The gardening of ornamental plants comes back to ancient times (Urartians). Nowadays the gardening of ornamental plants is done worldwide as in the Van provinces of Türkiye. Old and traditional gardens can be seen in different regions of this province naturally. Among these plants, Rosa laxa Retzius var. harputense T. Baytop (Kişmiri rose), is an exotic plant coming from Central Asia. Kişmiri rose has semi-double and miniature flowers and blooms for about five months in the ecological conditions of Van. It has not only highly decorative but also has a light, pleasant, and enthusiastic fragrance. As far as we know there is no previously published on the volatile profile of Rosa laxa Retz var. harputense (Kişmiri rose). For this purpose, in this study, "Headspace Solid Phase Micro Extraction Gas Chromatography-Mass Spectrometry" (HS/SPME/GC/MS) was applied for the detection of volatile compounds of Kişmiri rose flowers. A total of 31 compounds of Kişmiri rose were identified and quantified using Gas Chromatography-Mass Spectrometry (GC/MS). Among these identified compounds, phenyl ethyl alcohol (26.59%), cis-3-hexenyl acetate (18.573%) was detected as the major ones. According to the obtained results, it is concluded that our species has also a Chinese origin.

Hyacinth (Hyacinthus orientalis L.) is one of the most beloved ornamental plants with fragrant flowers. As one of the important bulbous plants, hyacinth is used as a cut flower, potted flower, and garden flower. Due to their unique aroma, hyacinth flowers are used in perfumery especially in France whose perfume industry is well-known in the world. In this study, Headspace Solid Phase Micro Extraction (HS-SPME) GC/MS (Gas Chromatography/Mass Spectrometry) technique was used for the analysis of volatile compounds of flower samples. A total of 28 volatile compounds were identified in the fresh flowers of hyacinths. Phenylethyl alcohol, benzyl acetate, a-pinene, and furfural were the major aromas accounting for hyacinth fragrance.

En tr This study was conducted on the YYU campus area as a field survey, according to the randomized block experimental design carried out in three replicated. The yellow and orange marigold species with humic acids (HA0;0 kg HA da-1, HA1;10 kg HA da-1, HA2;20 kg HA da-1, HA3;40 kg HA da-1) were used. At the end of the experiment, the soil samples taken from the field of study were analyzed organic matter, soil reactions, total salt content, lime content, nitrogen, phosphorus, potassium, calcium, magnesium, natrium, iron, manganese, zinc, copper, cadmium, nickel and lead contents. The increased humic acid applications have influenced pH (P<0.01), lime (P<0.01), organic matter (P<0.05) with phosphorus (P<0.01), iron (P<0.05), zinc (P<0.05) and nickel (P<0.01) contents. The effect variety (V) has been determined on the available of soil iron (P<0.01), zinc (P<0.01), cadmium (P<0.01), nickel (P<0.01), and lead (P<0.01) contents. The interaction of only affected the nickel (P<0.01) and zinc (P<0.01) contents. As a result, humic acid applications have an important and positive effect on many properties of soil.

Secondary metabolites especially phenolic compounds, flavonoids, tannins, and terpenoids have potential antioxidants and antimicrobial activity. Carotenoids are important antioxidants and bioactive compounds supplying to the health benefits of different foods and rosehips known for high bioactive content. Anthocyanins have physiological importance because of their abilities to protect leaves from photooxidative injuries without significantly compromising photosynthesis. Numerous studies shown that roses are rich sources of bioactive compounds. The genus Rosa contains various species that are widely grown in Europe, Asia, The Middle East and North America. In this study it was aimed that determination of carotenoid, carotene and anthocyanin amounts of naturally growing old garden roses species in Van ecological conditions. In this study eleven species of rosehips (Rosa damascena, Rosa damascena var. semperflorens, Rosa laxa ssp. harputensis, Rosa alba, Rosa multiflora, Rosa pisiformis, Rosa foetida, Rosa foetida var. bicolor, Rosa hemisphaerica, Rosa hemisphaerica var. plena hort, Rosa heckellana subsp. vanheurckiona) naturally grown in Van conditions were used as plant material. The fresh leaves (100-200 mg), immediately after harvesting, were homogenized by 80% aqueous acetone and filtered by white tape filter paper. In the extracts, carotenoid, carotene and anthocyanin levels were determined by using UV spectrophotometer in 470 nm, 537 nm, 647 nm, 663 nm wavelengths respectively. As a result, the highest and lowest carotenoid levels were found as 3.18 µg/ml and 0.59 µg/ml in R. heckellana subsp. vanheurckiona and R. damascena var. semperflorens. The highest anthocyanin level was determined in R. damascena as 0.06 µg/ml.
