Sustainability certification schemes were introduced to the palm oil industry as a response to address the negative environmental and social impacts associated with the development of this industry. The first certification scheme for palm oil, the Roundtable of Sustainable Palm Oil (RSPO), was established in 2004, followed by other non-governmental initiatives to ensure the sustainable production of palm oil. Indonesia and Malaysia, the two largest palm oil producers in the world, established Indonesia Sustainable Palm Oil (ISPO) and Malaysia Sustainable Palm Oil (MSPO) in 2011 and 2015, respectively. This article aims to analyze the existing literature related to studies on the RSPO, MSPO and ISPO on the basis of articles identified from the SCOPUS (scopus.com) and Web of Science (clavirate.com) databases. Results showed that research on the RSPO has been widely conducted compared with that on MSPO and ISPO. Thus, further research on MSPO and ISPO is needed to understand the dynamics of the implementation of sustainability certification. This article also provides an insight on how sustainable certification in the palm oil industry, particularly MSPO, could contribute to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Mining is an important industry in Indonesia. A nickel mining company has operated for almost 45 years. It has managed corporate social responsibility (CSR) programmes in the neighbouring local community. In addition to the environmental conservation and mitigation, as well as socioeconomic enhancement, the CSR is expected to nurture resilience in the local communities. This study’s goal is to examine the effect of CSR on community resilience (COM-R) in the surrounding community. To analyse the effect of CSR practise on COM-R, Partial Least Squares -Structural Equation Model (PLS-SEM) is used. Results show that CSR has a positive effect on and a significant relationship with COM-R. Results also indicate that CSR’s contribution to COM-R enhances community collective efficacy, community action, and adaptation. Thus, the verified CSR and COM-R model benefits other researchers, companies, and governments to be further explored.

Kata kunci: inisiatif, inovasi, kolaborasi, kualiti keusahawanan, perniagaan, usahawan Quality of entrepreneurship is very essential in ensuring the success of an entrepreneur. Entrepreneurship quality can be measured based on personality and entrepreneurial orientation factors. In addition, entrepreneur development programs implemented by stakeholders can be used as a measure of entrepreneurial quality. However, every entrepreneur is not homogeneous because they have different personality, orientation and environment. The objective of the study is to measure the level of entrepreneurial quality and to identify the relationship between personality, orientation and entrepreneur development program with the entrepreneurial qualities of the small and medium entrepreneurs at the Southeast Johor Development Authority (KEJORA). This study uses a quantitative approach and a survey method is employed. Sample of research are the small and medium entrepreneurs registered with KEJORA. Simple random sampling techniques have been used in sample selection, resulting in 101 small and medium entrepreneurs being selected for this study. The data collection instrument is using questionnaire. Descriptive and inferential statistics (Point-Biserial correlation) are used to answer the objective of the study. The results show that the entrepreneurship quality is moderate among the entreprenuer. The personality factor, orientation and entrepreneur development program are found to have a relationship with the entrepreneurial quality among entrepreneurs in KEJORA. The orientation factor is found to have the most important relationship in determining the entrepreneurial quality level of an entrepreneur. This shows that entrepreneurs operating in KEJORA have real entrepreneurial capabilities. In this regard, stakeholders should improve the development programs to better meet the current needs of the entrepreneurs in KEJORA. The youth with university qualification should also be encouraged to become entrepreneurs so that the entrepreneurial qualities of small and medium entrepreneurs can be improved. Keywords: initiative, innovation, collaboration, entrepreneurship quality, business, entrepreneurs

