This study evaluates naproxen (NP) degradation efficiency by ozonation using nickel oxide films (NiO(F)) as a catalyst. The NiO films were synthesized by chemical vapor deposition and characterized by X-ray diffraction, scanning electron microscopy, atomic force microscopy and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy. NP degradation was conducted for 5 min using 10 films of NiO(F) comparing against ozonation using 100 mg/L NiO powder in suspension (NiO(S)) and conventional ozonation (O3-conv). Total organic carbon analysis demonstrated a mineralization degree of 12% with O3-conv, 35% with NiO as powder and 22% with NiO(F) after 60 min of reaction. The films of NiO(F) were sequentially used 4 times in ozonation demonstrating the stability of the synthesized material, as well as its properties as a catalyst for ozonation. A proposed modeling strategy using robust parametric identification techniques allows the comparison of NP decomposition pseudo-monomolecular reaction rates.

This work proposes the use of albedo of orange peel in generation of carbon for applications in supercapacitors. For this, a comparison of compositional and electrochemical properties present in the carbons obtained of albedo, flavedo, and the complete orange peel was carried out. The morphology and composition of carbons obtained were analyzed by Field Emission Scanning Electron Microscopy (FESEM), Energy Dispersive X-ray (EDX), X-Ray Diffraction (XRD), and Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR). The synthetized carbons were not subjected to the activation process by chemical compounds to relate only the properties of orange peel parts with their electrochemical behaviour. All samples were tested by cyclic voltammetry (CV) and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS). The carbon obtained of albedo presented a superior specific capacitance (210 F/g) of the rest samples. The value of albedo-based carbon capacitance is comparable with works presented in the literature that used a whole orange peel with chemical activators. In this way, it is possible to obtain large capacitances using only a part of orange peel (albedo). Thus, the importance of this study is that the albedo can be proposed as a material applied to electrodes for supercapacitors while the flavedo can be used in food industry or for oil extraction.

ATO thin films have been successfully prepared by the spin coating method using an ethanol solution of SnCl4∙5H2O and SbCl3 using acetylacetone as hydrolysis modifier. ATO films from 1 to 6 layers were prepared at 300 °C as densification temperature and within an annealing temperature ranging from 450 °C to 750 °C. Films exhibited the cassiterite crystalline phase and morphology consisted in nanoparticles of about 10 nm in diameter. Acetylacetone content as well the addition of water affected the particle size and morphology, decreasing particle size and the appearance of voids. Films prepared at an acetylacetone ratio of 4 with no addition of water exhibited an optical transparency above 90% from 380 to 800 nm while resistivity was 7.99 x10-3 Ω∙cm. The effect of the hydrolysis modifier on the electric properties, morphology, optical transparency and microstructure has been studied
