The increasing Electric Vehicle (EV) market is driven by the desire for more efficient and reliable approaches to recharge EV batteries. Among various charging methodologies for EVs, Wireless Power Transfer (WPT) has gained more attention from EV users due to its features such as safety, low maintenance, comfort, automated operation, and reliability. The innovative WPT method replaces the conductive charging system while maintaining a similar power rating and efficiency. Numerous strategies have been devised to enhance the efficiency and reliability of the WPT model. The primary challenge in WPT is reduction in power transfer efficiency (PTE) as the gap between the coils is increased. Also, the improvement in the PTE depends on various design parameters of the WPT circuit. Therefore, this review article thoroughly investigates recent significant research literatures that explains WPT technology and tailored towards enhancement of PTE. The investigation is carried on various coil configurations, converter topologies and different critical factors to improve PTE such as impedance matching, compensation techniques. Moreover, the research gaps in WPT technology and future scope suitable for static, quasi-dynamic, and dynamic charging methods are presented. This research can play a crucial role in assisting developers in selecting an optimal design to enhance the WPT system.

Electric vehicles (EVs) are considered as the leading-edge form of mobility. However, the integration of electric vehicles with charging stations is a contentious issue. Managing the available grid power and bus voltage regulation is addressed through renewable energy. This work proposes a grid-connected photovoltaic (PV)-powered EV charging station with converter control technique. The controller unit is interfaced with the renewable energy source, bidirectional converter, and local energy storage unit (ESU). The bidirectional converter provides a regulated output with a fuzzy logic controller (FLC) during charging and discharging. The fuzzy control is implemented to maintain a decentralized power distribution between the microgrid DC-link and ESU. The PV coupled to the DC microgrid of the charging station is variable in nature. Hence, the microgrid-based charging is examined under a range of realistic scenarios, including low, total PV power output and different state of charge (SOC) levels of ESU. In order to accomplish the effective charging of EV, a decentralized energy management system is created to control the energy flow among the PV system, the battery, and the grid. The proposed controller’s effectiveness is validated using a simulation have been analyzed using MATLAB under various microgrid situations. Additionally, the experimental results are validated under various modes of operation.

The growth of Electric Vehicle (EV) technologies necessitates adequate charging infrastructure and energy storage systems for reliable operation. Conversely, vehicle-to-grid, vehicle-to-home, and vehicle-to-vehicle (V2V) technologies are being researched to enhance EV usage. V2V technology can assist EV users with convenient power sharing during emergencies. However, the conventional plug-in approach limits safety and human intervention aspects. Recent advancements in wireless power transfer (WPT) offer both convenience and reliable power exchange, making them the most suitable approach for V2V technology. WPT is a loosely coupled system, and the air gap increases leakage inductance, which weakens the coupling factor (K) and affects power transfer efficiency (PTE). In this article, the enhancement of the coupling factor is achieved by employing a reconfigurable coil between the Transmitter (Tx) coil and the Receiver (Rx) coil. This reconfigurable coil functions as a resonator, enhancing the flux generated by the Tx coil and improving PTE. Furthermore, the proposed system facilitates bidirectional power flow between two EVs. The phase shift control technique regulates the power flow between the two EVs. Improved efficient WPT conserves energy and reduces the reliance on energy storage devices. The proposed WPT system is validated with a 500W prototype model and realized efficiency of 92.6 % in aligned condition and 86.6% at 40% lateral misaligned condition.

The optimal power transfer efficiency in wireless power transfer systems for Electrical Vehicle charging primarily depends on charging coupler’s physical alignment. However, misalignment is inevitable, especially lateral misalignment is common with wireless EV charging. This article introduces a simple strategy to address lateral misalignments using three Giant Magneto Resistance sensors. The primary coil’s magnetic field induces a current in secondary coil due to mutual induction between them, which modulates the primary coil’s magnetic field distribution, Giant Magneto Resistance sensors placed on the transmitter pad continuously senses these changes and accomplish the maximum power point tracking. Additionally proposed an algorithm which determines the direction and magnitude of the transmitter coil’s displacement using an Automatic Coil Alignment System made with mechanical setup, gears and stepper motors. The Giant Magneto Resistance sensors produce identical output only when the coils are perfectly aligned. A prototype was built and tested, demonstrating that the driving system can align the transmitter coil accurately based on the misalignment factors provided by the algorithm and Giant Magneto Resistance sensor outputs. This new system maintains constant efficiency of 91.3 % even with 45 % misalignment without modifications to the vehicle’s charging system.

Electric vehicle (EV) is the most widely impacting technology in the immediate future in road transportation. The EVs at the charging station have to wait for a significant amount of time for their recharge. For the solution of this, EV battery parameters are monitored and Batteries swapped in the upcoming charging station. In this regards the battery parameters are monitored; the EV battery is connected to the server for monitoring the health of the battery and the corresponding parameters are stored in the server. The server notifies to the driver about the upcoming charging station, mileage limits and the battery condition. The proposed work discusses the battery parameters required for swapping like state of charge (SOC), State of Health (SOH), and temperature estimated. This research work is implemented in real time EV using an Internet of Things (IoT). The real-time EV parameters are monitored through IoT stored in the cloud.