Purpose The purpose of this paper is to develop and validate a measurement scale for the local community perceptions of community well-being (CWB) based on the presence of nickel mining activities in Indonesia. Design/methodology/approach The measurement uses the conceptual approach of CWB developed in Australia by Walton et al. (2014) and the multidimensional CWB model created by Kim and Lee (2014) in Korea, which applies social, economic, environmental, health, political and infrastructural dimensions. The basis of measurement in this study involves 490 communities living in neighborhoods where the nickel industry is located. Findings A six-dimensional scale of 29 items is proposed to measure CWB perceptions based on the presence of corporate social responsibility (CSR) by the nickel mining and processing industry. Research limitations/implications Despite attempting to sum up the scale by associating it with the distinctive social settings created in this study, this work did not cost much in communicating these scales. The predictive validity of the scales needs to be corroborated by new studies related to CWB construction (measured by CWB scales) with other variables specified in the literature. Practical implications This paper presents complete scale development and can provide policies for governments, particularly in Indonesia. Moreover, the CWB scale might be utilized by different entities (e.g. NGOs, open experts and social group media) to determine the view of genuine clients regarding the association’s CSR execution. Originality/value Although CWB research has been done, the dimension and measurement scale of CWB in the area of recipient of the CSR program from the nickel mining and processing industry has not been studied in Indonesia. In addition, multivariate regression analysis has been frequently used for data analysis; the authors used SEM Smart-PLS as an alternative with paramount predictive accuracy.

Customary land ownership dispute have been clearly attributed to three main factors, namely status, ownership validity and the actual area of land owned. Society’s conflict in relation to the matter can be attributed to the way the information is obtained. Most of the customary land owners obtained their land information orally; through word of mouth information. This matter has finally become a major challenge to the community when it comes to various assumptions and different interpretations related to the status and validity of the customary land owned. Hence, this study aims to reveal the feedback from the customary landowners in relation to the determination of the boundaries of the land among the Bidayuh community in Serian District, Sarawak. Besides that, the study also drew attention to the delimitation of the customary land disputes and its implications among the customary landowners. Information related to the purpose of the study was gathered through the focus group discussions and in-depth interviews with the customary landowners in the study area. The study found that there are several ways of defining the boundaries among the landowners. Accordingly, it can be concluded that land disputes in the study area are driven by issues of status and validity of ownership of land owned by customary land owners. To reduce the conflict, it was suggested that the available land are be measured by a qualified surveyor. Thus, when the land was measured, the landowner will obtain a clearer land title in terms of status and ownership of validity. DOI: 10.5901/mjss.2015.v6n4s3p17

The integrated farmer field school program was implemented to empowered farmers with scientific knowledge, skills, positive attitudes and suitable technology. However, the impact of this program on farmer’s productivity has not been comprehensively investigated. Thus, this research examines the farmers’ participation in the learning process, technology transfer, adoption of new technology and productivity. This study was conducted in Kabupaten Maros, South Sulawesi, and the total sample size was 168 farmers who have participated in this program. A survey research questionnaire was distributed randomly to the participants from four selected villages after the program. Descriptive and multiple regression analyses were carried out on the data. The results showed that the integrated farmer field school program improved the farmers’ knowledge and that extension services were effective in transferring technological expertise. The empirical evidence showed that farmers who participate in the program have significantly increased in paddy productivity. This implies that program is useful to fill gaps in local knowledge with the dissemination and adoption of new agriculture technology. To further improve the farmer field school program, appropriate technological innovations should be identified and issues relating to farm quality and the availability of credits to enable farmers to purchase agricultural equipment and supplies should be addressed. This paper is part of the Financial Well-Being Research among the Public Sector Workers in Malaysia, carried out in 2008. The paper seeks to identify the husbands’ and wives’ financial decision making in a dual-income families. The unit of analysis is the individual, either the husband or the wife. A total of 415 respondents was included in this analysis. Financial decision making is measured using a five scale, i.e. 1=husband; 2=wife; 3=child; 4=together; and 5=individuals. Three major financial decision making patterns obtained in the findings are similar to the findings obtained in the previous studies, namely decision-making by the husband, decision making by the wife, and financial decision making were made by both the husband and the wife. The financial decision making by the husband involved big expenditure with high commitment. Decision making by the wife was more focused on the needs of the family related expenses. While decision making by the husband and wife tends to relate to the children's needs. In addition, the findings also showed that the larger income contribution of the family provides greater opportunities in the decision making. However, decision-making in a dual-income family is also influenced by the religion and culture. DOI: 10.5901/mjss.2015.v6n4s3p70
