Broadband optical absorption structures in the near infrared by coupling monolayer-graphene with periodical metal structures are proposed and demonstrated numerically. Optical absorption of graphene with over-50%-absorption bandwidth up to hundreds of nanometer caused by magnetic dipole resonances and magnetic coupling effect are investigated in detail, and the demonstrated bandwidths are one order higher than those caused by dielectric guiding mode resonances. In addition, the influences of geometrical parameters of structures are fully analyzed and these demonstrated structures show angular-insensitive absorption for oblique incidence in a large angular range. The demonstrated absorption structures in this work provide new design ideas in the realization of advanced graphene-based optoelectronic devices.

The growing demand from the extended reality and wearable electronics market has led to an increased focus on the development of flexible human-machine interfaces (HMI). These interfaces require efficient user input acquisition modules that can realize touch operation, handwriting input, and motion sensing functions. In this paper, we present a systematic review of triboelectric-based contact localization electronics (TCLE) which play a crucial role in enabling the lightweight and long-endurance designs of flexible HMI. We begin by summarizing the mainstream working principles utilized in the design of TCLE, highlighting their respective strengths and weaknesses. Additionally, we discuss the implementation methods of TCLE in realizing advanced functions such as sliding motion detection, handwriting trajectory detection, and artificial intelligence-based user recognition. Furthermore, we review recent works on the applications of TCLE in HMI devices, which provide valuable insights for guiding the design of application scene-specified TCLE devices. Overall, this review aims to contribute to the advancement and understanding of TCLE, facilitating the development of next-generation HMI for various applications.

Surface plasmon resonance (SPR) sensors based on photonic crystal fibers (PCFs) hold significant promise for high-precision detection in biochemical and chemical sensing. However, achieving high sensitivity in low-refractive-index (RI) aqueous environments remains a formidable challenge due to weak light-matter interactions. To address this limitation, this paper designs and proposes a novel dual-channel D-shaped PCF-SPR sensor tailored for the refractive index range of 1.34–1.40. The sensor incorporates a dual-layer gold/titanium dioxide film, with gold nanoparticles deposited on the surface to synergistically enhance both propagating and localized surface plasmon resonance effects. Furthermore, a D-shaped polished structure integrated with double-sided microfluidic channels is employed to significantly strengthen the interaction between the guided-mode electric field and the analyte. Finite element method simulations demonstrate that the proposed sensor achieves an average wavelength sensitivity of 5733 nm/RIU and a peak sensitivity of 15,500 nm/RIU at a refractive index of 1.40. Notably, the introduction of gold nanoparticles contributes to an approximately 1.47-fold sensitivity enhancement over conventional structures. This work validates the efficacy of hybrid plasmonic nanostructures and optimized waveguide design in advancing RI sensing performance.
