Micro-electromechanical system (MEMS) skin friction sensors are considered to be promising sensors in hypersonic wind tunnel experiments owing to their miniature size, high sensitivity, and stability. Aiming at the problem of short test duration (a few milliseconds) and heavy load in a shock wind tunnel, the fast readout circuit and the sensor head structures of a MEMS skin friction sensor are presented and optimized in this work. The sensor was fabricated using various micro-mechanical processes and micro-assembly technology based on visual alignment. Meanwhile, the sensor head structure was integrated with the fast readout circuit and tested by using a centrifugal force equivalent method. The calibration results show that this sensor provides good linearity, sensitivity, and stability. The measurement ranges are 0–2000 Pa with good performance. The resolution is better than 10 Pa at 3000 Hz detection frequency of the readout circuit for the sensor in ranges from 0 to 1000 Pa. In addition, the repeatability and linearity of static calibration for sensors are better than 1%.
The skin friction of a hypersonic vehicle surface can account for up to 50% of the total resistance, directly affecting the vehicle’s effective range and load. A wind tunnel experiment is an important and effective method to optimize the aerodynamic shape of aircraft, and Micro-Electromechanical System (MEMS) skin friction sensors are considered the promising sensors in hypersonic wind tunnel experiments, owing to their miniature size, high sensitivity, and stability. However, the sensitive structure including structural appearance, a gap with the package shell, and flatness of the sensor will change the measured flow field and cause the accurate measurement of friction resistance. Aiming at the influence of sensor-sensitive structure on wall-flow characteristics and friction measurement accuracy, the two-dimensional and three-dimensional numerical models of the sensor in the hypersonic flow field based on Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) are presented respectively in this work. The model of the sensor is verified by using the Blathius solution of two-dimensional laminar flow on a flat plate. The results show that the sensor model is in good agreement with the Blathius solution, and the error is less than 0.4%. Then, the influence rules of the sensitive structure of the sensor on friction measurement accuracy under turbulent flow and laminar flow conditions are systematically analyzed using 3D numerical models of the sensor, respectively. Finally, the sensor-sensitive unit structure’s design criterion is obtained to improve skin friction’s measurement accuracy.
Conductive graphene polymer composites are considered promising functional materials in gas detection, strain detection, metal corrosion prevention, and electromagnetic wave absorption, owing to their good flexibility, lightweight, and adjustable conductivity. The internal defects or external damages of composite films will seriously affect the electrical and functional properties of the materials. Based on the conductive network inside the conductive polymer film and the self-inductance to ultrasonic wave, the defect self-monitoring system of the conductive polymer film is designed and optimized in this work. The self-damage detection system is composed of an electrode array, excitation source, resistance signal acquisition and processing circuit, and damage display. Aiming at different scenarios, the improved interdigital structure transducer for sensors and damage detection device for coating film with a large area are presented and optimized respectively. Meanwhile, the damage location algorithm based on time difference measurement and kernel density estimation algorithm is also optimized. The multiple damage detection is realized by a device with a 4 × 8 electrode array, and the relative error of damage area with 1 mm × 1 mm is less than 5%, and the lower detection limits of damage size are 0.3 mm × 0.3 mm.
A wind tunnel experiment is an important way and effective method to research the generation mechanism of aerodynamic noise and verify aerodynamic noise reduction technology. Acoustic measurement is an important part of wind tunnel experiments, and the microphone is the core device in an aerodynamic acoustic measurement system. Aiming at the problem of low sound pressure (several Pa) and the small measuring surface of an experimental model in a wind tunnel experiment, a microphone sensor head with high sensitivity and small volume, based on film bulk acoustic resonator (FBAR), is presented and optimized in this work. The FBARs used as a transducer are located at the edge of a diaphragm for sound pressure level detection. A multi-scale and multi-physical field coupling analysis model of the microphone is established. To improve the performance of the microphone, the structural design parameters of the FBAR and the diaphragm are optimized by simulation. The research results show that the microphone has a small size, good sensitivity, and linearity. The sensor head size is less than 1 mm × 1 mm, the sensitivity is about 400 Hz/Pa when the sensor worked at the first-order resonance frequency, and the linearity is better than 1%.

Conventional RF MEMS switches rely on metal-to-dielectric or metal-to-metal contacts. Some problems in the "solid-solid" contact, such as contact degradation, signal bounce and poor reliability, can be solved by using "liquid-solid" contact. The RF MEMS switch based on liquid metal is characterized by small contact resistance, no moving parts, high reliability and long life. Using electrowetting-on-dielectric (EWOD) way to control the movement of liquid metal in the RF MEMS switch, to achieve the "on" and "off" of the switch. In this paper, the electrical characteristics and RF characteristics of RF MEMS switches are simulated by fluid mechanics software FLUENT and electromagnetic simulation software HFSS. The effects of driving voltage, switching time, dielectric layer, hydrophobic layer material and thickness, switching channel height on the RF characteristics are studied. The results show that to increase the external voltage to the threshold voltage of 58V, the liquid metal began to move, and the switching time from "off" state to "on" state is 16ms. In the 0~20GHz frequency range, the switch insertion loss is less than 0.28dB, isolation is better than 23.32dB.
To improve the accuracy of the wind tunnel test, relying on the high-pressure gas source of the China Aerodynamic Research and Development Center, a secondary flow standard facility based on a sonic nozzle array was developed, with a pressure range of (1~6) MPa and a flow range of (0.12~5.55) kg/s. Currently, most facilities use the average temperature measured by the temperature array to represent the upstream temperature of the sonic nozzle array. However, the small flow calibration test results showed that the maximum temperature difference upstream of the standard sonic nozzle array was 1.97 K, and the temperature field upstream of the sonic nozzle array showed non-uniformity, so the above method cannot accurately obtain the upstream temperature. To solve this problem, each nozzle used in the standard sonic nozzle array was accurately measured by temperature sensors. The uncertainty of the facility and the discharge coefficient of the calibrated nozzle between the two methods were compared. The results showed that compared with the discharge coefficient obtained using the temperature sensor array of 0.9902, the accurate measurement of 0.9904 was closer to the National Institute of Metrology, China (NIM) traceable result of 0.9907, and the relative uncertainty of the facility was reduced from 0.124% (k = 2) to 0.120% (k = 2).
