The solar PV based power generation systems are growing faster due to the depletion of fossil fuels and environmental concerns. Combining PV panels and energy buffers such as battery through multi-port converter is one of the viable solutions to deal with the intermittency of PV power. The goal of this paper is to design and analyze the proposed triple port DC-DC buck-boost converter for high step-up/step-down applications. It has two unidirectional ports (port-1 and port-3) and one bi-directional port (port-2) for harnessing photovoltaic energy and charging the battery. At port-1, the combined structure of buck and buck-boost converter is used with a particular arrangement of switches and inductors. The step-up/step-down voltage conversion ratio is higher than the conventional buck-boost converter, and the polarity of the output voltage is maintained positive. The battery is added at the bi-directional port, for the storage of energy through the bi-directional boost converter. The switches operate synchronously for most of the modes making the control strategy simple. The characteristics and modes of operation along with a switching strategy, are elaborated. Experimental results are presented which validate the agreement with the developed theoretical expectation.

Electric vehicles (EVs) are considered as the leading-edge form of mobility. However, the integration of electric vehicles with charging stations is a contentious issue. Managing the available grid power and bus voltage regulation is addressed through renewable energy. This work proposes a grid-connected photovoltaic (PV)-powered EV charging station with converter control technique. The controller unit is interfaced with the renewable energy source, bidirectional converter, and local energy storage unit (ESU). The bidirectional converter provides a regulated output with a fuzzy logic controller (FLC) during charging and discharging. The fuzzy control is implemented to maintain a decentralized power distribution between the microgrid DC-link and ESU. The PV coupled to the DC microgrid of the charging station is variable in nature. Hence, the microgrid-based charging is examined under a range of realistic scenarios, including low, total PV power output and different state of charge (SOC) levels of ESU. In order to accomplish the effective charging of EV, a decentralized energy management system is created to control the energy flow among the PV system, the battery, and the grid. The proposed controller’s effectiveness is validated using a simulation have been analyzed using MATLAB under various microgrid situations. Additionally, the experimental results are validated under various modes of operation.

Electric vehicles (EVs) penetrating the transportation sector are accelerated through environmental concerns, low prices, and increased power density. At the same time, the technologies for wireless charging of EVs are advancing due to their convenience, cost-effectiveness, and reliability as charging solutions. The crucial part of Wireless EV (W-EV) chargers, apart from charging pads and compensation, is the power electronics converters. These converters are essential for converting electrical energy into an appropriate form for efficient transmission and reception. This article provides a comprehensive review of the recent advancements in power converter topologies and their control methods used in W-EV chargers. Depending on the specific requirements of the W-EV charger, these converters can be classified into DC-DC, DC-AC, AC-AC, and AC-DC converters. In addition, the article explores specialized converters such as multiple-stage, multiple-phase, multiple transmitter and multiple receiver-based converters, discussing their technical details, merits and limitations. The control techniques for the power electronics converters utilised in W-EV chargers such as transmitter-side control, receiver-side control and dual controls are presented along with various technical comparative analyses. Challenges and future research directions in advanced power converter topologies for W-EV chargers are outlined at last. This article assists researchers in gaining insights into the recent technological advancements and developments aimed at enhancing the performance of the W-EV charger.

A nonisolated three-port DC–DC converter based on Cuk topology (NI-TPC) to handle the renewable sources (RS) is proposed in this paper. This converter includes two unidirectional input ports accommodating both a fuel cell (FC) and photovoltaic (PV) cell; and one output port with DC load. Due to the inductors at all the ports, it claims the advantage of continuous input and output currents. Additionally, it uses less number of switches, diodes and inductors compared with conventional ‘n-1’ separate Cuk converters. Synthesis procedure for a generalized n-port DC–DC structure is explained. The derivation law based on conventional Cuk converter, operating principle, design calculation, and analysis are presented in detail, and then the analysis is validated through simulation and a 100W prototype, verifying the performance of the proposed NI-TPC converter.

This work aims to study the compensation techniques used in wireless power transfer for Electric Vehicle (EV) charging application. Though there are several topologies for wireless power conversion Dual Active Bridge (DAB) configuration, better suits with wireless power transfer for its bidirectionality, high power density, ease of implementation and so on. Compensation network enhances the performance of the DAB in providing the constant current (CC) or constant voltage (CV) according to the battery charging status. This paper details the study on the performance of LCC-LCC topology and LCC- S topologies. The design values of magnetic elements of the compensation network are calculated analytically. The LCC-LCC and LCC- S compensations implementation in DAB converter is simulated in MATLAB/Simulink. The results were obtained and compared with the symmetrical LCC and LCC- S compensation on the factors of efficiency, output power, transmitter current and receiver current.
