The article presents the profit optimization model for multi-unit construction projects. Such projects constitute a special case of repetitive projects and are common in residential, commercial, and industrial construction projects. Due to the specific character of construction works, schedules of such projects should take into account many different aspects, including durations and costs of construction works, the possibility of selecting alternative execution modes, and specific restrictions (e.g., deadlines for the completion of units imposed by the investor). To solve the NP-hard problem of choosing the order of units’ construction and the best variants of works, the authors used metaheuristic algorithms (simulated annealing and genetic search). The objective function in the presented optimization model was the total profit of the contractor determined on the basis of the mathematical programming model. This model takes into account monthly cash flows subject to direct and indirect costs, penalties for missing deadlines, costs of work group discontinuities, and borrowing losses. The presented problem is very important for maintaining a good financial condition of the enterprise carrying out construction projects. In the article, an experimental analysis of the proposed method of solving the optimization task was carried out in a model that showed high efficiency in obtaining suboptimal solutions. In addition, the operation of the proposed model has been presented on a calculation example. The results obtained in it are fully satisfying.

Production and maintenance tasks apply for access to the same resources. Maintenance-related machine downtime reduces productivity, but the costs incurred due to unplanned machine failures often outweigh the costs associated with predictive maintenance. Costs incurred due to unplanned machine failure include corrective maintenance, reworks, delays in deliveries, breaks in the work of employees and machines. Therefore, scheduling of production and maintenance tasks should be considered jointly. The problem of generating a predictive schedule with given constrains is considered. The objective of the paper is to develop a scheduling method that reflects the operation of the production system and nature of disturbances. The original value of the paper is the development of the method of a basic schedule generation with the application of the Ant Colony Optimisation. A predictive schedule is built by planning the technical inspection of the machine at time of the predicted failure-free time. The numerical simulations are performed for job/flow shop systems.

The work concerns a new problem of minimizing production time of a set of tasks on machines while limiting the availability of machine operators. The problem is taken from practice, from a company producing subassemblies for the automotive industry. A mathematical model of the problem is formulated, and for its solution a neuro-tabu algorithm is proposed, which is a variation of the tabu search algorithm with a neural mechanism replacing the tabu list: short-term memory. The e_ciency of the algorithm constructed in this way is veri_ed on test examples based on real data from the production process.

All of processes that are being performed are connected with the risk. Thus, manufacturing companies need to evaluate and react to these risks, as well as it is possible. One of the method recommended for risk assessment in production companies is Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA), which allows to calculate the risk and prioritize it. However, the FMEA is expert-knowledge based method, which makes it susceptible for the human-factor mistakes. The solution that allow to avoid uncertainty of FMEA is using the fuzzy sets, which is called fuzzy FMEA (fFMEA). The discussed case study is about the company that produces components being used in delivery vans – the production of these components need to end by the overall Final Quality Control (FQC), which means that 100% of components need to be controlled. This FQC process, like every else, is connected with the risk of mistakes. In the paper, the example of performing fuzzy FMEA in industry was described. In involves the analysis of FQC, which is very important, especially in automotive industry, where some of the possible risks or defects can result in danger for humans health or even a life. The aim of the research was to perform the risk evaluation of Final Quality Control (FQC) process, basing on the experts knowledge. The aim was reached by implementing the fuzzy FMEA method.

In the paper, the problem of proper resources management is considered. The problem was analysed and the results of a research on production improvement are presented, concerning specifically utilization rates of machinery and operators, as well as increase of production capacity. These aspects affect the efficiency of the whole production process. Thus, the proper resources management is an additional challenge that needs to be done by every manufacturing company. Examinations were carried-out in a company from the automotive industry, where the utilization of resources of three production lines were considered. In this case, the operators and machines utilization rates were emphasized. The optimization criteria was to increase the utilization rate of resources and reduce the time needed to produce one piece of each analysed products. The methods used to perform the improvement were, among the others, kanban and supermarket systems. The results were verified using computer simulation models designed for both present state and the state after implementing the suggested solutions.

In the paper, the problem of multivariant production management is considered. Individual approach of manufacturing companies to their customers is a very desirable feature, but it is also linked with additional challenges in the field of organisation and management. This paper presents a solution implemented in a company, consisting in calculation of labour input based on simulation of production processes. As a tool for increasing the control of multivariant production, the “labour intensity calculator” is suggested. On the grounds of measurement data from representative processes and the production documentation, using simulations of similar processes, the program estimates manufacturing data for the products with preset configurations of parameters. The suggested solution can make an aid for analysis and control of execution stages of variable projects (production parameters, processes effectiveness), with no necessity to take separate measurements for each considered case, as well as for identification and solution of the appearing problems.

The paper deals with the production downtime problem. Every production process may be affected by the risk of occurrence of the unplanned breaks. It can be caused by various factors, for example lack of components or machines failures. These result not only in the disturbance of production process flow, but also in the waste in the form of downtime. Machines failures can be caused by various factors, which may be difficult or even impossible to predict. Due to their random character, machine failure often results in operators idleness. The aim was to propose the solution of this problem. The proposed improvement was to develop the trainings schedule. These would take a part during the time of repairing the machine, so the waste would be reduced. The tool used to develop optimal training schedule was Tabu Search algorithm, a meta-heuristic method of supporting the decision-making process.

In the paper, the problem of limited flexibility of manufacturing companies is discussed. The problem consists in the necessity to manufacture in big lots with respect to long-lasting retooling of machines. This is illustrated on the example of an automotive enterprise. Implementation process of the SMED method (Single-Minute Exchange of Die) is presented. Potential improvements were verified with use of simulation models of basic and auxiliary processes, prepared in the program iGrafx Process for Six Sigma. Combination of the SMED method with simulation tools made it possible to develop a new, more effective standard of retooling. To estimate yearly profit, calculations were made with use of a spreadsheet.

The paper deals with production scheduling optimization problem in the automotive company. Companies need to search for better solutions of production process scheduling, because of variety of data that need to be analyzed. Until now, company engineers used to schedule production basing on data about customers’ orders and their know-how. The problem was that not all orders have the same priority and need different time of rearming machines, which makes large difference in total production time. In the paper he use of greedy algorithm and Tabu Search algorithm to verify current method of production process scheduling and improve the process has been proposed.

In the paper, optimization of production order execution in a production company is suggested. Until now, decisions regarding prioritization of orders were made by people. Therefore, in this research, comparison of a human-based method and two algorithm methods was performed, in order to find optimal set of production orders. Tabu Search and Greedy algorithms were selected. The aim of the described case study was maximization of profit and production of selected orders. Costs of turning tools were taken under consideration, which made the case more complex. In order to choose the best method of solving this case, real historical data from the company were collected concerning orders from the considered period of time. Moreover, basing on the same data, Greedy and Tabu Search algorithms were prepared. Finally, all the two methods were compared and, in conclusion, Tabu Search solutions acquired highest profit for the whole tested period.

In the paper, rationalization of production order execution in a large manufacturing company is suggested. Till now, the decision-making process was based on the human factor, which resulted in irregular utilization of manufacturing resources. The presented work was aimed at developing new order selection system. That would make it possible to utilize the admitted resources possibly best and thus to meet the deadlines and to adapt to specific production requirements. In the work, the greedy and Tabu Search algorithms were used. As a basis for the research employing, historical data were accepted. Each order were given a priority, production time, profit and penalty for failure. Additionally, the machine failure risk was calculated based on empirical measurements. Simulations of several subsequent working weeks were performed in order to analyse the results obtained thanks to the suggested methods and to compare them with the results presently reached by the company.
