Global Positioning System (GPS) is a well known navigation system for outdoor applications; however this technology does not work in indoor environments. In order to overcome this limitation, Bluetooth technology can be employed. Furthermore, Bluetooth technology provides an accurate and low cost solution for short range wireless communication. Most of the digital devices provide the Bluetooth functionality which also makes it a good candidate for indoor positioning. In this paper, we use Bluetooth devices for indoor positioning and use signal based parameters such as received power level for position estimation. The accuracy of indoor positioning system is greatly dependant on the parameters selected for estimation and the measurements obtained from the environment. However, the measurements are corrupted by various environmental conditions such as temperature, reflection, presence of obstacles, human body and other communication signals. Therefore, we need to filter the measurements. This paper presents an experimental relationship between the received power level and distance using the standard radio propagation model. Based on the experiments performed, the average error is minimized from 5.87 meters to 2.67 meters using gradient filter. The use of gradient filter improves the accuracy by 45 % which provides a basis for integrating fingerprinting approaches with lateration.

Although copy-move forgery is one of the most common fabrication techniques, blind detection of such tampering in digital audio is mostly unexplored. Unlike active techniques, blind forgery detection is challenging, because it does not embed a watermark or signature in an audio that is unknown in most of the real-life scenarios. Therefore, forgery localization becomes more challenging, especially when using blind methods. In this paper, we propose a novel method for blind detection and localization of copy-move forgery. One of the most crucial steps in the proposed method is a voice activity detection (VAD) module for investigating audio recordings to detect and localize the forgery. The VAD module is equally vital for the development of the copy-move forgery database, wherein audio samples are generated by using the recordings of various types of microphones. We employ a chaotic theory to copy and move the text in generated forged recordings to ensure forgery localization at any place in a recording. The VAD module is responsible for the extraction of words in a forged audio, and these words are analyzed by applying a 1-D local binary pattern operator. This operator provides the patterns of extracted words in the form of histograms. The forged parts (copy and move text) have similar histograms. An accuracy of 96.59% is achieved, and the proposed method is deemed robust against noise.

The unabated flurry of research activities dedicated to gaining business insights from a flood of data generated by heterogeneous mobile sources, such as the Internet of Vehicles, sensors, and smartphones, has instigated a new research domain called MBD. At the core of this mobile environment, scalability, cost effectiveness, reliability, analytics, and security are important concerns. Coping with these issues in handling MBD requires understanding the challenges associated with it. Mobile computing and big data have been widely studied separately; however, very few studies have explored the convergence of these two domains. In this article, we critically review recent research efforts directed at MBD. We also classify the MBD by devising a thematic taxonomy that is based on source, analytics, applications, characteristics, security, and data type. Furthermore, we discuss the opportunities offered by MBD in terms of analytics. Some potential uses of MBD in healthcare, telecommunication, digital advertising, and transportation are also presented. Several open research challenges are discussed as future research directions.

The revolution of computer network technologies and telecommunication technologies increases the number of Internet users enormously around the world. Thus, many companies nowadays produce various devices having network chips, each device becomes part of the Internet of Things and can run on the Internet to achieve various services for its users. This led to the increase in security threats and attacks on these devices. Due to the increased number of devices connected to the Internet, the attackers have more opportunities to perform their attacks in such an environment. Therefore, security has become a big challenge more than before. In addition, confidentiality, integrity, and availability are required components to assure the security of Internet of Things. In this article, an adaptive intrusion detection and prevention system is proposed for Internet of Things (IDPIoT) to enhance security along with the growth of the devices connected to the Internet. The proposed IDPIoT enhances the security including host-based and network-based functionality by examining the existing intrusion detection systems. Once the proposed IDPIoT receives the packet, it examines the behavior, the packet is suspected, and it blocks or drops the packet. The main goal is accomplished by implementing one essential part of security, which is intrusion detection and prevention system.

In order to increase the reliability, accuracy, and efficiency in the eHealth, Internet of Medical Things is playing a vital role. Current development in telemedicine and the Internet of Things have delivered efficient and low-cost medical devices. The Internet of Medical Things architectures being developed do not completely recognize the potential of Internet of Things. The Internet of Medical Things sensor devices have limited computation power; in case if a patient is using implanted medical devices, it is not easy to recharge or replace the devices immediately. Biosensors are small devices with limited energy if these devices do not wisely utilize the energy may drain sharply and devices become inactive. The current medical solutions place the bulk of data on cloud-based systems that ultimately creates a bottleneck. In this article, an energy-efficient fog-to-cloud Internet of Medical Things architecture is proposed to optimize energy consumption. In the proposed architecture, Bluetooth enabled biosensors are used, because Bluetooth technology is an energy efficient and also helps to enable the sleep and awake modes. The proposed fog-to-cloud Internet of Medical Things works in three different modes periodic, sleep–awake, and continue to optimize the energy consumption. The proposed technique enabled the sensing modes that gathers the patients’ data efficiently based on their health conditions. The sensed data are transmitted to the relevant fog and cloud devices for further processing. The performance of fog-to-cloud Internet of Medical Things is evaluated through simulation; the results are compared with the results of existing techniques in terms of an end-to-end delay, throughput, and energy consumption. It is analyzed that the proposed technique reduces the energy consumption between 30% and 40%.

Energy efficiency is a growing concern in every aspect of the technology. Apart from maintaining profitability, energy efficiency means a decrease in the overall environmental effects, which is a serious concern in today's world. Using a femtocell in Internet of Things (IoT) can boost energy efficiency. To illustrate, femtocells can be used in smart homes, which is a subpart of the smart grid, as a communication mechanism in order to manage energy efficiency. Moreover, femtocells can be used in many IoT applications in order to provide communication. However, it is important to evaluate the energy efficiency of femtocells. This paper investigates recent advances and challenges in the energy efficiency of the femtocell in IoT. First, we introduce the idea of femtocells in the context of IoT and their role in IoT applications. Next, we describe prominent performance metrics in order to understand how the energy efficiency is evaluated. Then, we elucidate how energy can be modeled in terms of femtocell and provide some models from the literature. Since femtocells are used in heterogeneous networks to manage energy efficiency, we also express some energy efficiency schemes for deployment. The factors that affect the energy usage of a femtocell base station are discussed and then the power consumption of user equipment under femtocell coverage is mentioned. Finally, we highlight prominent open research issues and challenges.
