This study presents a bibliometric analysis of sustainable tourism management using the VOSviewer tool. It aims to fill the bibliometric gap in the growing body of research on sustainable tourism management and, consequently, contribute to recent scholarly interest in this subject. Therefore, its main objective is to present a qualitative and quantitative analysis of the research published on sustainable tourism management from 1996 to April 2023, which enables its scientific production. To this end, we used a total of 317 publications with 7475 cited references from Web of Science. In addition, we performed three bibliometric analyses (co-authorship, co-citation and co-occurrence of keywords). The results show the current trends in sustainable tourism management and also provide a theoretical basis regarding this subject, which is of growing importance in the tourism sector. Our study’s conclusions suggest that the priorities of sustainable tourism management are shifting from competitiveness to sustainability, in accordance with new consumer demands and the 2030 Agenda. In conclusion, a broader framework of sustainable tourism management is required.
Purpose: The main objective of this article is to visualize the structure and trends of pro-environmental behavior (PEB) between 1999 and 2023 through mapping and in-depth analysis. The aim is to analyze PEB, which has received considerable academic attention in recent years due to its key role in the conservation of the environment and the protection of local communities in tourist destinations. This paper provides an important summary of the recent research that has explored the role that tourists have in protecting the environment through PEB.Design/methodology/approach: This study presents a visual analysis of 2005 scholarly articles between the years 1999 and 2023 related to PEB. Using the knowledge mapping based on VOSviewer it presents the current status of research, which includes the analysis of citation analysis, co-citation analysis, co-citation network and longitudinal analysis.Findings: PEB is an emerging topic due to its relevance to protecting the environment in the context of travel. The citation and co-citation analysis show the relevance of the behavior of tourists with regard to protecting the environment. The co-word analysis highlights the current significance of research concerning green hotels and the destination image of environmentally responsible destinations.Originality/value: This study sheds light on the current research progress of PEB in the context of tourism through a comprehensive analysis (citation, co-citation and co-word). In addition, we provide theories and factors that have been previously used to study PEB in the context of tourism. The findings contribute to a broad and diverse understanding of the concept of PEB, which can provide important insights for policymakers in formulating management strategies and policies aimed at reducing environmental impacts in destinations.
Tourism co-creation has attracted a great deal of academic interest in recent years due to its important role in promoting the image and economic development of destinations. The emergence of new technologies has significantly changed the relationship between tourists and destinations. The main objective of this article is to visualise the structure and trends of tourism co-creation research between 2008 and 2024. Using mapping techniques, our study shows the relevance of research related to Tourism Experiences and New Technologies and, to a lesser extent, Service Domain Logic (SDL) for the period 2008 to 2024. However, three new research themes have emerged since 2016: Loyalty and Satisfaction, Hospitality and Coronavirus and Sharing Economy. The findings contribute to a broad and diverse understanding of the concept of value co-creation in the tourism industry, which can provide important insights for destination marketing organisations (DMOs) and policy makers in formulating management strategies to enhance destination branding and competitiveness.

The scientific literature regarding ethnocentrism is quite extensive in the fields of marketing, politics and psychology; however, in the realm of tourism it is barely mentioned and there is even less research. This study intends to fill the current bibliometric void in terms of the relationship between ethnocentrism and tourism. Its main goal is to display qualitative and quantitative analysis of ethnocentrism and tourism research from 1991 until September 2022, which enables an inventory of its scientific production. The results show the need for extensive intercultural research in order to obtain a more extensive view of tourist ethnocentrism.

Geotourism has attracted an increasing academic interest in recent years due to the new demands of society for sustainable and alternative destinations and its their effective management is essential. This study conducts a comprehensive bibliometric analysis of geotourism management covering research published from 1991 to June 2023. The objective of this study is to perform a bibliometric analysis to demonstrate the current research and key findings on geotourism management. In addition, we identify the existing limitations in the current literature to show research trends and future directions. To achieve this objective, we analysed 813 publications with 10,937 cited references from Web of Science. Our analysis encompassed three key bibliometric techniques (co-authorship, co-citation and co-occurrence of keywords). The main results show the increasing popularity and investigations in geotourism and destination management. Using mapping techniques, our study shows the relevance of research in geoconservation, sustainable tourism and, to a lesser extent, in geological heritage. The findings contribute to a broad and diverse understanding of the management of geotourism, which can provide insights for DMOs and policymakers in establishing proper management in geotourism to ensure conservation in geodestinations.
