Nutrients (nitrogen and phosphorus) are among the water quality parameters that cannot be easily removed from wastewater. Unfortunately, the excessive accumulation of nutrients in water can lead to numerous health issues for humans and the environment in general (including aquatic life). This study looked into the potential use of polymeric nanofiltration membranes to remove total phosphorus, ammonia, nitrate, and nitrite from poultry slaughterhouse wastewater. The wastewater samples were subjected to three different treatment systems determined by pore sizes (0.4, 0.6, and 0.8 nm) as well as an integrated system composed of ultrafiltration and nanofiltration as the main units. The results of the study showed that pore size can significantly affect a nanofiltration system’s overall performance for removing nutrients from poultry slaughterhouse wastewater. The phenomenon was supported by the analysis of variance (ANOVA) results, which showed that the treated effluent’s concentrations of the investigated water quality parameters at different pore sizes produced p-values that were less than 0.01 (statistically significant). According to the results of the removal efficiency analysis, the combination of ammonia and a 0.8 nm pore size demonstrated the lowest removal efficiency, with a removal rate of around 54.57%. However, the combination of nitrate and a 0.4 nm pore size showed the best removal efficiency of about 90.5%. On the other hand, the integrated treatment was observed to be highly effective in the removal of the investigated parameters with a removal efficiency ranging from 97.8 to 99.71%. The study’s findings offer useful information about the potential use of nanofiltration treatment systems for wastewater from poultry slaughterhouses.

This study outlines a method for preparing a complex involving glycoluril and melamine (GU-ME). The structure of the resultant complex was analyzed using IR and NMR spectroscopy. In the subsequent phase, the polymer GUMEFA was derived from the resultant complex, employing hydroxyethylidene diphosphonic acid (HEDP) as a sustainable plasticizer, with a proposed chemical mechanism for its formation. The molecular weight of the resulting GUMEFA was analyzed, and the formation chemistry was proposed. GUMEFA was characterized, and its free formaldehyde and methylol group contents were investigated. It was observed that GUMEFA prepared with HEDP contained approximately 1.15–1.34 wt.% free formaldehyde and 1.56–0.54 wt.% methylol groups. These findings provide valuable insights for developing resins of different compositions and applications, thereby paving the way for producing composite materials with tailored properties.

For the first time, it was experimentally demonstrated that the activation of drinking water obtained from underground sources in the Akmola Region with red light leads to the formation of stable iron–organic complexes in the water. The findings showed that irradiation changes the chemical forms of iron and organic impurities, thereby affecting their reactivity, solubility, and stability in the aqueous medium. A comparative assessment of the chemical activity of organic components from different water sources towards iron (III) ions revealed differences in their complex-forming ability and reactivity. The complexation coefficient was found to depend on both the nature of the organic substances and the duration of red-light exposure, confirming the dynamic character of the processes involved. These patterns may be used to regulate complexation processes and modify the properties of water in a targeted manner. The practical significance of the study lies in the potential application of red-light-activated water in the development of biologically active waters intended to help prevent iron-deficiency anaemia and support the normalization of physiological processes in the human body.

The prevalence of numerous infectious diseases has emerged as a grave concern within the realm of healthcare. Currently, the issue of antibiotic resistance is compelling scientists to explore novel treatment approaches. To combat these infectious diseases, various treatment methods have been developed, harnessing cutting-edge disinfecting nanomaterials. Among the range of metallic nanoparticles employed in medicine, silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) stand out as both highly popular and well-suited for the task. They find extensive utility in cancer diagnosis and therapies and as effective antibacterial agents. The interaction between silver and bacterial cells induces significant structural and morphological alterations, ultimately leading to cell demise. In this study, nanoparticles based on silver and bambusuril[6] (BU[6]) were developed for the first time. These NPs can be used for different biomedical purposes. A simple, single-step, and effective synthesis method was employed to produce bambusuril[6]-protected silver chloride nanoparticles (BU[6]-Ag/AgCl NPs) through the complexation of BU[6] with silver nitrate. The NPs were characterized using X-ray phase analysis (XPS), infrared spectroscopy (IR), thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDS). When the SEM images were examined, it was seen that the synthesized BU[6]-Ag/AgCl NPs were distributed with homogeneous sizes, and the synthesized NPs were mostly spherical and cubic. The EDS spectra of BU[6]-Ag/AgCl NPs demonstrated the presence of Ag, Cl, and all expected elements. BU[6]-Ag/AgCl NPs showed high antibacterial activity against both E. coli and S. aureus bacteria.

The provision of safe, high-quality drinking water is becoming increasingly important due to the growing anthropogenic pressure on water resources, the deterioration of environmental conditions, and stricter requirements for the sanitary and hygienic characteristics of water. Drinking water quality is one of the key factors determining public health, ecosystem stability, and regional environmental safety. Therefore, a comprehensive investigation of natural and drinking water is of considerable scientific and practical significance. The aim of this study was to conduct a comprehensive assessment of groundwater quality based on physicochemical and radiological parameters using modern statistical methods. The parameters evaluated included total mineralization, acidity (pH), total hardness, and the concentrations of calcium, magnesium, iron, manganese, copper, and other components. Experimental data were processed using descriptive statistics, Pearson’s correlation analysis, Student’s t-test, one-way analysis of variance (ANOVA), and multiple regression analysis. In addition, mathematical modelling was performed to determine the dependence of the integral water quality indicator on the chemical composition and mineralization level of groundwater. The results revealed statistically significant relationships among total mineralization, water hardness, and the concentrations of major ions. Total dissolved solids (TDS), as well as calcium and magnesium concentrations, were found to have the greatest influence on the integral water quality assessment. The developed regression model enables the evaluation and prediction of changes in groundwater quality depending on its chemical composition. The radiological parameters of the analysed samples were within the established regulatory limits. The findings may be applied to drinking water quality monitoring, environmental control, the improvement of water treatment technologies, and the assessment of natural and anthropogenic impacts. The practical significance of the study lies in the potential application of the developed model to support evidence-based management decisions in regional water supply and water resource management.
