In this study, a numerical investigation of photonic quasi-periodic Generalized Fibonacci (GF) (m, n) sequences is carried out in the visible spectrum. The transfer matrix method is employed to study the behavior of wave propagation through the photonic structures. Firstly and to highlight the importance of the GF structure, its transmittance spectrum is compared to those of periodic and ordinary Fibonacci structures. It is shown that the GF structure permits one to obtain multi-photonic band gaps (PBGs) separated by several resonance modes. The variation in the parameter m of the GF (m, 1) structure allows for the tuning of the number, the position and the width of these bands. By changing the parameter m, the wavelengths (650, 850, 1300, and 1550 nm) of the plastic and glass optical fibers can be allowed or forbidden to transmit through the structure according to the value of this parameter. In contrast, the variation in the parameter n for GF (1, n) hides all PBGs and only permits the appearance of several Kiessig fringes. The proposed structures can find application as tunable multi-band-stop filters for optical fiber wavelengths.
Working to ensure a safe and secure work environment for workers and employees has become an essential component of achieving organizational excellence in modern organizations. Occupational safety and health (OSH) programs help in attracting and retaining the workforce and human competencies, thus improving the operational and organizational performance of these organizations. Total quality management (TQM) is a management philosophy adopted by successful organizations to achieve sustainable business performance. This study aims to assess the level of implementation of total quality management and occupational safety and health in Saudi organizations and investigates the relationship between total quality management practices and occupational safety and health performance. Data were collected from a number of random organizations during the period November to December 2021. Based on a sample of 99 valid responses, empirical results were obtained through descriptive and advanced statistical analysis, indicating that TQM practices and OHS are highly implemented in Saudi organizations. The statistical results also showed that TQM practices have a significant positive impact on OSH performance in the surveyed organizations. The seven TQM fundamental pillars and the five OSH program components can be considered as essential success factors and fundamental pillars for TQM implementation in organizations and for OSH performance improvement.
The food industry at the global and local levels is increasingly exposed to severe challenges and disruptions because of rising consumer demands, and rigorous and strict local and international regulations related to food safety and environmental concerns, all of which necessitate the adoption of proven and recognized management philosophies and sustainable practices to run the manufacturing process. Although the food manufacturing industry has adopted total quality management, lean manufacturing practices, and other management philosophies, more efforts are still needed to enhance sustainable performance. The purpose of this study is to explore the integrated impact of TQM and lean manufacturing on the sustainability performance of the food manufacturing industry in Saudi Arabia. Moreover, it investigates the causal relationship between TQM and sustainability performance as well as the direct relationship between TQM and lean manufacturing. The survey questionnaire is used as the primary instrument for collecting data from food manufacturing organizations. Based on the literature review, a theoretical framework is built to hypothesize relationships between the constructs. A structural equation modeling and artificial neural network (SEM-ANN) combined approach is used to analyze the results. The findings of the present study show that TQM and lean manufacturing have a positive impact on sustainability performance. The study also identifies the list of valid constructs for total quality management and lean manufacturing, with a high impact of sustainability performance dimensions.
In various thermodynamic procedures and the optimisation of thermal manipulation, nanofluids flowing through porous media represent an emerging perspective. The main objective of this study, from the perspective of thermal applications, was the investigation of the flow of nanofluid over a horizontal stretched surface embedded in a porous medium. The effects of the chemical reactions on the surface, magnetic field, and thermal radiations were invoked in the mathematical formulation. The non-Darcy model examines the fluid flow in the porous media. The principles of thermodynamics were employed to integrate entropy optimisation methods with the established theoretical approach to analyse the thermal behaviour of nanomaterials in the chemical reactive diffusion processes. Using the Tiwari-Das nanofluid model, the volume fraction of the nanomaterials was merged in the mathematical equation for the flow model. Water was taken as a base fluid and nanoparticles composed of aluminium oxide (Al2O3) and silver (Ag) were used. The significance of radiation, heat production, and ohmic heating were included in the energy equation. Furthermore, an innovative mathematical model for the diffusion of the autocatalytic reactive species in the boundary layer flow was developed for a linear horizontally stretched surface embedded in a homogeneous non-Darcy porous medium saturated with the nanofluid. The computer-based built-in bvp5c method was used to compute numerically these equations for varied parameters. It is clear that the magnetic parameter has a reversal influence on the entropy rate and velocity. Temperature and velocity are affected in the opposite direction from a higher volume fraction estimate. Thermal field and entropy were increased when the radiation action intensified. The inclusion of nanoparticle fraction by the volume fraction of nanoparticles and Brinkman number also enhances the system entropy. Entropy production can be minimized with the involvement of the porosity factor within the surface.
