We report the fabrication of a lateral ZnO nanowire UV photodetector on a glass substrate using tungsten as the growth barrier to suppress the vertical growth of the ZnO nanowires. Upon UV illumination, the detector current increased by more than 1 order of magnitude. Furthermore, the noise equivalent power and the normalized detectivity D∗D∗ of the fabricated lateral ZnO nanowire photodetector were 7.89×10−11W7.89×10−11W and 1.9×108cmHz0.5W−11.9×108cmHz0.5W−1 , respectively.

This study reports the deposition of cuprous oxide [Cu2O] onto titanium dioxide [TiO2] nanowires [NWs] prepared on TiO2/glass templates. The average length and average diameter of these thermally oxidized and evaporated TiO2 NWs are 0.1 to 0.4 μm and 30 to 100 nm, respectively. The deposited Cu2O fills gaps between the TiO2 NWs with good step coverage to form nanoshells surrounding the TiO2 cores. The p-Cu2O/n-TiO2 NW heterostructure exhibits a rectifying behavior with a sharp turn-on at approximately 0.9 V. Furthermore, the fabricated p-Cu2O-shell/n-TiO2-nanowire-core photodiodes exhibit reasonably large photocurrent-to-dark-current contrast ratios and fast responses.

In this letter, a WO 3 nanoparticle gas sensor was fabricated using an ICP-assisted hot wire system. The results of experiments indicated that the sensitivity became smaller when the measured temperature increased. It was also found that the WO 3 nanoparticle gas sensor prepared at an annealing temperature of 400°C had the greatest sensitivity. The measured sensitivity for a micro-electromechanical system type WO 3 nanoparticle gas sensor was found to be around 3.22, 3.91, 5.02, 7.52, 11.68, and 15.93 when the operating temperature of the micro-heater was 150°C and the concentration of injected NO gas was 100, 150, 200, 250, 300, and 350 ppb, respectively.

We report the growth of CuO nanowires and the fabrication of crabwise CuO nanowires ethanol gas sensor on glass substrate. It was found that the crabwise interconnector of CuO nanowires could be grown by directly heating Cu film at 450°C in the air. It also demonstrated that the resistance of the fabricated sensor changed upon ethanol gas injection. The sensor response increased with raising concentration of ethanol gas from 25 to 1000 ppm. Also, CuO nanowires tend to exhibit a higher response to ethanol gas with the increasing sensing temperature.
