Real-world applications often involve imbalanced datasets, which have different distributions of examples across various classes. When building a system that requires a high accuracy, the performance of the classifiers is crucial. However, imbalanced datasets can lead to a poor classification performance and conventional techniques, such as synthetic minority oversampling technique. As a result, this study proposed a balance between the datasets using adversarial learning methods such as generative adversarial networks. The model evaluated the effect of data augmentation on both the balanced and imbalanced datasets. The study evaluated the classification performance on three different datasets and applied data augmentation techniques to generate the synthetic data for the minority class. Before the augmentation, a decision tree was applied to identify the classification accuracy of all three datasets. The obtained classification accuracies were 79.9%, 94.1%, and 72.6%. A decision tree was used to evaluate the performance of the data augmentation, and the results showed that the proposed model achieved an accuracy of 82.7%, 95.7%, and 76% on a highly imbalanced dataset. This study demonstrates the potential of using data augmentation to improve the classification performance in imbalanced datasets.

Radio frequency identification (RFID) is a rapidly developing technology, and RFID sensors have become important components in many common technology applications. The passive ultra-high frequency (UHF) tags used in RFID sensors have a higher data transfer rate and longer read range and usually come in unique small and portable application designs. However, these tags suffer from significant frequency interference when mounted on metallic materials or placed near liquid surfaces. This paper presents the recent advancements made in passive UHF-RFID tag designs proposed to resolve the interference problems. We focus on those designs that are intended to improve antenna read range as well as scalability designs for miniaturized applications.

Automatic image caption prediction is a challenging task in natural language processing. Most of the researchers have used the convolutional neural network as an encoder and decoder. However, an accurate image caption prediction requires a model to understand the semantic relationship that exists between the various objects present in an image. The attention mechanism performs a linear combination of encoder and decoder states. It emphasizes the semantic information present in the caption with the visual information present in an image. In this paper, we incorporated the Bahdanau attention mechanism with two pre-trained convolutional neural networks—Vector Geometry Group and InceptionV3—to predict the captions of a given image. The two pre-trained models are used as encoders and the Recurrent neural network is used as a decoder. With the help of the attention mechanism, the two encoders are able to provide semantic context information to the decoder and achieve a bilingual evaluation understudy score of 62.5. Our main goal is to compare the performance of the two pre-trained models incorporated with the Bahdanau attention mechanism on the same dataset.

Background and Objectives: Brain tumors are complex diseases that require careful diagnosis and treatment. A minor error in the diagnosis may easily lead to significant consequences. Thus, one must place a premium on accurately identifying brain tumors. However, deep learning (DL) models often face challenges in obtaining sufficient medical imaging data due to legal, privacy, and technical barriers hindering data sharing between institutions. This study aims to implement a federated learning (FL) approach with privacy-preserving techniques (PPTs) directed toward segmenting brain tumor lesions in a distributed and privacy-aware manner. Methods: The suggested approach employs a model of 3D U-Net, which is trained using federated learning on the BraTS 2020 dataset. PPTs, such as differential privacy, are included to ensure data confidentiality while managing privacy and heterogeneity challenges with minimal communication overhead. The efficiency of the model is measured in terms of Dice similarity coefficients (DSCs) and 95% Hausdorff distances (HD95) concerning the target areas concerned by tumors, which include the whole tumor (WT), tumor core (TC), and enhancing tumor core (ET). Results: In the validation phase, the partial federated model achieved DSCs of 86.1%, 83.3%, and 79.8%, corresponding to 95% values of 25.3 mm, 8.61 mm, and 9.16 mm for WT, TC, and ET, respectively. On the final test set, the model demonstrated improved performance, achieving DSCs of 89.85%, 87.55%, and 86.6%, with HD95 values of 22.95 mm, 8.68 mm, and 8.32 mm for WT, TC, and ET, respectively, which indicates the effectiveness of the segmentation approach, and its privacy preservation. Conclusion: This study presents a highly competitive, collaborative federated learning model with PPTs that can successfully segment brain tumor lesions without compromising patient data confidentiality. Future work will improve model generalizability and extend the framework to other medical imaging tasks.

Nowadays, countries face a multitude of electronic threats that have permeated almost all business sectors, be it private corporations or public institutions. Among these threats, advanced persistent threats (APTs) stand out as a well-known example. APTs are highly sophisticated and stealthy computer network attacks meticulously designed to gain unauthorized access and persist undetected threats within targeted networks for extended periods. They represent a formidable cybersecurity challenge for governments, corporations, and individuals alike. Recognizing the gravity of APTs as one of the most critical cybersecurity threats, this study aims to reach a deeper understanding of their nature and propose a multi-stage framework for automated APT detection leveraging time series data. Unlike previous models, the proposed approach has the capability to detect real-time attacks based on stored attack scenarios. This study conducts an extensive review of existing research, identifying its strengths, weaknesses, and opportunities for improvement. Furthermore, standardized techniques have been enhanced to enhance their effectiveness in detecting APT attacks. The learning process relies on datasets sourced from various channels, including journal logs, traceability audits, and systems monitoring statistics. Subsequently, an efficient APT detection and prevention system, known as the composition-based decision tree (CDT), has been developed to operate in complex environments. The obtained results demonstrate that the proposed approach consistently outperforms existing algorithms in terms of detection accuracy and effectiveess.
