As global populations continue to undergo demographic aging, the role of caregivers in providing essential support and assistance to older adults has become increasingly prominent. This demographic shift has led to a growing reliance on informal caregivers, often family members, who take on the responsibilities of caring for older adults. This not only affects immediate family dynamics but also holds broader implications for societal sustainability. The primary objective of this bibliometric analysis is to comprehensively examine the worldwide research output related to the quality of life and caregiver burden among individuals providing care to older adults. By understanding the worldwide research output related to caregivers and their quality of life and burden, we can assess the long-term sustainability of caregiving practices. We retrieved studies with titles containing the terms “caregivers”, “burden”, “quality of life”, and “aged” from the Web of Science (WOS) database. The collected publications were then subjected to analysis using the “bibliometric” package in the R programming environment. A total of 44 publications from 2006–2023 were included in the analysis. Spain emerged as the leading contributor in terms of the number of publications, accounting for 21.9%, followed by the USA at 16.5% and China at 13.6%. The most prolific institution was Kaohsiung Medical University, Taiwan, responsible for 25% of the publications. Among the authors, Cura-Gonzalez I.D. had the highest number of articles, contributing four publications, or 9.1% of the total output. An analysis of co-occurring keywords revealed that the predominant focus of the research revolved around caregiver burden, quality of life, health, care, stress, and impact, reflecting enduring areas of interest within this field. This bibliometric analysis may serve as a tool to provide insights into the current state of research on caregiver burden and quality of life among those caring for older adults. The results of this study can contribute to the assessment of research strategies and the encouragement of global cooperation in the field of care for older adults. By considering the multidimensional nature of caregiving challenges and promoting international cooperation, strides can be made towards sustainable caregiving practices that ensure the wellbeing of both caregivers and the aging population, thus safeguarding the sustainability of healthcare systems worldwide.

The demand for informal caregivers to support the older adults has grown worldwide in recent decades. However, informal caregivers themselves require support. This article aims to examine existing support measures for caregivers of the older adults in the Republic of Kazakhstan. Relevant articles and grey literature were identified through manual searches on Google and Google Scholar, as well as electronic searches using indexed databases like PubMed, Web of Science, and Scopus. Moreover, the reference lists of identified sources and government ministry websites were meticulously scrutinized. This review highlights the scarcity of research on caregiver support measures in Kazakhstan, supported by the lack of peer-reviewed articles on this subject. A comprehensive analysis of the literature shows that in Kazakhstan’s legislative framework, “caregivers” exclusively refers to individuals providing care for a first-degree disability. The responsibility of caring for older adults parents lies with able-bodied children. However, there is a lack of registration and assessment procedures to evaluate the burden and quality of life of caregivers. As a result, the medical and social support provided to caregivers is standardized, failing to adequately address their unique needs and requirements. The analysis of current support measures for informal caregivers highlights the need to develop support mechanisms and recognize individuals providing informal care as key figures in the long-term care system.

Background: The growing population of older adults, often affected by chronic illnesses, disabilities, or frailty has led to a substantial increase in the need for informal caregivers. Objective: This paper is a protocol for a study that aims to investigate the effects of caregiving on informal caregivers of older adults in Kazakhstan with special emphasis on the cultural context. Methods: The protocol outlines a mixed-methods study that will be conducted in four cities in Kazakhstan. A total of 400 informal caregivers of older adults with two or more limitations in Activities of Daily Living (ADL) will be recruited to participate in a survey, aiming to evaluate care-related burdens and quality of life and health-related quality of life. The Institute for Medical Technology Assessment (iMTA) Valuation of Informal Care Questionnaire (iVICQ) was selected to be the main research instrument. Additionally, a subset of participants who express their willingness to participate will be selected from the pool of survey respondents to engage in semi-structured interviews, allowing for a deeper understanding of their experiences and providing insights into their social and medical support needs. Conclusion: This study will be the first investigation of the impact of caregiving on informal caregivers of older adults in Central Asia. The results will contribute to the literature by providing insights into older adults care within the specific national and cultural context of Kazakhstan with potential generalization to other Central Asian republics of the former USSR.

