Low-cost and renewable adsorbent activated carbon from lignocellulosic biomass is a focus of worldwide concern due to its readily available waste disposal problems in the environment. Physical and chemical processes are the main procedures forproduction of biomass-activated carbon (AC). Activating lignocellulosic biomass by chemical methods in terms of energy performance, lower timecarbonization, and temperature is mutual forthe production of activated carbon. Out of chemical activating agents (H3PO4, H2SO4, ZnCl2, FeCl3, NaOH, KOH, and K2CO3), H3PO4 is the most commonly used chemical activating agent during the synthesis of activated carbon from lignocellulosic biomass because of its ease of recovery, low environmental impact, and higher carbon yield. The surface area of most activated carbon from lignocellulosic biomass by H3PO4was in the variability of 456.1–2806 m2/g, yielding 26.1–85 % and an extreme adsorption capacity of 2.5–89.29 mg/g. And also, high acids to precursor ratio and activation temperature of AC were synthesized from lignocellulosic biomass. Generally, the advantage of this review paper, gathers evidence from currently published articles deliberating chemical composition, proximate values, biomass activation methods, the elemental composition of lignocellulosic biomass, physio-chemical properties of different lignocellulosic materials AC synthesized using a phosphoric acid activation agent, and the usage of derived activated carbon through phosphoric acid activation for water disinfection, solute organic matter, energy storage, and heavy metal removal.

Background: A wide variety of bacterial species produces protease enzyme, and the application of the same enzyme has been manipulated precisely and used in various biotechnological areas including industrial and environmental sectors. The main aim of this research study was to isolate, screen, and identify alkaline protease-producing bacteria that were sampled from leather industry effluent present in the outer skirts of Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. Purpose: To isolate and characterize the alkaline protease-producing bacteria from leather industrial effluents. Methods: Samples are collected from Modji leather industrial effluents and stored in the microbiology lab. After isolated bacteria from effluent using serial dilution and followed by isolated protease-producing bacteria using skim milk agar media. After studying primary and secondary screening using zonal inhibition methods to select potential protease-producing bacteria using skim milk agar media. Finally, to identify the potential bacteria using biochemical methods, bacterial biomass, protease activity, and gene sequencing (16S rRNA) method to finalize the best alkaline protease producing bacteria identified. Results: First twenty-eight different bacterial colonies were isolated initially from the leather industry effluent sample situated at the Modjo town of Ethiopia. The isolated bacteria were screened using the primary and secondary screening method with skim milk agar medium. At the primary level, we selected three isolates namely ML5(14 mm), ML12(18 mm), and MS12 (15 mm), showing the highest zone of proteolysis as a result of casein degradation on the agar plates were selected and subjected to primary screening. Further secondary screening confirmed that the zone of inhibition methods ML5 (14.00±0.75 mm), ML12 (19.50±0.66 mm), and MS12 (15.00±1.32 mm) has efficient proteolytic activity and can be considered as effective protease producer. The three isolates were then subjected to morphological and biochemical tests to identify probably bacterial species, and all the three bacterial isolates were found out to be of Bacillus species. The shake flask method was carried out to identify the most potent one having greater biomass production capabilities and protease activity. ML12 isolated from leather effluent waste showed the highest protease activity (19 U/ml), high biomass production, and the same was subjected to molecular identification using 16s sequencing and a phylogenetic tree was constructed to identify the closest neighbor. The isolate ML12 (Bacillus cereus strain -MN629232.1) is 97.87% homologous to Bacillus cereus strain (KY995152.1) and 97.86% homologous to Bacillus cereus strain (MK968813.1). Conclusions: This study has exposed that from twenty-eight different bacterial samples isolated from leather industry effluent; further primary and secondary screening methods were selected three potential alkaline protease strains. Finally, based on its biochemical identification, biomass, and protease activity, ML12 (Bacillus cereus strains) is the best strain identified. The alkaline protease has the significant feature of housing potent bacterial species for producing protease of commercial value.

