In the modern world, chronic kidney disease is one of the most severe diseases that negatively affects human life. It is becoming a growing problem in both developed and underdeveloped countries. An accurate and timely diagnosis of chronic kidney disease is vital in preventing and treating kidney failure. The diagnosis of chronic kidney disease through history has been considered unreliable in many respects. To classify healthy people and people with chronic kidney disease, non-invasive methods like machine learning models are reliable and efficient. In our current work, we predict chronic kidney disease using different machine learning models, including logistic, probit, random forest, decision tree, k-nearest neighbor, and support vector machine with four kernel functions (linear, Laplacian, Bessel, and radial basis kernels). The dataset is a record taken as a case–control study containing chronic kidney disease patients from district Buner, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Pakistan. To compare the models in terms of classification and accuracy, we calculated different performance measures, including accuracy, Brier score, sensitivity, Youdent, specificity, and F1 score. The Diebold and Mariano test of comparable prediction accuracy was also conducted to determine whether there is a substantial difference in the accuracy measures of different predictive models. As confirmed by the results, the support vector machine with the Laplace kernel function outperforms all other models, while the random forest is competitive.

Nowadays, electricity theft is a major issue in many countries and poses a significant financial loss for global power utilities. Conventional Electricity Theft Detection (ETD) models face challenges such as the curse of dimensionality and highly imbalanced electricity consumption data distribution. To overcome these problems, a hybrid system Multi-Layer Perceptron (MLP) approach with Gated Recurrent Units (GRU) is proposed in this work. The proposed hybrid system is applied to analyze and solve electricity theft using data from the Chinese National Grid Corporation (CNGC). In the proposed hybrid system, first, preprocess the data; second, balance the data using the k-means Synthetic Minority Oversampling Technique (SMOTE) technique; third, apply the GTU model to the extracted purified data; fourth, apply the MLP model to the extracted purified data; and finally, evaluate the performance of the proposed system using different performance measures such as graphical analysis and a statistical test. To verify the consistency of our proposed hybrid system, we use three different ratios for training and testing the dataset. The outcomes show that the proposed hybrid system for ETD is highly accurate and efficient compared to the other models like Alexnet, GRU, Bidirectional Gated Recurrent Unit (BGRU) and Recurrent Neural Network (RNN).

Carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions continue to rise globally despite efforts to combat climate change. Energy industry emissions are a pressing global issue, causing devastating impacts. Hence, it is vital to accurately and efficiently forecast CO2 emissions. Thus, this study comprehensively analyzes forecasting CO2 emissions by comparing various hybrid combinations of regression and time series methods to explore the CO2 emissions in Pakistan. First, divide the yearly time series of CO2 emissions into the long-run curve trend series and the residual subseries. The long-run curve trend subseries is modeled using parametric and nonparametric regression methods, while various standard time series models are used to forecast the residual subseries. However, the forecasts of each subseries will be combined to obtain the final forecast of CO2 emissions. This work used four different accuracy mean errors, a statistical test, and a graphical analysis as performance measures to evaluate the proposed hybrid forecasting technique. The findings confirmed that the proposed hybrid combination forecasting technique is highly accurate and efficient in forecasting CO2 emissions. Likewise, according to the proposed final optimal hybrid combination forecasting model, Pakistan's per capita CO2 emissions will be 1.130215 metric tons in 2030. Pakistan's escalating emission trend signals that creative solutions must be implemented to curb it. Thus, the government must price carbon footprints, regulate electricity from zero-carbon sources, reduce population, encourage afforestation in densely populated areas, adopt clean technology, and fund research.

In the modern world, new technologies such as artificial intelligence, machine learning, and big data are essential to support healthcare surveillance systems, especially for monitoring confirmed cases of monkeypox. The statistics of infected and uninfected people worldwide contribute to the growing number of publicly available datasets that can be used to predict early-stage confirmed cases of monkeypox through machine-learning models. Thus, this paper proposes a novel filtering and combination technique for accurate short-term forecasts of infected monkeypox cases. To this end, we first filter the original time series of the cumulative confirmed cases into two new subseries: the long-term trend series and residual series, using the two proposed and one benchmark filter. Then, we predict the filtered subseries using five standard machine learning models and all their possible combination models. Hence, we combine individual forecasting models directly to obtain a final forecast for newly infected cases one day ahead. Four mean errors and a statistical test are performed to verify the proposed methodology’s performance. The experimental results show the efficiency and accuracy of the proposed forecasting methodology. To prove the superiority of the proposed approach, four different time series and five different machine learning models were included as benchmarks. The results of this comparison confirmed the dominance of the proposed method. Finally, based on the best combination model, we achieved a forecast of fourteen days (two weeks). This can help to understand the spread and lead to an understanding of the risk, which can be utilized to prevent further spread and enable timely and effective treatment.

Traders and investors find predicting stock market values an intriguing subject to study in stock exchange markets. Accurate projections lead to high financial revenues and protect investors from market risks. This research proposes a unique filtering-combination approach to increase forecast accuracy. The first step is to filter the original series of stock market prices into two new series, consisting of a nonlinear trend series in the long run and a stochastic component of a series, using the Hodrick-Prescott filter. Next, all possible filtered combination models are considered to get the forecasts of each filtered series with linear and nonlinear time series forecasting models. Then, the forecast results of each filtered series are combined to extract the final forecasts. The proposed filtering-combination technique is applied to Pakistan's daily stock market price index data from January 2, 2013 to February 17, 2023. To assess the proposed forecasting methodology's performance in terms of model consistency, efficiency and accuracy, we analyze models in different data set ratios and calculate four mean errors, correlation coefficients and directional mean accuracy. Last, the authors recommend testing the proposed filtering-combination approach for additional complicated financial time series data in the future to achieve highly accurate, efficient and consistent forecasts.

The rise in global ozone levels over the last few decades has harmed human health. This problem exists in several cities throughout South America due to dangerous levels of particulate matter in the air, particularly during the winter season, making it a public health issue. Lima, Peru, is one of the ten cities in South America with the worst levels of air pollution. Thus, efficient and precise modeling and forecasting are critical for ozone concentrations in Lima. The focus is on developing precise forecasting models to anticipate ozone concentrations, providing timely information for adequate public health protection and environmental management. This work used hourly O$ _{3} $ data in metropolitan areas for multi-step-ahead (one-, two-, three-, and seven-day-ahead) O$ _{3} $ forecasts. A multiple linear regression model was used to represent the deterministic portion, and four-time series models, autoregressive, nonparametric autoregressive, autoregressive moving average, and nonlinear neural network autoregressive, were used to describe the stochastic component. The various horizon out-of-sample forecast results for the considered data suggest that the proposed component-based forecasting technique gives a highly consistent, accurate, and efficient gain. This may be expanded to other districts of Lima, different regions of Peru, and even the global level to assess the efficacy of the proposed component-based modeling and forecasting approach. Finally, no analysis has been undertaken using a component-based estimation to forecast ozone concentrations in Lima in a multi-step-ahead manner.
