Cândida Tomaz graduated in Pharmaceutical Sciences from the University of Coimbra, Portugal, and completed a PhD in Biochemistry (2002) at the University of Beira Interior (UBI). She is Associate Professor in the Faculty of Sciences at UBI and a member of the RISE-Health Research Center. C Tomaz has held several positions at UBI, including General Council Member, President of the Sciences Faculty
Council, and Coordinator of the Biochemistry Doctoral Program. She was also Vice-Coordinator of the Biopharmaceutical and Biomaterials Research Group of the Health Sciences Research Center (CICS- UBI). Her research specializes in health biotechnology, focusing on the production, recovery, and purification of biopharmaceuticals, with expertise in downstream processing (DSP) and chromatographic
supports. Key areas of her work include plasmid DNA, DNA vaccines, aptamers, proteomics, and bioprocess development. C Tomaz is a member of the Portuguese Pharmaceutics Society, Portuguese Biochemistry and Biotechnology Societies, and the International Society for Molecular Recognition.
