Due to the increase in penetration of renewable energy sources, the control technique plays a vital role to determine the performance of Microgrid (MG). Recently, the Internet of Things (IoT) and cloud computing has gained significance in solving various industrial problems. Robust and scalable Information Communication Technology (ICT) infrastructure is critical for efficient control of MG. IoT Devices with efficient measurement and control capability can play a key role in the MG environment. In this paper three layers hierarchical control of inverter based MG was developed using cloud-based IoT infrastructure and machine learning (ML) based islanding detection scheme. MG was operated in both island and grid connected mode. In the Primary layer, a voltage frequency (V-F) droop control with virtual impedance control was applied to avoid the disturbances in island mode. Moreover, Active Reactive (P-Q) power control was used for grid connected mode. In the secondary layer voltage and frequency deviations were removed by using the decentralized averaging based method. Voltage and frequency from each distributed generator (DG) were communicated by using a lightweight IoT-based protocol through an edge device (ED). Context-aware policy (CAP) was adopted in ED to optimize traffic flow over a communication network (CN) by comparing the difference in the present and previous data values. In the tertiary layer, a cloud-based ML model was developed using an artificial neural network (ANN) for islanding detection. ANN model was trained by data produced by simulating islanding scenarios in Matlab. Phasor measurement unit (PMU) data was communicated to the cloud for island prediction. The Proposed scheme was implemented on a modified IEEE-13 bus system with four inverter-based distributed generators (DGs) in Matlab, and Microsoft cloud services were used. The successful implementation of MG hierarchical control using an IoT feedback network with less data traffic along with cloud-based islanding detection using machine learning are the main contributions in this work. The whole system achieves stability within 2 seconds of islanding according to IEEE 1547 standards.
A Flying Ad-hoc Network (FANET) consists of Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) tasked to handle the communication jobs in a multi-hop ad-hoc fashion. Unlike its predecessors, i.e. Mobile Ad-hoc Networks (MANETs) and Vehicular Ad-hoc Networks (VANETs), a FANET promises uninterrupted connectivity, especially during events that are temporary and stipulate a massive audience reach. However, usually, the participating UAVs in a FANET environment are resource-constrained and are, therefore, prone to cyber-attacks. In order to resolve the issue and to enable a secure communication between the UAVs and the Base Station (BS), we propose a Certificateless Key-Encapsulated Signcryption (CL-KESC) scheme. The scheme is based on the concept of Certificateless Public Key Cryptography (CL-PKC). Since CL-PKC is immune to key escrow problems and thus one of the major drawbacks of the Identity-based Public Key Cryptography (ID-PKC) is addressed. Unfortunately, the existing construction models of CL-KESC rely on elliptic curve-based operations, which are computationally expensive for small UAVs. To counter the issue, in this paper, we present a new construction model of CL-KESC based on Hyperelliptic Curve Cryptography (HECC). HECC is an advanced version of the elliptic curve and is characterized by smaller parameter and key size. The key size stretches to a maximum of 80-bits, as opposed to the elliptic curve that demands a 160-bits key size. The proposed scheme proved to be superior, chiefly in terms of security and performance, as demonstrated by the results obtained from the security verification and by carrying out comparative analysis with the existing counterparts.

Short Time Fourier Transform (STFT) is an important technique for the time-frequency analysis of a time varying signal. The basic approach behind it involves the application of a Fast Fourier Transform (FFT) to a signal multiplied with an appropriate window function with fixed resolution. The selection of an appropriate window size is difficult when no background information about the input signal is known. In this paper, a novel empirical model is proposed that adaptively adjusts the window size for a narrow band-signal using spectrum sensing technique. For wide-band signals, where a fixed time-frequency resolution is undesirable, the approach adapts the constant Q transform (CQT). Unlike the STFT, the CQT provides a varying time-frequency resolution. This results in a high spectral resolution at low frequencies and high temporal resolution at high frequencies. In this paper, a simple but effective switching framework is provided between both STFT and CQT. The proposed method also allows for the dynamic construction of a filter bank according to user-defined parameters. This helps in reducing redundant entries in the filter bank. Results obtained from the proposed method not only improve the spectrogram visualization but also reduce the computation cost and achieves 87.71% of the appropriate window length selection.

This article provides a comprehensive survey of aggregation strategies in federated learning (FL). This decentralized machine learning (ML) paradigm enables multiple clients to collaboratively train models without sharing their local datasets. Aggregation is a pivotal aspect of FL, as it integrates model updates from diverse clients into a unified global model while addressing critical challenges such as data heterogeneity, scalability, and privacy preservation. The study categorizes aggregation strategies into three primary approaches: data-centric, model-centric, and secure aggregation, each tailored to address distinct problems in FL systems. Data-centric strategies focus on addressing non-independent and identically distributed (non-IID) data across clients, ensuring that model updates account for imbalances in data distributions. Model-centric strategies optimize the aggregation of model parameters, emphasizing techniques such as weighted averaging and model distillation to improve model performance across clients with diverse data characteristics. Secure aggregation techniques aim to enhance privacy and robustness, protecting client data from potential adversarial threats through encryption-based methods like secure multi-party computation (SMPC) and Byzantine-resilient techniques. The analysis delves into the advantages and limitations of these aggregation strategies, particularly their role in tackling challenges like non-IID data, communication efficiency, and resistance to adversarial attacks. Furthermore, the article identifies existing research gaps in FL, including the need for more scalable and robust aggregation methods capable of reducing communication costs, enhancing privacy guarantees, and improving performance in highly heterogeneous environments. These insights provide a roadmap for future research aimed at advancing aggregation strategies in FL to improve model accuracy, security, and efficiency in real-world applications.
Power restoring time in power distribution systems (PDS) can be minimized by using efficient fault localization techniques. This paper proposes a novel, robust and scalable cloud based internet of things (IoT) solution for identification and localization of faults in PDS. For this purpose, a new algorithm is developed that can detect single and multiple simultaneous faults in the presence of single and multiple device or sensor failures. The algorithm has utilized a zone based approach that divides a PDS into different zones. A current sensing device (CSD) was deployed at the boundary of a zone. The function of CSD is to provide time synchronized current measurements and communicate with a cloud server through an edge device (ED). Another contribution of this research work is the unique implementation of context aware policy (CAP) in ED. Due to CAP, only those measurements are transmitted to cloud server that differ from the previously transmitted measurements. The cloud server performed calculations at regular intervals to detect faults in PDS. A relational database model was utilized to log various fault events that occur in PDS. An IEEE 37 node test feeder was selected as PDS to observe the performance of our solution. Two test cases were designed to simulate individual and multiple simultaneous faults in PDS. A third test case was implemented to demonstrate the robustness and scalability of proposed solution to detect multiple simultaneous faults in PDS when single and multiple sensor failures were encountered. It was observed that the new algorithm successfully localized the faults for all the three cases. Consequently, significant reductions were noticed in the amount of data that was sent to the cloud server. In the end, a comparison study of a proposed solution was performed with existing methods to further highlight the benefits of our technique.
