to the Spanish population, and to assess the influence of demographic variables on the functional performance of the child. The Spanish version of the PEDI was administered via interview representing a sample of 199 children without disability. The applicability of the PEDI was analyzed with the Welch t test and differences between the variables were analyzed using single-factor analysis of variance. Significant differences in overall and domain-specific performance were found between Spanish and American samples. The Spanish sample's average score was lower than the American sample. Differences in performance within the Spanish sample were found by age, sex, and rural/urban living environment. The normative values of the PEDI should be applied with caution in the Spanish population until further data are available; however, the PEDI remains a useful instrument for monitoring functional change.

3rd International Conference on the Elderly and New Technologies. III Jornadas Internacionales de Mayores y Nuevas Tecnologías.Cerebral palsy (cp) describes a group of permanent disorders of the development of movement and posture, causing activity limitation, that are attributed to non progressive disturbances that occurred in the developing fetal or infant brain. The increasing life expectancy in people with cp allows speaking about people with cp in aging process from 45 years old. The cp Association of Burgos carried out an education proposal which includes an Information and Comunication Technologies (ICTs) workshop. The aim of the proposal was to increase their social relations and create new forms of expression using ICTs. They have learned how to use Windows, word processor programs, how to manage open softwaresand Internet access and they have developed searching strategies, managed e-mail and participated in social networks. The experience has increased their self-esteem and their sense of achievement. These feelings allow to break the stereotype of elderly people and disability.
