It was aimed to investigate the active ingredients limonin, quercetin and kaempferol in propolis against SARS-CoV-2 main protease(MPro) using in silico methods. Absorption, distribution, metabolism, excretion, and toxicity (ADMET) screening of ligands assists US to state their absorption properties, toxicity, and drug-likeness. Ligand molecules obtained from PubChem in smiles format were loaded on SWISSADME and PROTOX-II webservers for ADMET screening. The three compounds in propolis were obtained from the PubChem database. Compounds were located at the active site of the SARS-CoV-2 MPro receptor with PDB ID:6LU7. Molecular docking work was done with Autodock program. Molecular docking results were found as -8.7 kcal/mol in limonin, -7.5 kcal/mol in quercetin and -7.7 kcal/mol in kaempferol. In silico ADMET estimation showed they have a potential for antiviral therapy. In conclusion, we thought that propolis active components limonin, quercetin and kaempferol have the potential to be a SARS CoV-2 MPro inhibitor.
This study aimed to determine the antibacterial and antioxidant activities of the newly synthesized Schiff base and to support the laboratory results with molecular modeling studies. Antibacterial activity of schiff bases was demonstrated using Gram (-) Pseudomonas aeruginosa and Acinetobacter baumannii bacterial strains. Minimum Inhibition Concentration (MIC) values were determined to evaluate their antimicrobial activity against Gram-negative P. aeruginosa and A.baumanni bacterial strains. In antioxidant experiments, the responses to DPPH and ABTS radicals were calculated at certain concentration ranges and graphs were drawn. For the molecular modeling study, Autodock Vina and Discovery Studio 2020 package programs were used. The observed bacterial inhibition activity was variable depending on the clinical isolate and the concentration of the tested samples. The highest inhibition activity was achieved at concentration of 75 μl -100 μl. N,N'-(ethane-1,2-diyl)bis(1-(9H-fluoren-2-yl)methanimine) samples. Molecular docking results show that N,N'-(ethane-1,2-diyl)bis(1(9H-fluoren-2-yl) methanimine) binds strongly to the 4ZIY and 4ZHU structures. It has been proven by molecular docking study that the synthesized Schiff base ligand has antibiotic resistance properties. N, N'-(ethane-1,2-diyl)bis(1-(9Hfluoren-2-yl) methanimine) synthesis compound showed moderate activity against A. baumannii and P. aeruginosa strains. It is known that schiff bases have strong biological activities and show antibacterial activity. In this study, it can be said that the synthesis schiff base showed antibacterial and antioxidant activity. In addition, our results were supported by molecular modeling. Our findings can be taken to a higher level with in vivo and in vitro studies.

Objective of this study to measure the natural antioxidant enzyme capacity of the coban cantasi (Capsella bursa-postaris) and coban cokerten (Tribulus terrestris) plants grown naturally within the borders of Kahramanmaras province. C. pastoris and T. terrestris plants belonging to Bertiz region of Kahramanmaras province were used in the scope of the research. Plant leaves were extracted in a solvent prepared with ethanol, and then antioxidant enzyme activities catalase (CAT), superoxide dismutase (SOD) and oxidative stress indicator malondialdehyde (MDA) levels were determined by spectrophotometric methods. The highest SOD and CAT enzyme activities of the two plants were measured in T. terrestris plant, while these values were found to be low in C. pastoris plant (p < 0.05). While MDA levels were high in C. pastoris, the lowest MDA level was found in T. terrestris (p < 0.05). It was concluded that leaf tissues of C. pastoris and T. terrestris plants have antioxidant enzyme activity. In the analysis, it was seen that T. terrestris plant sustained more antioxidant enzyme activity compared to C. pastoris plant.
