This study was conducted to determine the overwintering insect biodiversity in pistachio orchards of the Middle Euphrates Valley, Turkey during 2017 and 2018 by artificial overwintering shelters. Artificial overwintering shelters were established in five pistachio orchards in Şehirbağı, Karabaş, Meyanca, Baraj and Ekenek locations. Ten trees were selected within each orchard and five of these were covered with a burlap sack and the rest were covered with corrugated cardboard through September and January. Twenty insect species belonging to15 families and 4 orders were recorded from the studied orchards. These recorded species were; Oenopia conglobata (Linnaeus, 1758) (Coleoptera: Coccinellidae), Hippodamia variegata (Goeze, 1777) (Coleoptera: Coccinellidae), Coccinella septempunctata (Linnaeus,1758) (Coleoptera: Coccinellidae), Scymnus rubromaculatus (Goeze, 1777), Loraphodius suarius (Falderman, 1835) (Coleoptera: Aphodiidae), Drasterius bimaculatus (Rossi, 1790) (Coleoptera: Elateridae), Hermaeophaga (=Orthocrepis) ruficollis (Lucas, 1849) (Coleoptera: Chrysomelidae), Bangasternus orientalis (Capiomont, 1873) (Coleoptera: Curculionidae), Aulacobaris coerulescens (Scopoli, 1763) (Coleoptera: Curculionidae), Capnodis carbonaria (Klug, 1829) (Coleoptera: Buprestidae), Tentyria euphratica (Girard 1966) (Coleoptera: Tenebrionidae), Malachius rubidus (Erichson, 1840) (Coleoptera: Malachiidae), Piezodorus lituratus (Fabricius, 1794) (Hemiptera: Pentatomidae), Liorhyssus hyalinus (Fabricius, 1794) (Hemiptera: Rhopalidae), Dolycoris baccarum (Linnaeus, 1758) (Heteroptera,: Pentatomidae), Eurygaster integriceps (Puton, 1881) (Hemiptera: Scutelleridae), Centrocoris volxemi (Puton, 1878), (Hemiptera: Coreidae), Geocoris luridus (Fieber, 1844) (Heteroptera: Lygaeidae), Chrysoperla carnea (Stephens, 1836) (Neuroptera: Chrysopidae) and Schistocerca gregaria (Forskol, 1775) (Orthoptera: Acrididae). The results revealed that burlap sack and corrugated cardboard artificial winter shelters can be used to monitor harmful and beneficial insect fauna overwintering in fruit orchards. The results provide empirical information on the existence of overwintering insect species in pistachio orchards. Thus, integrated pest management strategies should be developed for the pistachio orchards in the study area based on these results.

This study aimed to evaluate the antibacterial properties and phytochemical composition of pyrolysis liquids obtained from the biowaste of mealworm Tenebrio molitor L. (Coleoptera: Tenebrionidae) adults and larvae. Biowaste was subjected to pyrolysis at 295?5 ?C for 7 h under a nitrogen atmosphere using a laboratory-scale system equipped with a dual condensation unit to separate light and heavy fractions. The biowaste pyrolysis liquid (BPL) were purified and analyzed for their chemical content using LC-MS/MS, which identified seven key phenolic compounds, with cinnamic acid being the most abundant (358.05 ?g/g), followed by salicylic acid, 4-hydroxybenzoic acid, and naringenin. Notably, most flavonoid derivatives were either absent or below detection limits, indicating the extract?s phenolic acid-dominated profile. The antibacterial activity of BPL was assessed against two gram-negative (E. coli ATCC-25922, P. aeruginosa ATCC-27853) and two gram-positive (E. faecalis ATCC-23212, S. aureus ATCC-25923) bacterial strains using the agar well diffusion method. The results demonstrated significant antibacterial effects, particularly against S. aureus (29.5?0.3 mm) and P. aeruginosa (23.5?0.2 mm), followed by E. coli (21.7?0.1 mm). These findings highlight the potential of insect-derived pyrolysis liquids as natural antibacterial agents, driven largely by their phenolic acid content. This study underscores the value of biowaste valorization for developing bioactive compounds with potential applications in antimicrobial therapies.

In agricultural activities, there is an increasing need for organic products as alternatives to chemical pesticides. Wood vinegar (WV, pyrolysis liquid) from these alternative potential products is produced as a result of the carbonization process in which it is obtained from organic wastes together with useful products such as energy and biochar. This study was carried out to determine the insecticidal effects of WVs produced from broiler chicken litter and nutshells on the harmful almond leaf wasp Cimbex quadrimaculata Müller, 1766 (Hymenoptera: Cimbicidae). The study was carried out in an almond orchard in Diyarbakır (Eğil district) and Elazığ (Keban district) in the 2019-2021 production seasons. WV mixed solutions (1%, 3%, 5%, 7%, 10% and 25%) were applied with a back sprayer at the beginning and end of leafing in contaminated almond orchards. The effects of the applications were determined by impact and visual control methods on the 1st, 7th, 14th and 21st. In the analysis of the obtained data, first of all, normality test was performed. In the analysis of the obtained data, the Kruskal-Wallis test was applied. In conclusion; It has been determined that WV-added solutions have a insecticidal effect against harmful almond leaf bees, and the highest decrease in the number of larvae occurs at doses of 10% to 25%. It is important to test these vinegars in different locations with more detailed studies and to conduct detailed bioecological studies depending on the climatic factors and population ecology of the pest in terms of alternative control of the pest. The data of this study contain basic data for almond integrated pest management (IPM) studies.

Almond moth (Eurytoma amygdali Enderlein) is one of the most important pests of almond. Pest ratio can be as high as 95% in some areas in case it is not fought against. The study was conducted to determine the preferences of Almond moth for some almond varieties (Ferragnes, Ferraduel, Nonpareil, Drake, Cristomorto and Garrigues) in the years 2017 and 2018. Furthermore, times of emerging of the pest in Malatya Province and the number of individuals emerging from damages fruits based on years were determined. Cage observations were carried out and fruits were counted under field conditions and were related to meteorological data. It was fund in the study that the smallest contamination rate of E. amygdali was in Ferragnes variety (81%) followed by Cristomorto variety (%85). The highest contamination rate, however, was found in Nonpareil variety (97%). While the rate of emerging of the pests as adults in year one was 89.3%, rate of individuals passing down to the next generation was 10.6%. It was found in the study that the time of emergence as adults of Almond moth in Malatya was the end of April when the maximum air temperature was 25oC and the daily mean temperature is higher than 15oC, and when the temperatures are routinely around these levels.

This study was conducted in gardens contaminated with pistachio psylla in Siirt Province between 2007 and 2010. It has been found that pistachio psylla forms the highest populations in the pistachio gardens in the Central District of Siirt Province, and in particular, causes important damages in young leaves in mid-June and in the maturing period of fruits in mid- and late-August. Efficiency in certain counts of yellow sticky trap coded 1016 B, of which efficiency and attraction power are considered significant, was observed in the study. It was concluded in the study that these traps are important for reduction of the population of the pest in cases where the population is small. It was found that traps would provide positive contribution if combined with other methods of fight and used in 4 traps for each tree and 7-day periods of hanging.
