Among the knowledge areas in which process mining has had an impact, the audit domain is particularly striking. Traditionally, audits seek evidence in a data sample that allows making inferences about a population. Mistakes are usually committed when generalizing the results and anomalies; therefore, they appear in unprocessed sets; however, there are some efforts to address these limitations using process-mining-based approaches for fraud detection. To the best of our knowledge, no fraud audit method exists that combines process mining techniques and visual analytics to identify relevant patterns. This paper presents a fraud audit approach based on the combination of process mining techniques and visual analytics. The main advantages are: (i) a method is included that guides the use of the visual capabilities of process mining to detect fraud data patterns during an audit; (ii) the approach can be generalized to any business domain; (iii) well-known process mining techniques are used (dotted chart, trace alignment, fuzzy miner…). The techniques were selected by a group of experts and were extended to enable filtering for contextual analysis, to handle levels of process abstraction, and to facilitate implementation in the area of fraud audits. Based on the proposed approach, we developed a software solution that is currently being used in the financial sector as well as in the telecommunications and hospitality sectors. Finally, for demonstration purposes, we present a real hotel management use case in which we detected suspected fraud behaviors, thus validating the effectiveness of the approach.

The advent of digital technologies has profoundly transformed cultural and heritage sectors, providing new avenues for broader access and interactions with digital collections. This shift has enabled Online Cultural Heritage (OCH) to evolve into an extensive ecosystem. Given the complexity that emerges from these networks and stakeholders, it is crucial to develop a clearer understanding of the extensive terminology used in the sector and establish pathways to deconstruct this complexity. Therefore, this article's aim is threefold: 1) it examines how OCH ecosystems foster the ongoing reinterpretation and recontextualisation of cultural heritage collections through technologic innovations and the Web. In doing so, it highlights the relevance of policy development and the establishment of ethical frameworks that address both human and technical complexities of Cultural Heritage (CH) knowledge; 2) using the Open Archival Information System (OAIS) as a framework and its terminology, the article maps the workflows and socio-technical actors of the OCH ecosystem; and 3) the article applies Callon’s Process of Translation, a methodology for understanding how socio-technical networks evolve and use it to critically deconstruct digital infrastructures in OCH. This methodology enables the contextualisation and reinterpretation of cultural narratives across digital platforms, both online and offline, underscoring the dynamic interplay between technology, human agency, and cultural context. We explore how OCH ecosystems and other infrastructural ecosystems aid in preserving and facilitating engagement with open knowledge and research, and function as complex networks of cultural institutions interconnected through knowledge infrastructures. Whilst the paper places the primary approach within UK infrastructures, it provides alternative perspectives from the Global South, particularly Latin America, to contrast and further illustrate a reflection on the current and future challenges behind a sustainable OCH ecosystem, its implications for further networks, and its potential as a model beyond the CH sector. Furthermore, this framework can become paramount to identifying obstacles and opportunities for digital infrastructures, establishing a nuanced understanding of OCH as a core infrastructural element in the generation of knowledge from digital collections or digital infrastructures around the world. Finally, we provide a glossary of terms to establish a common ground between the wide range of parties involved in OCH. CCS CONCEPTS • Digital libraries and archives • Information Integration • Cultural characteristics.

Cultural Heritage institutions have been exploring new ways of making available their catalogues in digital format. Recently, new approaches have emerged as methods to reuse and make available the contents for computational purposes. This work introduces a methodology to transform digital collections into Linked Open Data following best practices. The framework has been applied to Indigenous and Spanish colonial archives based on the collection Relaciones Geográficas of Mexico and Guatemala provided by the LLILAS Benson Latin American Studies and Collections. The results of this work are publicly available. This work aims at encouraging Cultural Heritage institutions to publish and reuse their digital collections using advanced methods and techniques.

Disinformation does not always take the form of a fake news item, it also appears in much less evident formats which are subtly filtered into public opinion, thus making its detection more difficult. A method is proposed in this paper to address the study of “widespread” disinformation by combining social science methods with artificial intelligence and text mining. The case study chosen was the expression “right of self-determination” as a generator of disinformation within the context of the Catalan independence process. The main work hypothesis was that the (intentional or unintentional) confusion around the meaning and scope of this right has become widely extended within the population, generating negative emotions which favour social polarisation. The method utilised had three stages: (1) Description of the disinformation elements surrounding the term with the help of experts; (2) Detection of these elements within a corpus of tweets; (3) Identification of the emotions expressed in the corpus. The results show that the disinformation described by experts clearly dominates the conversation about “self-determination” on Twitter and is associated with a highly negative emotional load in which contempt, hatred, and frustration prevail.
