This review embarks on a comprehensive journey, exploring the application of lignocellulosic biomass materials as highly effective adsorbents for the removal of textile dyes (cationic and anionic dyes) from wastewater. A literature review and analysis were conducted to identify existing gaps in previous research on the use of lignocellulosic biomass for dye removal. This study investigates the factors and challenges associated with dye removal methods and signifies their uses. The study delves into the pivotal role of several parameters influencing adsorption, such as contact time, pH, concentration, and temperature. It then critically examines the adsorption isotherms, unveiling the equilibrium relationship between adsorbent and dye and shedding light on the mechanisms of their interaction. The adsorption process kinetics are thoroughly investigated, and a detailed examination of the adsorbed rate of dye molecules onto lignocellulosic biomass materials is carried out. This includes a lively discussion of the pseudo-first, pseudo-second, and intra-particle diffusion models. The thermodynamic aspects of the adsorption process are also addressed, elucidating the feasibility and spontaneity of the removal process under various temperature conditions. The paper then dives into desorption studies, providing insights into the regeneration potential of lignocellulosic biomass materials for sustainable reusability. The environmental impact and cost-effectiveness of employing lignocellulosic biomass materials in textiles including Congo Red, Reactive Black 5, Direct Yellow 12, Crystal Violet, Malachite Green, Acid Yellow 99, and others dyes from wastewater treatment are discussed, emphasizing the significance of eco-friendly solutions. In summary, this review brings together a wealth of diverse studies and findings to present a comprehensive overview of lignocellulosic biomass materials as adsorbents for textile cationic and anionic dye removal, encompassing various aspects from influential parameters to kinetics, adsorption isotherms, desorption, and thermodynamics studies. Its scope and other considerations are also discussed along with its benefits. The collective knowledge synthesized in this paper is intended to contribute to the advancement of sustainable and efficient water treatment technologies in the textile industry.

The remarkable flexibility and heightened sensitivity of flexible sensors have drawn significant attention, setting them apart from traditional sensor technology. Within this domain, hydrogels—3D crosslinked networks of hydrophilic polymers—emerge as a leading material for the new generation of flexible sensors, thanks to their unique material properties. These include structural versatility, which imparts traits like adhesiveness and self-healing capabilities. Traditional templating-based methods fall short of tailor-made applications in crafting flexible sensors. In contrast, 3D printing technology stands out with its superior fabrication precision, cost-effectiveness, and satisfactory production efficiency, making it a more suitable approach than templating-based strategies. This review spotlights the latest hydrogel-based flexible sensors developed through 3D printing. It begins by categorizing hydrogels and outlining various 3D-printing techniques. It then focuses on a range of flexible sensors—including those for strain, pressure, pH, temperature, and biosensors—detailing their fabrication methods and applications. Furthermore, it explores the sensing mechanisms and concludes with an analysis of existing challenges and prospects for future research breakthroughs in this field.

The rapid advancement of terahertz (THz) communication systems has positioned this technology as a key enabler for next-generation telecommunication networks, including 6G, secure communications, and hybrid wireless-optical systems. This review comprehensively analyzes THz communication, emphasizing its integration with free-space optical (FSO) systems to overcome conventional bandwidth limitations. While THz-FSO technology promises ultra-high data rates, it is significantly affected by atmospheric absorption, particularly absorption beyond 500 GHz, where the attenuation exceeds 100 dB/km, which severely limits its transmission range. However, the presence of a lower-loss transmission window at 680 GHz provides an opportunity for optimized THz-FSO communication. This paper explores recent developments in high-power THz sources, such as quantum cascade lasers, photonic mixers, and free-electron lasers, which facilitate the attainment of ultra-high data rates. Additionally, adaptive optics, machine learning-based beam alignment, and low-loss materials are examined as potential solutions to mitigating signal degradation due to atmospheric absorption. The integration of THz-FSO systems with optical and radio frequency (RF) technologies is assessed within the framework of software-defined networking (SDN) and multi-band adaptive communication, enhancing their reliability and range. Furthermore, this review discusses emerging applications such as self-driving systems in 6G networks, ultra-low latency communication, holographic telepresence, and inter-satellite links. Future research directions include the use of artificial intelligence for network optimization, creating energy-efficient system designs, and quantum encryption to obtain secure THz communications. Despite the severe constraints imposed by atmospheric attenuation, the technology’s power efficiency, and the materials that are used, THz-FSO technology is promising for the field of ultra-fast and secure next-generation networks. Addressing these limitations through hybrid optical-THz architectures, AI-driven adaptation, and advanced waveguides will be critical for the full realization of THz-FSO communication in modern telecommunication infrastructures.