To comprehensively understand of the informal caregiving experience, it is essential to conduct an in-depth investigation into the caregiving context, including gender, family dynamics, and the caregiver's cultural background. Among these factors, considerable research attention has been dedicated to examining the impact of gender on caregiving. The objective of this study is to scrutinize studies that explore the association between informal care and the well-being of caregivers, with a particular focus on gender disparities within the caregiving domain. A systematic literature retrieval was conducted by querying the Medline, Scopus, and Web of Science databases. The search strategy incorporated specific Medical Subject Headings (MeSH) terms, including "informal care", "caregiver", "health problems", "employment difficulties", "social problems", "gender", and "gender disparities". Earlier investigations into gender distinctions among caregivers for older adults have demonstrated a predominance of female caregivers, disparities in caregiving experiences, mental and physical health-related challenges, time allocation dedicated to caregiving, exposure to unpaid labor, inequalities in the distribution of unpaid work, caregiving responsibilities, and economic implications, including disparities in remuneration and pension entitlements. To promote gender equality and achieve a balance between family and work responsibilities for both men and women, there is a need to redistribute informal caregiving tasks between genders and between family and government entities. Key policy measures to address gender disparities in the provision of home care services at a national level can be grouped into four main categories: improving the quality, accessibility, and availability of long-term care; including gender considerations in the design and implementation of family leave policies and flexible work arrangements; removing economic barriers for caregivers' employment; and challenging traditional gender roles and stereotypes.

In January 2022 Kazakhstan experienced unprecedented nationwide protests that quickly turned to violent riots. Although the number of individuals affected physically by the disturbances were cited, the emotional toll of the events remains undetermined. The aim of this study was to evaluate the comparative rates of acute stress reactions in Kazakhstan in the aftermath of the unrests. A cross-sectional, population-based online survey was conducted one month after the start of the disturbances. The study questionnaire were completed anonymously and included the Primary Care PTSD Screen for DSM-5 (PC-PTSD-5) and the General Anxiety Disorder-7 (GAD-7), as well as socio-demographic and event exposure information. Of the 7021 people who initially agreed to participate, 6510 were able to complete the full survey. For a cut-off of ≥3 on the PC-PTSD-5, 14.8 % of the study participants exhibited symptoms. With a cut-off of ≥4, this percentage reduced to 4.6 %. Participants from Almaty city and Almaty region who experienced the most extensive disturbances showed a doubled prevalence compared to the national level (30.0 % for a cut-off of ≥3, and 10.1 % for a cut-off of ≥4). At the national level, the prevalence of anxiety symptoms, defined as a score of ≥10 on the GAD-7, stood at 10.9 %. This prevalence decreased to 4.2 % when considering a cut-off of ≥15. Health authorities of riot-affected areas ought to be aware of the population level mental health impact of the civil conflict and consider provision of targeted interventions to mitigate the long-term consequence of these lifespan disorders, while also seeking for the peaceful resolution of the ensuing conflicts.

The prevalence of T2DM has been increasing dramatically over recent decades, about 537 million people in 2021. LADA type diabetes, a subtype of diabetes that exhibits characteristics of both T2DM and autoimmune beta‐cell destruction similar to T1DM, but with a later onset. The aim of this study is to analyze the main research field on LADA type, including analysis of countries, institutions, journals, authors, and keywords. This research utilized a descriptive bibliometric design. We collected and analyzed data from 672 publications indexed in the Web of Science and Scopus databases, covering the period from 1994 to January 2024. The bibliometric analysis included English‐language research articles that involved studies on patients with LADA type diabetes, aged 18 years or older. RStudio and the Bibliometrix R package were used for data merging and for performing statistical and visual analyses. The annual publication shows an upward trend over the period, with the highest number of publications per year in 2021. The study showed that China leads in the number of articles, with 101 papers published. The United Kingdom demonstrates significant international collaborations, particularly with Germany. The top institutions in terms of the number of published articles are the Norwegian University of Science and Technology in the Kingdom of Norway, followed by the Central South University in China. Tuomi has shown significant long‐term publication impact, while Zhou ranks among the most frequently cited authors. Diabetes Care is one of the most important scientific journals in diabetology with the highest impact factor of 16.2. This abstract summarizes a comprehensive bibliometric analysis that provides insights into the global research field of LADA type, underscoring the importance of international collaboration and the significant contributions of leading countries and institutions in shaping our understanding of this complex subtype of diabetes.
