Periodontitis is a chronic inflammatory disease of the gums. The incidence of periodontitis is increasing all over the world. In patients with periodontitis, there is gradual destruction of the periodontal ligament and the alveolar bone, and later, in advanced stages, there is tooth loss. Different microorganisms, the host’s immune response, and various environmental factors interact in the progression of this chronic inflammatory disease. In the present review, we discuss the epidemiology, clinical features, diagnosis, and complications of periodontitis. We also discuss the association of chronic inflammation found in periodontitis with various other systemic diseases, which include cardiovascular, respiratory, diabetes, Alzheimer’s, cancer, adverse pregnancy, and multiple myeloma, and also highlight microbial carcinogenesis and the microRNAs involved. The latest updates on the molecular mechanism, possible biomarkers, and treatment procedures may be beneficial for diagnostic and therapeutic purposes.

Background: Hand, foot, and mouth disease (HFMD) is a viral infection caused by a virus from the enterovirus genus of picornavirus family that majorly affects children. Though most cases of HFMD do not cause major problems, the outbreaks of Enterovirus 71 (EV71) can produce a high risk of neurological sequelae, including meningoencephalitis, lung difficulties, and mortality. In Asia, HFMD caused by EV71 has emerged as an acutely infectious disease of highly pathogenic potential, which demands the attention of the international medical community. Main body of the Some online databases including NCBI, PubMed, Google Scholar, ProQuest, Scopus, and EBSCO were also accessed using keywords relating to the topic for data mining. The paid articles were accessed through the Centre Library facility of Siksha O Anusandhan University. This work describes the structure, outbreak, molecular epidemiology of Enterovirus 71 along with different EV71 vaccines. Many vaccines have been developed such as inactivated whole-virus live attenuated, subviral particles, and DNA vaccines to cure the patients. In Asia–Pacific nations, inactivated EV71 vaccination still confronts considerable obstacles in terms of vaccine standardization, registration, price, and harmonization of pathogen surveillance and measurements. Short conclusion: HFMD has emerged as a severe health hazard in Asia–Pacific countries in recent decades. In Mainland China and other countries with high HFMD prevalence, the inactivated EV71 vaccination will be a vital tool in safeguarding children's health. When creating inactivated EV71 vaccines, Mainland China ensured maintaining high standards of vaccine quality. The Phase III clinical studies were used to confirm the safety and effectiveness of vaccinations. Graphical

Marine algae have gained substantial attention from various scientific and commercial fields. The reason behind its importance is due to the rich source of bioactive compounds like proteins, carbohydrates, lipids, and other pigments. Marine algae-derived carrageenans polysaccharides are used in food, medicine, cosmetic items, gelling, emulsifying, and stabilizing agents. The carrageenan has also photoprotective activity as it protects against the UVB-induced apoptosis in HaCaT cells and inhibits skin aging and cancers. Marine algae-derived macromolecules including polysaccharides and proteins have anticoagulant and photoprotective activities. The marine algae used in health sector is not limited to a food supplement only, rather, the derivatives from it are increasingly used in the biomedical application too. Different biological activities of marine algae as immunomodulatory, anti-tumor, anti-viral, anti-cancer, anti-aging, anti-oxidant, and anti-diabetic are discussed in this review. This mini-review is comprehensively based on the bioactivities materials from brown, red, green, and blue-green algae used in various biomedical fields.

Background: Despite recent advances in the diagnosis and treatment of oral cancer, relative survival rates have not changed significantly. Moringa oleifera (M. oleifera) Lam. is one such plant with its anticancer properties being proved in its leaves, stem, flowers but no studies are yet reported proving the anticancer property of its seed oil on oral cancer. This study aimed to evaluate the anti-proliferative and cytotoxic effect of M. oleifera seed oil against two Oral squamous cell carcinoma cell lines CAL27 and SCC15 using MTT assay. Results: 2D GC-TOF Mass spectrometry revealed a total of 199 compounds, among which the majority were alkanes (68.2016%) and fatty acid esters (11.1399%). The MTT assay report showed good dose-dependent activity. A significant reduction in cell viability within 24 h with IC50 value of 17.78 µg/mL and 24.28 µg/mL for all treatment groups was observed for both the cell lines CAL27 and SCC15. Conclusion: MTT assay showed a significant decrease in cell viability with an increase in the oil dose, thereby revealing the cytotoxic and anti-proliferative activity of M. oleifera seed oil on oral cancer cell lines namely CAL27and SCC15. The results of this study indicate that M. oleifera seed oil can be used as a potent anti-cancer agent in the treatment of Oral cancer. Graphical

Moringa oleifera is a considerable ethnomedical herb with various bioactive compounds. This study aimed to analyze the efficacy of M. oleifera in the prevention and management of various oral conditions. A thorough search was conducted on the Web of Science, Scopus, PubMed, and PubMed Central databases. After screening the data on the basis of inclusion and exclusion criteria, 9 studies were considered for further meta-analysis. The analysis was performed on R programming software (version R-4.0.2) and the results were represented by a forest plot. The estimate obtained via common and random effects model for in vitro studies was statistically insignificant (I2 test P > 0.05) with risk ratios of 8.25 (95% CI: 3.76-18.08) and 7.98 (95% CI: 3.64-17.50) and for in vivo studies were statistically significant (I2 test P )0.05 < with risk ratios of 1.12 (95% CI: 0.90-1.40) and 0.97 (95% CI: 0.71-1.32), indicating the efficacy of M. oleifera in oral diseases on animal and clinical trials, whereas it failed to report the efficacy on in vitro level. Future research has to be done to come up with new and more phytoactive compounds from all parts of the plant with proper extraction procedures. The effectiveness of the compounds has to be validated first on in vitro scale followed by clinical trials so that M. oleifera can be used as therapy in preventing and managing oral ailments.