Background: Bacterial pectinase is an enzyme that could be employed in numerous sectors to break down pectin polysaccharide compounds. The goal of this study is to find pectinase-producing bacteria in avocado peel waste and see if the pectinase enzyme produced can be used to make fruit juice clarification. Results: The researchers isolated four different bacterial strains from avocado peel waste samples. The potential two bacterial isolates that were identified as being Serratia marcescens and Lysinibacillus macrolides. Finally, the analysis of pectinase production and its application in fruit juice clarification were performed using one of the bacterial strains of Serratia marcescens. The clear apple, lemon, and mango juices were further processed to assess each juice's properties. The highest antioxidant activity was recorded in lemon juice samples. The lemon juice showed the highest total titratable acidity and total phenol content. Apple juices contained the highest total soluble solids, reducing sugar content, and viscosity and the mango juices have the maximum pH value recorded. Conclusions: The pectinase isolated from the bacterium Serratia marcescens could clear fruit juices. This pectinase needs to be studied more to make sure it works better in the fruit industry and other businesses.

Metal additive manufacturing (MAM) does not require any preface for its potential applications in various engineering and technological sectors. This article comprehensively discusses about the application of additive manufacturing technique specifically aerospace components. The structure of this article begins with an introduction to the current state‐of‐the‐art MAM technologies with the aid of patent landscape analysis. Any manufacturing starts with understating of the manufacturing cycle, so herein, the aerospace manufacturing cycle has been discussed commencing from the design phase and followed by the process parameters selection. The immediate effect after printing is the selection of evaluation parameters, wherein the surface texture analysis of AM printed components is discussed. This paves to discuss about the specific alloys such as titanium alloy and Inconel alloys which are widely used in the aerospace industry. This analysis paves a path for the utilization of these materials to manufacture specific aerospace components which are also discussed. Thereby, the impact of MAM over the aerospace sector and the guidelines to decision making on the suitable variant of MAM has been discussed clearly with the help of earlier literatures. Finally, the qualification and certification procedure are discussed therein, leading to the conclusion about the future scope of MAM in the aerospace sector.

Extremozymes are innovative and robust biocatalysts produced by various microorganisms from harsh environments. As thermophilic organisms can only develop in a few places, studying them in geothermal environments has provided new insights into the origins and evolution of early life and access to significant bio-resources with potential biotechnology applications. The work aimed to isolate and identify likely multiple extracellular enzyme-producing thermophilic bacteria from an Addis Ababa landfill (Qoshe). The streaking approach was used to purify 102 isolates acquired by serial dilution and spread plate method. The isolates were morphologically and biochemically characterized. Thirty-five cellulases, 22 amylase, 17 protease, and nine lipase-producing bacteria were identified using primary screening methods. Further secondary screening using Strain safety evaluation; two bacterial strains (TQ11 and TQ46) were identified. Based on morphological and biochemical tests, they were found to be gram-positive and rod-shaped. Furthermore, molecular identification and phylogenic analysis of selected promising isolates confirmed the identity of the isolates, Paenibacillus dendritiformis (TQ11) and Anoxybacillus flavithermus (TQ46). The results indicated that, multiple extracellular enzyme-producing thermophilic bacteria isolated from a waste dumping area in Addis Ababa offer useful features for environmental sustainability in a wide range of industrial applications due to their biodegradability and specialized stability under extreme conditions, increased raw material utilization, and decreased waste.

Triticum aestivum (Family: Poaceae), Ocimum sanctum (Family: Lamiaceae), and Tinospora cordifolia (Family: Menispermaceae) are commonly known as wheatgrass, tulsi, and giloy, respectively, which are the plants used as medicines for the treatment of various diseases. All three medicinal plants possess phenolic compounds with other important chemical constituents such as polysaccharides, aliphatic compounds, and alkaloids. The extract of these plants has been prepared and investigated for antioxidant, total phenolic content, total flavonoid content, and antimicrobial study in order to discover potential sources for new pharmaceutical formulations. To determine the antioxidant activity, a free radical scavenging assay for 2,2‐diphenyl‐1‐picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) and hydrogen peroxide was performed using ascorbic acid as the standard. The R2 value of the prepared extract was found to be 0.9964 and 0.990 in DPPH and hydrogen peroxide scavenging activity, respectively. The phenolic and flavonoid content was found to be 87.50 μl/ml and 58.00 μl/ml, respectively. The diffusion method was used to screen the antimicrobial activity of the prepared extract sample against various microorganisms. This extract showed better results for antioxidant and antimicrobial activity.
