Renato Somma is Researcher since 2006 at Istituto Nazionale di Geofisica e Vulcanologia.
His plurennial research experience has been focused on the development of original interpretative geochemical model for several Italian volcanic districts (Campi Flegrei, Ischia, Vesuvius, Eolian Islands); modelling of geothermal reservoirs (Ischia and Campi Flegrei); development of new concepts for the interpretation of ground deformation and seismicity at collapse calderas; stress-strain modelling and studies of fault interaction and volcano-tectonic interaction; geo-mechanics and processes involved in creating induced seismicity during fluid injection. Actually he is involved in research related to resilience and mitigation the volcanic risk in the Neapoletan area and innovation of insurance services in catastrophe risk management.
He was the principal investigator of relevant national and international projects, with the task of directing and coordinating wide and high-quality research groups at the national and international level.
He is the author of more than 60 publications and 150 presentation (oral or poster) at national and international meeting in the fields of geochemistry, volcanology, geophysics, geothermal energy, resilience of inhabitants in volcanic areas, and mitigating volcanic risk.
