Neurological diseases are one of the major healthcare issues worldwide. Posed lifestyle changes are associated with drastically increased risk of chronic illness and diseases, posing a substantial healthcare and financial burden to society globally. Researchers aim to provide fine treatment for ailing disorders with minimal exposed side effects. In recent decades, several studies on functional foods have been initiated to obtain foods that have fewer side effects and increased therapeutic activity. Hence, an attempt has been made to unravel several extraction techniques to acquire essential bioactive compounds or phytochemicals from therapeutically active food products. This has led to the conception of the term functional foods being meddled with other similar terms like “pharmafoods,” “medifoods”, “vitafoods”, or “medicinal foods”. With a dire need to adhere towards healthy options, the demand of nutraceuticals is widely increasing to combat neurological interventions. An association between food habits and the individual lifestyle with neurodegeneration has been manifested, thereby proposing the role of nutraceuticals as prophylactic treatment for neurological interventions. The current review covers some of the major neurological disorders and nutraceutical therapy in the prevention of disease.

SARS-CoV-2 (severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2) pandemic represents the primary public health concern nowadays, and great efforts are made worldwide for efficient management of this crisis. Considerable scientific progress was recorded regarding SARS-CoV-2 infection in terms of genomic structure, diagnostic tools, viral transmission, mechanism of viral infection, symptomatology, clinical impact, and complications, but these data evolve constantly. Up to date, neither an effective vaccine nor SARS-CoV-2 specific antiviral agents have been approved, but significant advances were enlisted in this direction by investigating repurposed approved drugs (ongoing clinical trials) or developing innovative antiviral drugs (preclinical and clinical studies). This review presents a thorough analysis of repurposed drug admitted for compassionate use from a chemical structure—biological activity perspective highlighting the ADME (absorption, distribution, metabolism, and excretion) properties and the toxicophore groups linked to potential adverse effects. A detailed pharmacological description of the novel potential anti-COVID-19 therapeutics was also included. In addition, a comprehensible overview of SARS-CoV-2 infection in terms of general description and structure, mechanism of viral infection, and clinical impact was portrayed.

(1) Background: The link between oral and systemic health is becoming increasingly obvious. Oral diseases, particularly periodontitis, have been linked to various diseases including diabetes and cardiovascular disease, among others. This survey aimed to assess the oral health condition of individuals, considering both their overall health and periodontal status, by performing oral examinations and collecting data using questionnaires. (2) Methods: After obtaining approval from the University’s Ethics Committee, the study was carried out from 2021 to 2022 at the Department of Oral Health, located in the Emergency Municipal Hospital in Timisoara, Timis County, Romania. Bivariate correlations were performed using nonparametric Spearman’s Rho using SPPS software version 23. To assess the importance of smoking frequency related to the severity of periodontitis diagnosis, the ANOVA Simple test (one-way) and Hochberg GT2 post hoc analysis were utilized. The chi-squared test was employed for nominal variables. A significance level of 0.05 (alpha = 0.05) was adopted for all statistical tests. (3) Results: There is a significant positive association between the frequency of systemic disease and the severity of the periodontitis diagnosis taken as a total, Rho (242) = 0.151, p < 0.05, and taken as a stage, Rho (242) = 0.199, p < 0.01, thus as the severity of the diagnosis increases, the patient presents comorbidities. Hochberg GT2 post hoc analysis indicates that the non-smoking group has statistically significantly lower diagnostic severity (Mdif = −0.81, p = 0.01), with a strong effect size (Cohen’s d = 0.73). (4) Conclusions: The findings are increasingly indicating a potential association between oral diseases and a range of systemic diseases. The impact of periodontal disease on the quality of life is significant, especially in individuals with associated systemic conditions and present risk factors.

Background and Objectives: This five-year retrospective study evaluated the survival and clinical performance of 1143 zirconium oxide restorations, including both monolithic (144) and layered (999) restorations. Materials and Methods: The analysis included clinical records and follow-up data of patients treated with zirconium oxide restorations. Failures in layered restorations were examined, particularly focusing on chipping caused by unsupported feldspathic ceramic exceeding 1.5 mm. Monolithic restorations were used as a benchmark for durability. Results: The results demonstrated a high overall survival rate of 96.3%, with monolithic restorations achieving a perfect survival rate of 100%, while layered restorations had a survival rate of 95.8%. Failures in the layered restorations were primarily associated with chipping, especially when the unsupported feldspathic ceramic exceeded 1.5 mm. Conclusions: This finding highlights the importance of maintaining adequate support for the ceramic layer to prevent such complications. Monolithic restorations, in contrast, showed superior durability, with no failures reported, making them a more reliable option for long-term success. These findings emphasize the need for the careful selection of zirconium oxide restoration types based on the clinical context, particularly in cases where durability is critical.

This study investigated the attitude of Romanian medical students and doctors toward business ethics by measuring the preference for a particular ethical philosophy, namely, the preference for Machiavellianism, moral objectivism, social Darwinism, ethical relativism, and legalism. At the same time, this study aimed to explore the influence of sex, age, and ethics education on the attitude toward business ethics. The data collection was performed using a voluntary self-administered online survey including the Attitudes Toward Business Ethics Questionnaire (ATBEQ) instrument. Our findings show that the values based on which Romanian medical students and doctors make business decisions belong predominantly to the moral objectivism philosophy, which is grounded on rational actions based on a set of objective moral standards.

Background and Objectives: Resin composites are widely used in restorative dentistry due to their favorable mechanical properties and aesthetics. However, their clinical performance depends on factors such as chemical composition, microhardness, and exposure to environmental challenges like acidic beverages. Materials and Methods: This study evaluated the effects of coffee, red wine, and Coca-Cola on the surface microhardness and chemical composition of two resin composites (G-ænial A’CHORD and Omnichroma). A total of 40 disk-shaped specimens (20 per composite) were fabricated and divided into four groups: control, red wine, coffee, and Coca-Cola. Specimens were immersed in their respective solutions for 10 days, after which Raman spectroscopy, Fourier Transform Infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy and Vickers microhardness testing were conducted to assess mechanical and chemical changes. Paired t-tests were performed to compare pre- and post-immersion values, with significance set at p < 0.05. Raman and FTIR spectroscopy confirmed structural changes, including peak shifts and intensity variations, particularly in polymer–matrix interactions and filler compositions. Results: The Vickers microhardness test revealed significant reductions in hardness for both composites after immersion, with Omnichroma showing a greater susceptibility to softening than G-ænial A’CHORD (p < 0.01). Red wine and coffee immersion resulted in the most significant decreases, indicating the strong impact of polyphenolic and acidic interactions on the composite structure. Conclusions: These findings indicate that prolonged exposure to acidic and staining beverages compromises the mechanical and chemical integrity of resin composites, with Omnichroma being more affected than G-ænial A’CHORD. The findings suggest that the selection of composite materials should consider resistance to staining agents, especially in high-risk oral environments.
