According to the WHO, Cancer is a prominent cause of mortality worldwide, accounting for ~ 10 million fatalities at the end of 2020. The most common types of cancers include Lung, Breast, CNS, Leukemia, Colon, and Cervical Cancer. Early detection of cancer can decrease the death toll. According to the study, if the cancer is identified at its early stage, the death rate can be reduced to ~85%. In order to reduce the death toll, machine learning (ML) emerges as a significant solution. When it comes to cancer research with ML, biopsy and microarray data come into the front. The biopsy data is less useful as it excludes a patient’s genetic information. However, due to the genetic information, the microarray data emerges as a solution to detecting cancer disease. Dealing with microarray data also has some consequences, and high dimensionality is one of them. This article reports an ML-based ensemble model to tackle microarray data issues and provide an effective model for cancer detection. The reported model uses Minimum Redundancy Maximum Relevance (MRMR) as the feature selection algorithm. The Whale Optimization Algorithm (WOA) is implemented for the featured dataset to select the optimistic number of features without affecting microarray data relevance. Then, four ML-based classification models, including Support Vector Machine, Decision Tree, Multi-Layer Perceptron, and Random Forest, are applied as the base learners to make initial predictions. Finally, the voting ensemble technique is applied to the initial prediction to develop an ensemble model for cancer prediction. The proposed En-MinWhale model is evaluated over six different types of cancer microarray datasets, including Lung, Leukemia, Ovarian, CNS, Breast, and Colon Cancer. Finally, the performance of the proposed model is evaluated using 11 various evaluative parameters, including accuracy, precision, specificity, sensitivity, F-β score, etc. The En-MinWhale model shows 94.09%, 95.83%, 94.86%, 95.00%, 94.85%, and 96.77% accuracy for Lung, Leukemia, Ovarian, CNS, Breast, and Colon Cancer datasets, respectively, that outperforms other considered hybrid models and can help out the physicians in Cancer diagnosis.

Recently, it has proven difficult to make an immediate remote diagnosis of any coronary illness, including heart disease, diabetes, etc. The drawbacks of cloud computing infrastructures, such as excessive latency, bandwidth, energy consumption, security, and privacy concerns, have lately been addressed by Fog computing with IoT applications. In this study, an IoT-Fog-Cloud integrated system, called a Fog-empowered framework for real-time analysis in heart patients using ENsemble Deep learning (FRIEND), has been introduced that can instantaneously facilitate remote diagnosis of heart patients. The proposed system was trained on the combined dataset of Long-Beach, Cleveland, Switzerland, and Hungarian heart disease datasets. We first tested the model with eight basic ML approaches, including the decision tree, logistic regression, random forest, naive Bayes, k-nearest neighbors, support vector machine, AdaBoost, and XGBoost approaches, and then applied ensemble methods including bagging classifiers, weighted averaging, and soft and hard voting to achieve enhanced outcomes and a deep neural network, a deep learning approach, with the ensemble methods. These models were validated using 16 performance and 9 network parameters to justify this work. The accuracy, PPV, TPR, TNR, and F1 scores of the experiments reached 94.27%, 97.59%, 96.09%, 75.44%, and 96.83%, respectively, which were comparatively higher when the deep neural network was assembled with bagging and hard-voting classifiers. The user-friendliness and the inclusion of Fog computing principles, instantaneous remote cardiac patient diagnosis, low latency, and low energy consumption, etc., are advantages confirmed according to the achieved experimental results.

Across all countries, both developing and developed, women face the greatest risk of breast cancer. Patients who have their breast cancer diagnosed and staged early have a better chance of receiving treatment before the disease spreads. The automatic analysis and classification of medical images are made possible by today’s technology, allowing for quicker and more accurate data processing. The Internet of Things (IoT) is now crucial for the early and remote diagnosis of chronic diseases. In this study, mammography images from the publicly available online repository The Cancer Imaging Archive (TCIA) were used to train a deep transfer learning (DTL) model for an autonomous breast cancer diagnostic system. The data were pre-processed before being fed into the model. A popular deep learning (DL) technique, i.e., convolutional neural networks (CNNs), was combined with transfer learning (TL) techniques such as ResNet50, InceptionV3, AlexNet, VGG16, and VGG19 to boost prediction accuracy along with a support vector machine (SVM) classifier. Extensive simulations were analyzed by employing a variety of performances and network metrics to demonstrate the viability of the proposed paradigm. Outperforming some current works based on mammogram images, the experimental accuracy, precision, sensitivity, specificity, and f1-scores reached 97.99%, 99.51%, 98.43%, 80.08%, and 98.97%, respectively, on the huge dataset of mammography images categorized as benign and malignant, respectively. Incorporating Fog computing technologies, this model safeguards the privacy and security of patient data, reduces the load on centralized servers, and increases the output.

