In this study, the rheology, fluidity, stability, and time-varying properties of cement paste with different substitute contents of silica fume (SF) were investigated. The result showed that the effects of SF on macro-fluidity and micro-rheological properties were different under different water–cement ratios. The addition of SF increased the yield stress and plastic viscosity in the range of 2.61–18.44% and 6.66–24.66%, respectively, and reduced the flow expansion in the range of 4.15–18.91%. The effect of SF on cement paste gradually lost its regularity as the w/c ratio increased. The SF can effectively improve the stability of cement paste, and the reduction range of bleeding rate was 0.25–4.3% under different water–cement ratios. The mathematical models of rheological parameters, flow expansion, and time followed the following equations: τ(t) = τ0 + k0t, η(t) = η0eat, and L(t) = L0 − k1t, L(t) = L0 − k1t − a1t2. The SF slowly increased the rheological parameters in the initial time period and reduced the degree of fluidity attenuation, but the effect was significantly enhanced after entering the accelerated hydration period. The mechanism of the above results was that SF mainly affected the fluidity and rheology of the paste through the effect of water film thickness. The small density of SF particles resulted in a low sedimentation rate in the initial suspended paste, which effectively alleviated the internal particle agglomeration effect and enhanced stability. The SF had a dilution effect and nucleation effect during hydration acceleration, and the increase of hydration products effectively increased the plastic viscosity.
In order to explore the occurrence area of pervious concrete freeze-thaw deterioration, the mass loss, strength deterioration, ultrasonic longitudinal wave velocity and dynamic elastic modulus attenuation of pervious concrete under freeze-thaw cycles were measured, and a prediction model of freeze-thaw damage was established. The mechanical properties of hardened cement pastes with the same W/C ratio under freeze-thaw cycles were also measured. Mercury intrusion porosimetry (MIP) was used to measure the pore structure characteristic parameters and pore size distribution changes of cement paste under freeze-thaw cycle, and the microstructure evolution of interfacial transition zone (ITZ) of paste and aggregate was observed by SEM scanning electron microscopy. Finally, a pervious concrete model was established by DEM to analyze the relationship between the number of freeze-thaw cycles and the mesoscopic parameters. The results indicated that the quality, strength and dynamic elastic modulus of pervious concrete deteriorate to different degrees under the conditions of water freezing and salt freezing. The damage sensitivity and strength loss of freeze-thaw damage is greater than the dynamic elastic modulus loss, which is greater than mass loss. In the pervious concrete paste which underwent 100 freeze-thaw cycles, the pore structure and macro strength had no obvious change, and hardened paste and the aggregate-interface-generated defects increased with the increase in freezing and thawing times, indicating that the deterioration of pervious concrete performance under freeze-thaw cycles was closely related to the deterioration of the interface strength of the aggregate and hardened paste. The pervious concrete model established by DEM can accurately simulate the change of the compressive modulus and the strength of pervious concrete during freeze-thaw cycles.
The vibration process applied to fresh concrete is an important link in the construction process, but the lack of effective monitoring and evaluation methods results in the quality of the vibration process being difficult to control and, therefore, the structural quality of the resulting concrete structures difficult to guarantee. In this paper, according to the sensitivity of internal vibrators to vibration acceleration changes under different vibration media, the vibration signals of vibrators in air, concrete mixtures, and reinforced concrete mixtures were collected experimentally. Based on a deep learning algorithm for load recognition of rotating machinery, a multi-scale convolution neural network combined with a self-attention feature fusion mechanism (SE-MCNN) was proposed for medium attribute recognition of concrete vibrators. The model can accurately classify and identify vibrator vibration signals under different working conditions with a recognition accuracy of up to 97%. According to the classification results of the model, the continuous working times of vibrators in different media can be further statistically divided, which provides a new method for accurate quantitative evaluation of the quality of the concrete vibration process.

In this paper, the effect of a newly developed superfine basalt powder (SB) on the fresh and mechanical properties of cement paste was studied. The concept of water film thickness (WFT) was cited to explain the influence of SB on fresh and mechanical properties and related mathematical model formulas were established. In addition, the relationship between the fresh properties and mechanical properties of paste was also explored. The results indicated that SB can improve the segregation resistance and cohesiveness. The maximum improvement rate relative to the control cement paste was 75.4% and 50.4%, respectively. The 5% SB and 10% SB reduced the fluidity in the range of 4.1–68.7% but increased the early and late compressive strength in the range of 1.2–25.7% compared to control cement paste under different water/cementitious materials (W/CM) ratios. However, the influence of 20% SB on fluidity and compressive strength was opposite to the above behavior, and the increase rate and decrease rate were 1.8–11.8% and 1.1–13.9% respectively. The WFT was the most important factor that determined the compressive strength, rheological parameters, and flow parameters of paste containing SB, while the substitute content of SB and WFT together determined the bleeding rate and cohesiveness. Among them, the correlation between bleeding rate and WFT increased with time. The empirical mathematical models between WFT, fresh properties, and compressive strength were established and verified by other mineral admixtures, which were successfully extended and applied to the entire field of cement-based materials
Reinforcement corrosion poses a great threat to the safety of reinforced concrete structures, and the fiber-reinforced polymer is the ideal material to partially replace steel bars due to the high strength, light weight and good durability. However, the selection of appropriate fiber materials and a reasonable ratio of fiber bar to steel bar is not clear. Here, we measured the mechanical properties of fiber bars containing aramid fiber and carbon fiber. The deflection deformation, crack distribution and maximum crack width of the concrete upon various loads were experimentally and theoretically investigated. The predictions of the maximum crack width and deflection of reinforced concrete beams under various loads were proposed in ACI standard, which may provide guidance for further applications of fiber-belt-bar-containing concrete beams.
