Electronic gadgets have been designed to incorporating very small components such as microcontrollers, electronic chips, transistors, microprocessors, etc. These components are exceptionally heat sensitive and can be wrecked if heat is not released. As a result, the thermal control of such components is critical to their optimum performance and extended life. The use of a microchannel heat sink (MCHS) has shown promising solutions to remove the excess heat. In this paper, we have proposed a novel design of MCHS and investigated it numerically. Four different surface modifications on the sidewall of the passage, namely, extended triangular surface (ETS), extended circular surface (ECS), triangular groove surface (TGS), and the circular groove surface (CGS) in the passage of the microchannel have been exploited in the Reynolds number of 100–900. In the presence of geometrical modification, the cooling capacities have been enhanced. The results show that the Nusselt numbers of ETS-MCHS, ECS-MCHS, TGS-MCHS, and CGS-MCHS are increased by 4.30, 3.61, 1.62, and 1.41 times in comparison to the Nusselt number of MCHS with smooth passage, while the friction factor values are increased by 7.33, 6.03, 2.74, and 1.68 times, respectively. In addition, the thermohydraulic performance parameter (THPP) has been evaluated and discussed. The fact that MCHS have THPP values greater than unity demonstrates that the passage’s geometries are a practical means of achieving effective thermal management.

The processing of aluminum alloys in optimal conditions is a problem that has not yet been fully resolved. The research carried out so far has proposed various intelligent tools, but which cannot be used in the presence of cooling-lubricating fluids. The objective of the research carried out in the paper was to design intelligent tools that would allow a control of the vibrations of the tool tip and to determine a better roughness of the processed surfaces. The designed intelligent tools can be used successfully in the processing of aluminum alloys, not being sensitive to coolants-lubricants. In the research, the processing by longitudinal turning of a semi-finished product with a diameter Ø = 55 mm of aluminum alloy A2024-T3510 was considered. Two constructive variants of smart tools were designed, realized, and used, and the obtained results were compared with those registered for the tools in the classic constructive variant. The analysis of vibrations that occur during the cutting process was performed using the following methods: Fast Fourier Transform (FFT); Short-Time Fourier-Transformation (STFT); the analysis of signal of vibrations. A vibration analysis was also performed by modeling using the Finite Element Method (FEM). In the last part of the research, an analysis of the roughness of the processed surfaces, was carried out and a series of diagrams were drawn regarding curved profiles; filtered profiles; Abbott–Firestone curve. Research has shown that the use of smart tools in the proposed construction variants is a solution that can be used in very good conditions for processing aluminum alloys, in the presence of cooling-lubrication fluids.

Transition type fittings are components often used in facilities where fluids are transported that allow the passage from a high density polyethylene (HDPE) pipe to a steel pipe. In the presented studies, four types of transition fittings were analyzed in the first stage. The four types of transition fittings are distinguished by the shape of their welded steel construction. The performed analyses took into account testing the behavior upon exposure to fatigue, measuring the HDPE hardness and applying the finite element method (FEM). As a result of these studies it was demonstrated that the form of the welded steel construction has a very great influence on the operating behavior of the transition fitting. Thus, a new transition fitting with a welded steel construction was designed. In this new type of transition fitting, an approximately 50% increase in resistance to fatigue stress, an approximately 90% reduction in stress in the part material and a reduction in the hardness of the material in HDPE pipes was obtained. The studies allow not only an improvement of the characteristics for these types of parts, but also the optimization of other types of steel-plastic joints.

Transition type fittings are components often used in the transport facilities of fluid, and which allow the passage from a polyethylene (PE) pipe to a metal pipe. Within the paper, there was carried out a sustainability analysis of the manufacturing process for four types of existing transition fittings, and based upon the findings, there was proposed another type of transition fitting. For this new type of transition fitting, both a sustainability analysis and a finite element method (FEM) analysis were performed. Thus, based upon the analysis, there was found that the new constructive variant of transitional fitting is much more sustainable in the sense that the cost of processing has decreased from 0.77 Euros/part to 0.20 Euros/part, and this proposed transition fitting is resistant to tensile stress at a force of 25,800 N, a very large force that shows that the adopted assembly, for this new type of transition fitting will not yield during the operation.

The world we are living in is shaped by what is a reality for years already: globalisation of economy. The lack of borders makes the impact that technology has on society to be a major one. The virtual world so accessible today is not just about new markets, access to cheaper work force, work online but also fierce competition. The common denominator of most efforts in the area of industry is performance. Limits continuously moving willingness to pay for products that delineate the performance delivered be the same range. Here too we can see the role of the education. For example, Landes1 shows that both knowledge and know-how are the ones that determine how well off societies are. The education of engineers is therefore critical to every nation to ensure the prosperity of its citizens. This paper here intends to approach the educational process of the engineering specific area of knowledge from the management perspective. The training process becomes sustainable in accordance with the requirements of the future: trained specialists for sustainable enterprises.
