This article introduces a new statistical distribution called the power unit Burr-XII distribution, which is an extension of the Burr XII distribution obtained through a power transform. This paper investigates several statistical properties of this new model, including mode, moments, moment generating and characteristic functions, entropy, and Bonferroni and Lorenz curves. In addition, various classical estimators for the parameters of the power unit Burr-XII distribution are evaluated, including maximum likelihood estimates, ordinary least squares estimates, maximum product of interval estimates, Anderson–Darling, right and left tail Anderson–Darling, and Cramer–von Mises estimators. This study provides tables and graphs to illustrate the performance of these methods under different scenarios and sample sizes. The results of the proposed distribution in different fields of application are shown using the mortality rates of COVID-19 patients in Spain and flood data from 20 observations. As a result of both applications, it was observed that the proposed distribution gave better results compared to other well-known distributions, such as the beta distribution, transformed gamma distribution, log-weighted power distribution, transmuted power distribution, Kumaraswamy distribution, Topp–Leone distribution, exponentiated reduce Kies distribution, and exponentiated Topp–Leone distribution.

Quality assurance in higher education is of critical importance in terms of increasing the competitiveness of institutions as well as creating trust in students, academics and society. This study examines the Institutional Internal Evaluation Reports of 19 state universities that have received full accreditation by the Higher Education Quality Board in Turkey until February 2025 using the content analysis method. The study aims to determine the strengths, common practices and areas of development regarding the quality assurance systems of universities. The findings show that action plans, stakeholder participation and strategic planning have become widespread in quality management processes; however, differences between institutions continue in monitoring process documents, ISO standards, digitalization and social contribution activities. Exemplary practices have been encountered, especially in terms of the integration of leadership, governance and student support mechanisms into quality processes. As a result, it has been determined that the full accreditation process contributes to the institutionalization of quality culture; however, more inclusive, digital and stakeholder-focused approaches are needed for the sustainability of this process.

The Covid-19 pandemic, which has been affecting the world since December 2019, has become one of the biggest problems of the 21st century. There are studies stating that the contagiousness of the Covid-19 pandemic, which is transmitted from person to person, increases more with environmental factors such as air pollution, and accordingly, there is an increase in the number of cases. In this study, a panel regression model to investigate the effect of air pollution concentrations such as PM10 and SO2 as environmental factors and population density on the monthly mean number of Covid-19 cases for 12 regions at the nomenclature of territorial units for statistics (NUTS) level 1 in Turkey between June 2020 and November 2020, and a linear regression model to investigate the effect at the regional level. we used. Based on the model results, we concluded that a small increase in air pollution indicators led to an increase in the number of Covid-19 cases in Turkey and its regions. It is very important to identify preventable environmental factors in order to prevent and minimize the effects of respiratory tract diseases and rapidly spreading pandemic diseases such as Covid-19. Accordingly, we can conclude that countries should take some measures, especially on air pollution, in order to develop public health and pandemic/disease management strategies and to reduce the risk of respiratory diseases.

In order to model the income data, the physical distributions of Fermi-Dirac and Bose-Einstein families have already been proposed in the literature. In this study, we generalize Fermi-Dirac distribution by using a q,p-deformed version of Fermi-Dirac distribution which provides the advantage of working with flexible free q, p deformation parameters as the regression parameters for modeling the income data. We analyze the accuracy of the generalized version, q,p-deformed Fermi-Dirac distribution, on describing the data of income share held by quintiles for countries, and household income for the states of U.S.A. in 2018. We also use χ2 minimization routine for modeling the data which leads to the best fit parameters for the deformation parameters q and p. Subsequently, we plot the fitted q,p-deformed Fermi-Dirac distribution as income distribution with the obtained deformation parameters, then find the statistical confidence values r2 from the fitted curve. We figure out that our model properly describes the income data for the systems experiencing a high level of income inequality, and also r2 values are correlated with the Gini index for those of considered systems.

Although longitudinal and survival data are collected in the same study, they are usually analyzed separately. Measurement errors and missing data problems arise because of separate analysis of these two data. Therefore, joint model should be used instead of separate analysis. The standard joint model frequently used in the literature is obtained by combining the linear mixed effect model of longitudinal data and Cox regression model with survival data. Nevertheless, to use the Cox regression model for survival data, the assumption of proportional hazards must be provided. Parametric survival sub-models should be used instead of the Cox regression model for the survival sub-model of the JM where the assumption is not provided. In this article, parametric joint modeling of longitudinal data and survival data that do not provide the assumption of proportional hazards are investigated. For the survival data, the model with Exponential, Weibull, Log-normal, Log-logistic, and Gamma accelerated failure time models and the linear mixed effect model are combined with random effects and the models were applied in primary biliary cirrhosis data set obtained from Mayo Clinic. After determining the best parametric joint model according to Akaike and Bayesian information criterions, the best available model was compared with standard joint model and of separate analysis of survival data and longitudinal data. As a results, in the studies where longitudinal and survival data are obtained together, it is seen that the parametric joint model gives more better results than the standard joint model when the proportional hazard assumption is not provided.
