The use of hydrogen as fuel presents many safety challenges due to its flammability and explosive nature, combined with its lack of color, taste, and odor. The purpose of this paper is to present an electrochemical sensor that can achieve rapid and accurate detection of hydrogen leakage. This paper presents both the component elements of the sensor, like sensing material, sensing element, and signal conditioning, as well as the electronic protection and signaling module of the critical concentrations of H2. The sensing material consists of a catalyst type Vulcan XC72 40% Pt, from FuelCellStore, (Bryan, TX, USA). The sensing element is based on a membrane electrode assembly (MEA) system that includes a cathode electrode, an ion-conducting membrane type Nafion 117, from FuelCellStore, (Bryan, TX, USA). and an anode electrode mounted in a coin cell type CR2016, from Xiamen Tob New Energy Technology Co., Ltd, (Xiamen City, Fujian Province, China). The electronic block for electrical signal conditioning, which is delivered by the sensing element, uses an INA111, from Burr-Brown by Texas Instruments Corporation, (Dallas, TX, USA). instrumentation operational amplifier. The main characteristics of the electrochemical sensor for hydrogen leakage detection are operation at room temperature so it does not require a heater, maximum amperometric response time of 1 s, fast recovery time of maximum 1 s, and extended range of hydrogen concentrations detection in a range of up to 20%.

This paper focuses on hybrid piezo–electromagnetic generators, which are assembled from a magnetic repulsion pad made of two disk magnets, a sliding cylindrical magnet placed inside a tube, a coil, and an assembly of piezoelectric elements connected with the magnetic pad, as well as an electronic system for rectification and voltage adjustment. Four piezo–electromagnetic generators have been developed. Two linear generators without magnetic cores were tested and optimized for low-frequency (0.2 Hz…5 Hz) and low-amplitude body movements. The other two generators were also designed to handle high-vibration amplitudes, to generate up to 2.2–2.5 W of power. An algorithm for the calculation and modeling of these hybrid generators is presented, as well as simulation models. In addition, an electronic hybrid voltage converter was realized. It was observed that the system harvesting efficiency was increased by adding a large capacitive buffer made of electrolytic capacitors after the Schottky diode rectifiers bridges. This capacitive buffer, together with the electronic pre-regulator, has the role of limiting the voltage to the desired input value and of being the first charging stage. Finally, in the second charging stage, an electronic converter is used to charge the supercapacitors.

The purpose of this study was to highlight a method of making equipment for the investigation of low frequency bioimpedance. A constant current with an average value of I = 100 µA is injected into the human body via means of current injection electrodes, and the biological signal is taken from the electrodes of electric potential charged with the biopotentials generated by the human body. The resulting voltage, ΔU is processed by the electronic conditioning system. The mathematical model of the four-electrode system in contact with the skin, and considering a target organ, was simplified to a single equivalent impedance. The capacitive filter low passes down from the differential input of the first instrumentation amplifier together with the isolated capacitive barrier integrated in the precision isolated secondary amplifier and maintains the biological signal taken from the electrodes charged with the undistorted biopotentials generated by the human body. Mass loops are avoided, and any electric shocks or electrostatic discharges are prevented. In addition, for small amplitudes of the biological signal, electromagnetic interferences of below 100 Hz of the power supply network were eliminated by using an active fourth-order Bessel filtering module. The measurements performed for the low frequency of f = 100 Hz on the volunteers showed for the investigated organs that the bioelectrical resistivities vary from 90 Ωcm up to 450 Ωcm, and that these are in agreement with other published and disseminated results for each body zone.

In this paper, a modular electromagnetic transducer that achieves the optimal transfer of energy from the electric and/or magnetic fields is proposed. Both the magnetic field resonance coupling and the influence of the electric field near the copper transducers of the printed circuit board and inside the FR4-type epoxy material are considered. In our printed arrays of flat transducers, we consider face-to-face capacitances for the study of resonance coupling. Because the space between coil turns is almost double the plate thickness, the coplanar capacitance can be ignored for frequencies under 2 MHz. A radio frequency (RF) transmitter and transducer were built to demonstrate the increased energy transfer efficiency when using both electric and magnetic fields in the near-field region. The transversal leakage flux coupling of a long RF coil was more efficient than a simple axial magnetic field coupling when using pancake transceiver coils. The optimal configuration having one long coil at the base and two or more flat coils as capacitor plates near coil ends generated the highest tandem of magnetic and electrical fields. A power regression tool was used to convert and simplify the transducer current and voltage variation with distance. In this regard, the current change corresponded to magnetic field variation and the voltage change to the electric field variation. New formulas for estimating the near-field region and the self-capacitance of the RF transformer coil are proposed; the optimal function in the frequency domain for a given transducer distance was defined by simulation.

This paper presents an experimental approach to maximizing the voltage generated by NaxCoO2 and improving the overall efficiency of the p-type thermoelectric leg by doping with Na up to x = 0.88. Two samples with different geometries were tested, each measured with and without an additional magnetic field applied in the direction of the temperature gradient. The properties of sodium cobaltite in response to hydration were explored, at temperatures between 300 and 380 K. Water injection boosted the current and power up to 75–100 µW at a temperature of 350–360 K. This power boost can be attributed to an electron-ion fluid flow pattern maintained by the longitudinal thermomagnetic effect and by water molecules forming hydrogen bonds with oxygen atoms in the CoO2 layers, inside the material. An electronic circuit was designed to boost the voltage to the desired level, for three or more sodium cobaltite samples mounted in parallel, and to store the energy in a supercapacitor. The output voltage and resistivity change of sodium cobaltite samples can be readily used as a humidity and temperature-sensing element in a transducer when paired with an appropriate electronic conditioning scheme.

A microactuation process was developed with the help of four coils that generate a pulsatory rotating magnetic field. A small actuator stator, which contains a 46 mm acrylonitrile butadiene styrene (ABS) opened box and four coils with E-type ferrite cores, was constructed. Simulations were made for different Duty Cycles, 0.2, 0.5, 0.72 and 0.9, and distances above the E cores, between 0.01 and 6 mm. These simulations determined the magnetic bubble inflating distance, the saturation regions and the average forces that are responsible for nanofluid flow inside the ABS box. An electrical driving scheme was designed, and a drive was constructed to activate four inductive loads that generate a pulsatory rotating magnetic field. The electronic drive can change the actuation frequency (rotation speed) between 1 Hz and 25 Hz and can adjust the Duty Cycle between 5% and 95% (driving force). From simulations and experiments, it was observed that the Duty Cycle must be limited to 0.7 to avoid the magnetic nanofluid saturation at 45 mT. It was found that three applications use a pulsatory rotating magnetic field: a small motor, a small flat pump and a manipulating sheet matrix for displays or chemical droplets mixing.
