As a general and rigid mathematical tool, wavelet theory has found many applications and is constantly developing. This article reviews the development history of wavelet theory, from the construction method to the discussion of wavelet properties. Then it focuses on the design and expansion of wavelet transform. The main models and algorithms of wavelet transform are discussed. The construction of rational wavelet transform (RWT) is provided by examples emphasizing the advantages of RWT over traditional wavelet transform through a review of the literature. The combination of wavelet theory and neural networks is one of the key points of the review. The review covers the evolution of Wavelet Neural Network (WNN), the system architecture and algorithm implementation. The review of the literature indicates the advantages and a clear trend of fast development in WNN that can be combined with existing neural network algorithms. This article also introduces the categories of wavelet-based applications. The advantages of wavelet analysis are summarized in terms of application scenarios with a comparison of results. Through the review, new research challenges and gaps have been clarified, which will serve as a guide for potential wavelet-based applications and new system designs.

Driven by deep learning techniques, perception technology in autonomous driving has developed rapidly in recent years, enabling vehicles to accurately detect and interpret surrounding environment for safe and efficient navigation. To achieve accurate and robust perception capabilities, autonomous vehicles are often equipped with multiple sensors, making sensor fusion a crucial part of the perception system. Among these fused sensors, radars and cameras enable a complementary and cost-effective perception of the surrounding environment regardless of lighting and weather conditions. This review aims to provide a comprehensive guideline for radar-camera fusion, particularly concentrating on perception tasks related to object detection and semantic segmentation. Based on the principles of the radar and camera sensors, we delve into the data processing process and representations, followed by an in-depth analysis and summary of radar-camera fusion datasets. In the review of methodologies in radar-camera fusion, we address interrogative questions, including “why to fuse”, “what to fuse”, “where to fuse”, “when to fuse”, and “how to fuse”, subsequently discussing various challenges and potential research directions within this domain. To ease the retrieval and comparison of datasets and fusion methods, we also provide an interactive website: https://radar-camera-fusion.github.io .

Autonomous driving on water surfaces plays an essential role in executing hazardous and time-consuming missions, such as maritime surveillance, survivor rescue, environmental monitoring, hydrography mapping and waste cleaning. This work presents WaterScenes, the first multi-task 4D radar-camera fusion dataset for autonomous driving on water surfaces. Equipped with a 4D radar and a monocular camera, our Unmanned Surface Vehicle (USV) proffers all-weather solutions for discerning object-related information, including color, shape, texture, range, velocity, azimuth, and elevation. Focusing on typical static and dynamic objects on water surfaces, we label the camera images and radar point clouds at pixel-level and point-level, respectively. In addition to basic perception tasks, such as object detection, instance segmentation and semantic segmentation, we also provide annotations for free-space segmentation and waterline segmentation. Leveraging the multi-task and multi-modal data, we conduct benchmark experiments on the uni-modality of radar and camera, as well as the fused modalities. Experimental results demonstrate that 4D radar-camera fusion can considerably improve the accuracy and robustness of perception on water surfaces, especially in adverse lighting and weather conditions. WaterScenes dataset is public on https://waterscenes.github.io.

Solar forecasting is one of the most promising approaches to address the intermit PV power generation by providing predictions before upcoming ramp events. In this paper, a novel multi-step forecasting (MSF) scheme is proposed for PV power ramp-rate control (PRRC). This method utilizes an ensemble of deep ConvNets without additional time-series models and exogenous variables, thus more suitable for industrial applications. The MSF strategy can make multiple predictions in comparison with a single forecasting point produced by a conventional method while maintaining the same high temporal resolution. Besides, stacked sky images that integrate temporal-spatial (ST) information of cloud motions are used to further improve the forecasting performance. The results demonstrate a favorable forecasting accuracy in comparison to the existing forecasting models with the highest skill score of 17.7%. In the PRRC application, the MSF-based PRRC can detect more ramp-rates violations with a higher control rate of 98.9% compared with the conventional forecasting based control. Thus, the PV generation can be effectively smoothed with less energy curtailment on both clear and cloudy days using the proposed approach.

This paper proposes an implantable antenna with ultra-wide bandwidth operating in the Medical Device Radio communications Service band (MedRadio) (401-406 MHz) for wireless capsule endoscopy (WCE). Simulation and experimental results show the proposed antenna has good performance in terms of the return loss and hence the bandwidth from 284 MHz to 825 MHz. The the maximum realized gain of this antenna is -31.5 dBi at 403 MHz. The maximum simulated input power should be <1.7 mW to satisfy SAR regulations in the IEEE standard. The tolerance of the antenna owing to bendability and different WCE shell thicknesses is investigated. These indicate that the proposed antenna is a good candidate for WCE.
