This paper examines the potential benefits and challenges of using the generative AI model, ChatGPT, in higher education, in the backdrop of the constructivist theory of learning. This perspective-type study presents five benefits of ChatGPT: the potential to facilitate adaptive learning, provide personalised feedback, support research and data analysis, offer automated administrative services, and aid in developing innovative assessments. Additionally, the paper identifies five challenges: academic integrity concerns, reliability issues, inability to evaluate and reinforce graduate skill sets, limitations in assessing learning outcomes, and potential biases and falsified information in information processing. The paper argues that tertiary educators and students must exercise caution when using ChatGPT for academic purposes to ensure its ethical, reliable, and effective use. To achieve this, the paper proposes various propositions, such as prioritising education on the responsible and ethical use of ChatGPT, devising new assessment strategies, addressing bias and falsified information, and including AI literacy as part of graduate skills. By balancing the potential benefits and challenges, ChatGPT can enhance students’ learning experiences in higher education.
Halal tourism represents a distinct segment of the tourism industry for Muslims where relevant services adhere to the Islamic Shariah teachings. Halal tourism has already received increased attention in both non-Muslim and Muslim regions. The aim of this study is to clarify the ambiguity surrounding the concept of halal tourism. To achieve this aim, the objectives of this study are to standardise some dimensions of halal tourism, such as conceptions and definitions, principles, scope and impacts, trends, and opportunities and challenges. A systematic review of literature was conducted, and in total, 27 articles were taken into consideration, in which the review protocol proposed in this study makes use of specific techniques such as PRISMA, applied thematic analysis and bibliographic documentary review within a large hermeneutic-interpretative framework. The theoretical contribution of this study includes characterising the conception, definition and principle of halal marketing, and the practical contribution includes economic, socio-cultural and environmental impacts.
Elderly diabetic patients in developed countries have been widely using digital health wearables for many years to manage their diabetes-related health data accurately. To encourage the increased adoption of digital health wearables among elderly diabetic patients in a developing country, Bangladesh, this study investigated the factors that influenced the existing elderly users’ continuance intention to use this technology. The Technology Acceptance Model (TAM) has been used here as a theoretical basis. A model using structural equation modelling was developed for the elderly diabetic patients’ continuance intention to use digital health wearables. Survey-based data were collected in Bangladesh from 223 diabetic patients aged sixty years and older. This study found that all six constructs, namely, perceived usefulness (β = 0.183), perceived ease of use (β = 0.165), perceived irreplaceability (β = 0.138), perceived credibility (β = 0.165), compatibility (β = 0.285) and social influence (β = 0.226) had a positive influence on elderly diabetic patients’ continuance intention to use digital health wearables. Along with the theoretical contributions, the findings of this study can be used by developers of digital health wearables, manufacturers, marketers and health practitioners in developing better strategies to increase the elderly diabetic patients’ continuance intention to use this technology.
