Marco Ferrari graduated from the School of Medicine and Surgery of the University of Pisa in July 1983 with a maximum score and received a General Dentistry degree with honors in 1987 from the University of Siena. Between 1987 and 1988, he attended the Post-Graduate Program in Prosthodontics at Tufts University, Boston. After returning to Italy, he started teaching at the School of Dental Medicine of the University of Siena as a Contract Professor (1990). In 1995, he received a Ph.D. degree from the University of Amsterdam. In July 2003, Prof. Ferrari was appointed Dean of the School of Dental Medicine of the University of Siena, and his appointment was renewed several times until the end of the 2021–2022 academic year. In October 2003, he was appointed Vice Rector of International Relations at the University of Siena. He is an official evaluator of the Italian Research in Dentistry Committee of The Italian Minister of Education (2008–present). He is President of the National Conference of Schools of Dental Medicine (2010–present), the organization that comprises all Italian Deans of Schools of Dentistry. He is a member of the National Agency for Evaluating Research of the Italian Minister of Education (2011–present). His research interests include sensors, electronics, actuators, MEMS design, energy harvesting, piezoelectricity, sensor development, transducers, and electronic instrumentation.
