The involvement application and use of crisis and emergency management and communication are increasing rapidly. This study conducts a systematic literature review to identify the development of theoretical models in the area of social media crisis communication and management. The study aims to review and analyse the relationship of social media-based crisis communication in the context of crisis informatics and its taxonomy and the related crisis communication theoretical models to derive the challenges and limitations. A total of 207 articles were selected for the evaluation based on quality, relevancy, and contribution. The findings revealed that the situational crisis communication theory (SCCT) is the most dominant theory, followed by social-mediated crisis communication (SMCC) and integrated crisis mapping (ICM) models. The study identified theories such as the STREMII model, social media crisis management matrix/framework (SMSMF), and an interactive crisis communication model (ICCM) as emerging models. Moreover, the result of the finding shows that stakeholder interaction is an understudied field, while information reliability and processing for decision-making purposes, the wider application of social media sites, privacy issues, and how social media interaction can improve community resilience or build stakeholders relationships remain suitable topics for future research.

Smart education and the sustainable development of smart campuses have drawn significant research attention. This is enabled by intelligent devices that are widely attracting massive applicability in personal and big business contexts and can increase efficiency and convenience. This paper aims to present a solution to address the lack of a proper adoption model for smart campus initiatives. The evaluation and synthesis of the literature were conducted by following the systematic literature review (SLR) procedure. The study’s findings revealed the taxonomy and IoT technologies leading to the wide adoption of IoT-based smart campuses. The technology adoption models and their corresponding variables help the authors identify and classify a suitable adoption framework for smart campuses. The limitations and challenges of adoption theories as they pertain to smart campuses are discussed. Finally, the study adapts perceived scalability, perceived replicability, perceived reliability, perceived privacy and security, perceived trust, the cost of deployment, usefulness, enjoyment, and technicality as adoption factors of sustainable smart campuses. This study offers practical and theoretical implications regarding the adoption and propagation of emerging smart campuses.

The advancement of technology is making university campuses smarter every single day. Despite the benefits of these advanced technologies, the literature concerning the adoption of smart campuses is significantly lacking increased knowledge to provide effective smart campus solutions. This study aims to prioritize the adoption factors of an IoT-based smart campus. The study applied an analytical hierarchical process (AHP) on 25 factors drawn from the literature. The factors were classified into technology specific factors (TSF), organizational specific factors (OSF), environmental specific factors (ESF), and end-user specific factors (USF). Based on the results obtained, the most significant contributing factors were government support, privacy concerns, social influence, facilitating conditions, and service collaboration, whereas the least significant contributing factors were enjoyment, availability, reliability, mobility, and compatibility. Moreover, based on the global ranking computation, 12 factors from the OSF, ESF, and USF categories appeared to be more significant than TSF. The findings of this study could help university administrators, manufacturers, and policy-makers to understand the critical factors of smart campuses in order to improve the adoption and utilization of these solutions effectively.

The end goal of technological advancement used in crisis response and recovery is to prevent, reduce or mitigate the impact of a crisis, thereby enhancing sustainable recovery. Advanced technological approaches such as social media, machine learning (ML), social network analysis (SNA), and big data are vital to a sustainable crisis management decisions and communication. This study selects 28 articles via a systematic process that focuses on ML, SNA, and related technological tools to understand how these tools are shaping crisis management and decision making. The analysis shows the significance of these tools in advancing sustainable crisis management to support decision making, information management, communication, collaboration and cooperation, location-based services, community resilience, situational awareness, and social position. Moreover, the findings noted that managing diverse outreach information and communication is increasingly essential. In addition, the study indicates why big data and language, cross-platform support, and dataset lacking are emerging concerns for sustainable crisis management. Finally, the study contributes to how advanced technological solutions effectively affect crisis response, communication, decision making, and overall crisis management.

The progress and evolution of technology have been rapidly transforming various aspects of our society and daily lives, including colleges and campuses into smarter environments compared to the past. Despite the numerous advantages offered by cutting-edge technologies, such as IoT-based smart campuses, academic research on their implementation suffers from a significant lack of comprehensive information necessary to deliver efficient smart campus solutions. Therefore, the focus of this study is to investigate the significance of IoT-based smart campus adoption from 14 proposed hypotheses. The researchers collected data from stakeholders affiliated with universities in Iraq, resulting in a dataset of 442 observations. To analyze this data, a two-stage approach was employed, consisting of structural equation modeling (SEM) and reevaluated with the artificial neural networks (ANN) method. The findings provide evidence supporting the significance of various constructs. In particular, the model demonstrates satisfactory predictive relevance, indicating its effectiveness in making accurate predictions or forecasts. The ANN analysis suggests that the model has predictive capabilities. Moreover, the study findings support the importance of perceived usefulness in technology-specific factors, facilitating conditions, and propagation in organizational-specific factors, government support, social influence, and external pressure in environmental-specific factors, as well as privacy concerns, self-efficacy, satisfaction, and domain-specific knowledge in end-user-specific factors. Four hypotheses related to perceived ease of use, service collaboration, habit, and innovativeness were rejected. Notably, the study identifies propagation as the most significant predictor in the ANN analysis. The conclusions of this study can be beneficial for university administrators, manufacturers, and policymakers in understanding the essential components of smart campuses to enhance the adoption and maximize the effectiveness of smart solutions.

The desire of people affected by crises or disasters is to return to their normal lives quickly and easily. Social media provides a platform for crisis response which helps recovery and resilience building. Therefore, this study aims to investigate how social media crisis response and information shaped people’s resilience-building, either affected by the flooding or not. Data collected in Malaysia after flooding consist of 375 observations. A multi-stage analysis which consists of partial least square structural equation modeling (PLS-SEM), partial least square predictions algorithm (PLS-predict), and artificial neural networks (ANN), are employed to examine the outcome of social media crisis communications. The result shows support for the significance of crisis, crisis response, social media interaction, and information seeking and sharing are not. Furthermore, the predictive relevance of the model is strong, and the root mean square error (RMSE) obtained from ANN analysis indicated a predictive model capacity. Hence, the findings demonstrated the impact of social media crisis responses that crisis management and communication may use in decision-making.