Objective: The cancer death rate has accelerated at an alarming rate, making accurate diagnosis at the primary stages crucial to enhance prognosis. This has deepened the issue of cancer mortality, which is already at an exponential scale. It has been observed that concentration on datasets drawn from supporting primary sources using machine learning algorithms brings the accuracy expected for cancer diagnosis. Methods: This research presents an innovative cancer classification technique that combines fast minimum redundancy-maximum relevance-based feature selection with Binary Portia Spider Optimization Algorithm to optimize features. The features selected, with the aid of fast mRMR and tested with a range of classifiers, Support Vector Machine, Weighted Support Vector Machine, Extreme Gradient Boosting, Adaptive Boosting, and Random Forest classifier, are tested for comprehensively proofed performance. Results: The classification efficiency of the advanced model is tested on six different cancer datasets that exhibit classification challenges. The empirical analysis confirms that the proposed methodology FmRMR-BPSOA is effective since it reached the highest accuracy of 99.79%. The result is of utmost significance as the proposed model emphasizes the need for alternative and highly efficient greater precision cancer diagnosis. The classification accuracy concludes that the model holds great promise for real-life medical implementations.

Breast cancer poses the greatest long-term health risk to women worldwide, in both industrialized and developing nations. Early detection of breast cancer allows for treatment to begin before the disease has a chance to spread to other parts of the body. The Internet of Things (IoT) allows for automated analysis and classification of medical pictures, allowing for quicker and more effective data processing. Nevertheless, Fog computing principles should be used instead of Cloud computing concepts alone to provide rapid responses while still meeting the requirements for low latency, energy consumption, security, and privacy. In this paper, we present CanDiag, an approach to cancer diagnosis based on Transfer Deep Learning (TDL) that makes use of Fog computing. This paper details an automated, real-time approach to diagnosing breast cancer using deep learning (DL) and mammography pictures from the Mammographic Image Analysis Society (MIAS) library. To obtain better prediction results, transfer learning (TL) techniques such as GoogleNet, ResNet50, ResNet101, InceptionV3, AlexNet, VGG16, and VGG19 were combined with the well-known DL approach of the convolutional neural network (CNN). The feature reduction technique principal component analysis (PCA) and the classifier support vector machine (SVM) were also applied with these TDLs. Detailed simulations were run to assess seven performance and seven network metrics to prove the viability of the proposed approach. This study on an enormous dataset of mammography images categorized as normal and abnormal, respectively, achieved an accuracy, MCR, precision, sensitivity, specificity, f1-score, and MCC of 99.01%, 0.99%, 98.89%, 99.86%, 95.85%, 99.37%, and 97.02%, outperforming some previous studies based on mammography images. It can be shown from the trials that the inclusion of the Fog computing concepts empowers the system by reducing the load on centralized servers, increasing productivity, and maintaining the security and integrity of patient data.

Heart Disease, one of the deadliest human diseases worldwide, should be properly diagnosed in time and treatments should be carried out accordingly. To predict Heart Diseases, decision making systems based on classification techniques have been widely proposed in various studies. In this paper, an Integrated Decision Making System (IDMS) has been introduced for prediction of heart disease. In addition, it uses Principal Component Analysis (PCA) for dimensionality reduction, Agglomerative hierarchical clustering technique for clustering and Random Forest (RF) for classification purpose. Then, the results are compared with other six conventional classification techniques. Some experiments are performed using Cleveland Heart Disease Dataset (CHDD) sourced from UCI-ML repository and Python language concluding that the proposed system provides better results comparing with other conventional methods. The proposed integrated decision making system will help out the doctors to diagnose the heart patients professionally and it may be useful for further investigation and predictions using different datasets and resulting valuable knowledge on Heart Disease.
