Amphiphilic Janus dendrimers are arrangements containing both hydrophilic and hydrophobic units, capable of forming ordered aggregates by intermolecular noncovalent interactions between the dendrimer units. Compared to conventional dendrimers, these molecular self-assemblies possess particular and effective attributes i.e., the presence of different terminal groups, essential to design new elaborated materials. The present review will focus on the pharmaceutical and biomedical application of amphiphilic Janus dendrimers. Important information for the development of novel optimized pharmaceutical formulations, such as structural classification, synthetic pathways, properties and applications, will offer the complete characterization of this type of Janus dendrimers. This work will constitute an up-to-date background for dendrimer specialists involved in designing amphiphilic Janus dendrimer-based nanomaterials for future innovations in this promising field.

Glucosinolates-rich extracts of some Brassicaceae sources, such as broccoli, cabbage, black radish, rapeseed, and cauliflower, were obtained using an eco-friendly extraction method, in a microwave field, with 70% ethanol, and evaluated in order to establish their in vitro antioxidant activities and anticorrosion effects on steel material. The DPPH method and Folin-Ciocâlteu assay proved good antioxidant activity (remaining DPPH, 9.54–22.03%) and the content of total phenolics between 1008–1713 mg GAE/L for all tested extracts. The electrochemical measurements in 0.5 M H2SO4 showed that the extracts act as mixed-type inhibitors proving their ability to inhibit corrosion in a concentration-dependent manner, with a remarkable inhibition efficiency (92.05–98.33%) achieved for concentrated extracts of broccoli, cauliflower, and black radish. The weight loss experiments revealed that the inhibition efficiency decreased with an increase in temperature and time of exposure. The apparent activation energies, enthalpies, and entropies of the dissolution process were determined and discussed, and an inhibition mechanism was proposed. An SEM/EDX surface examination shows that the compounds from extracts may attach to the steel surface and produce a barrier layer. Meanwhile, the FT-IR spectra confirm bond formation between functional groups and the steel substrate.

Anthocyanins, a group of naturally occurring flavonoid compounds, have garnered increasing attention due to their wide-ranging biological activities that suggest their considerable potential to be utilized not only as natural food colorants but also as functional additives that can enhance food preservation and contribute to the development of health-promoting functional foods. Additionally, their sensitivity to environmental factors such as pH and temperature makes anthocyanins promising candidates for use in intelligent packaging systems, particularly as natural indicators for monitoring food freshness and quality throughout storage and distribution. Despite challenges related to their stability and regulatory acceptance, continued research into anthocyanins remains crucial for advancing sustainable, clean-label food technologies and reducing reliance on synthetic additives. To fully leverage their economic and health potential, it is essential to gain a comprehensive understanding of the various plant sources of anthocyanins, their chemical composition, extraction methods, and roles in different applications. Moreover, integrating anthocyanins into food and intelligent packaging systems presents various technical and regulatory challenges that are also summarized in this review.

Four alcoholic extracts from Romanian Cruciferous species—cabbage, acclimatized broccoli, black radish and cauliflower—were obtained in a microwave field. The extracts showed good and symmetric antioxidant activity (0.97–1.13 mmol/L TE) and good phenolic content (1001–1632 mg GAE/L). For the HPLC method, the limit of detection (LOD), limit of quantitation (LOQ) and recovery degree were established. The small values of LOD and LOQ indicated a great fit of data. The HPLC method achieved satisfactory quantitative recoveries in the range of 96%–122%, except for the lowest sinigrin concentration (8.774 µg/mL). The presence of metals in the studied extracts falls within the allowed limits. The four Cruciferous extracts showed good and slightly asymmetric antibacterial activities against some Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria, including strains with known resistance to antibiotics. Moreover, greater inhibitory effects were exhibited against Gram-negative bacteria. Asymmetrically, no inhibition was observed on the fungal strains. Therefore, the present results may suggest that some alcoholic extract formulas of cabbage and black radish (presenting good antibacterial activity) might be helpful in the antimicrobial fight and could be successfully used on selected cases and strains.

In this modern era, in which interest in natural compounds is gaining more ground, Geranium robertianum L. (Gr), a species with long use in traditional medicine, stands out for its promising potential in managing a multitude of health issues. In this context, the present review aims to explore the main phytocompounds detected in various types of extracts, as well as the biological activity of Gr species. This review was conducted by analyzing data published up to February 2025 from peer-reviewed journals and databases including PubMed, Web of Science, and Google Scholar, using key words combinations such as Geranium robertianum L. and the searched phytocompound and biological effect. According to the literature the main phytochemical classes identified in different types of extracts include tannins, flavonoids, phenolic acids, and essential oils. The most important biological actions described in the literature are antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, antimicrobial, antiulcerative, neuroprotective, anti-cancer, and antidiabetic effects. However, knowledge about Gr is still relatively limited, requiring more detailed study regarding its pharmacological proprieties and the molecular mechanisms behind them.

Bioactive compounds extracted from plants can provide wide health benefits. However, some molecules have limited applications as pharmaceuticals due to their limited solubility, poor bioavailability, and low stability when exposed to environmental factors. Their integration in formulations that can deliver them to physiological targets while preserving their biological activity can enhance their usage in improving human health. This research provides a delivery system design to enhance the solubility, stability and to mask the bitter taste of salicin. Thus, a novel salicin-β-cyclodextrin complex was prepared and analyzed by X-ray diffraction, scanning electron microscopy, thermogravimetric analysis, FTIR, Raman and UV-Vis spectroscopy. The analytical and computational methods provided clear and distinct evidence for inclusion of salicin within the β-cyclodextrin cavity and brought important findings for the characterization of the inclusion complex. The present study showed that salicin and β-cyclodextrin can form inclusion complexes, both in solution and in solid state, and that the inclusion of salicin in the cavity of β-cyclodextrin leads to the improvement of its solubility and stability. Thus, the study communicates both qualitative and quantitative knowledge about the preparation of a new salicin-β-cyclodextrin inclusion complex suggesting its potential applications in pharmaceutical industry and medical sciences, as formulations with better compliance for the patient, with increased bioavailability, and easier control of dosage.
