Mobile energy storage systems (MESSs) provide promising solutions to enhance distribution system resilience in terms of mobility and flexibility. This paper proposes a rolling integrated service restoration strategy to minimize the total system cost by coordinating the scheduling of MESS fleets, resource dispatching of microgrids and network reconfiguration of distribution systems. The integrated strategy takes into account damage and repair to both the roads in transportation networks and the branches in distribution systems. The uncertainties in load consumption and the status of roads and branches are modeled as scenario trees using Monte Carlo simulation method. The operation strategy of MESSs is modeled by a stochastic multi-layer time-space network technique. A rolling optimization framework is adopted to dynamically update system damage, and the coordinated scheduling at each time interval over the prediction horizon is formulated as a two-stage stochastic mixed-integer linear program with temporal-spatial and operation constraints. The proposed model is verified on two integrated test systems, one is with Sioux Falls transportation network and four 33-bus distribution systems, and the other is the Singapore transportation network-based test system connecting six 33-bus distribution systems. The results demonstrate the effectiveness of MESS mobility to enhance distribution system resilience due to the coordination of mobile and stationary resources.

This paper presents a uniform control strategy for the bidirectional ac/dc interlinking converter (BIC) in hierarchical controlled hybrid microgrid. The uniform control strategy unifies different control structures for multifunctional BIC in terms of power management, ac and dc voltage support. With the unified control structure, various triggering mechanisms for BIC mode-switch are not compulsory in response to the relevant scenario changes in the power network. Therefore, the negative consequences, such as unsmooth transition and system collapse due to the inaccurate or slower mode switch, can be avoided. Moreover, the uniform control strategy is also applicable for the hierarchical controlled hybrid microgrid, whose control architecture is typically comprised of the centralized and decentralized levels. This enables the communication fault ride-through capability and the impact from the communication failures can thus be mitigated. To sum up the above two features, the proposed control strategy is able to provide a smooth operation for the BIC without control mode switch in the event of unintentional scenario changes in power or communication network. To verify the validity of the proposed uniform control strategy, the controller hardware-in-the-loop experimental results have been provided in this paper.

The Modular Multilevel Converter (MMC) is very attractive in High Voltage DC (HVDC) transmission system due to its high modularity and scalability. It's also a promising candidate for medium voltage applications. MMC has many power devices which lead to a relatively low reliability based only on a direct failure rate calculation. The reliability of MMC can be improved by redundant designs. Lots of redundant designs and strategies have been proposed in recent years while their reliability improvements are hardly quantified in existing literature. In practice, reliability improvement with constraint costs is a challenge. In view of these, this paper proposed a reliability and cost assessment scheme for MMC redundant designs and strategies. Reliability and cost are quantified for comparison purpose. A medium voltage application is used to demonstrate the reliability and cost assessment scheme. The reliability analysis is based on combinatorial model and Poisson process model. The cost analysis focuses on capital cost and power loss cost. The proposed reliability and cost analysis scheme provides a guideline for MMC redundant design and redundant strategy selection.

The droop control is an advantageous approach for stand-alone supply systems consisting of multiple batteries, allowing among various inverters without intercommunication. The droop coefficients of batteries always vary with their state-of-charge (SoC) and charge/discharge mode, resulting in small-signal instability. Nevertheless, the existing impedance-based approaches can only assess the droop coefficients stability point, but not the stability region. Therefore, this article proposes a droop coefficients stability region analysis approach. First, the charge/discharge SoC-based droop controlled battery, the P&Q controlled distributed generator and the constant power load are separately discussed. Meanwhile, the state matrix and return-ratio matrix are established, respectively. Furthermore, the novel forbidden region criterion based on the return-ratio matrix is constructed, which reduces conservatism compared with norm-based impedance criteria and partial forbidden region criteria. Such a forbidden region criterion is first switched to the Hurwitz identification problem regarding the equivalent return-ratio matrix. Combined the state matrix and the equivalent return-ratio matrix, the generalized incidence matrix is constructed to simultaneously identify subsystem stability and interactive stability. Based on the generalized incidence matrix, an adaptive step search strategy is proposed to obtain the droop coefficients coordinated stability region. Finally, the simulation and experimental results illustrate the validity of the proposed method.

Battery swapping-charging system (BSCS) is a promising solution to provide better battery swapping service to electric vehicles (EVs). To achieve the optimal operation of BSCSs, a closed-loop supply chain (CLSC) based BSCS model is proposed to realize the combined operation of battery charging stations (BCSs) and battery swapping stations (BSSs) while the quality of battery swapping service at BSSs is ensured with a network calculus based service model. The battery logistics within the BSCS is modeled based on a time-space network (TSN) technique. The charging and the logistics of depleted batteries and wellcharged batteries are optimally managed to maximize the revenue of the BSCS. The optimization problem is formulated as a mixedinteger linear programming (MILP) model with various TSN and operation constraints. Random-permuted alternating direction method of multipliers (RP-ADMM) is applied as a heuristic to solve the problem in a distributed way. Simulation results verify the feasibility of the proposed model and the heuristic solution with small optimality losses and less computation time.
