Romania, due to its historical background, has many vestigial belongings to the cultural heritage, out of which the most noticeable (by number, age, architecture, symbolism and representation) are the wooden churches. Under these circumstances the role of the current study is to emphasize certain practical aspects (focused on the need to assess, preserve, restore and valorize) regarding the use of modern technology based on photogrammetry and 3D scanning. The case study was represented by the “Saint Martyrs Constantin Brȃncoveanu and His Sons” wooden church from Oradea Municipality, Bihor County, Romania; the edifice being included on the list of historical monuments ever since 2010. The final goal being to create 3D models for both the exterior and interior of the monument for research, restoration in case of need, sharing for education, entertainment, tourism purposes etc.

With the constant availability of new designs at extremely low prices, the production and disposal of clothing have increased significantly, leading to the need for the sustainable management of processes. The implementation of established craft practices in modern sustainable mass production requires the development and application of software and hardware computer tools as well as production machinery. Although the management of textile waste for interior design articles is addressed in the scientific literature by various techniques, there is still limited data and strategies based on the use of specific algorithms. Therefore, in this research, an algorithm is proposed, with the help of which textile waste resulting from upholstery production can be reused in the creation of interior decoration parts. The algorithm is implemented in the GNU Octave 6.4 programming environment, which makes it easily redistributable and accessible. The algorithm consists of a total of six stages, offering an option for arranging the textile elements and analyzing their color characteristics. The arrangement is performed with a Voronoi diagram, and the colors are represented by a four-color circle. Moreover, data on waste textile fabrics are presented, as well as their application in the conception of interior design elements. The proposed algorithm allows designers to focus on the visual design rather than compatibility checks and constraints. The present paper provides an algorithm for reusing textile wastes, which come in a variety of shapes and colors and are produced throughout the fabric cutting phase of upholstery manufacturing, in order to identify the most optimal combinations in matching irregular waste shapes and combinations of colors, create a suitable pattern for new interior design items, and contribute to improving the sustainable management of textile waste that is produced in considerable amounts.

The present paper proposes a method for an effective analysis of Romanian folk motifs using two basic algorithms – Radius-Vector function (RV) and Principal Component Analysis (PCA). For a better accuracy of the analysis, a combination of these methods has been proposed. The authors selected few Romanian folk motifs (embroidered on blouses, skirts called “poale”, front aprons called “zadii”, sleeveless vest) from Bihor, Arad, and Maramures Counties. The vectorization of traditional motifs was made by GIS software.

This research paper presents the results obtained after analysing the answers given by a number of 170 engineering students to questions referring to the current role of English, both in engineering education and in engineers’ professional activity, especially when that activity is carried out in multinational companies. In addition, it emphasizes the importance of presenting students, during the early stages of their academic education, with the advantages provided by a good command of the English language. First, because employers in the field of engineering, especially those representing multinational companies (and such multinational companies are present in Oradea) need employees with a good grasp of English. Second, because academic education often involves the use of English for conducting research and/or for presenting the results of research.

In the last few years serious games (either digital games or board games) started to be used extensively in several developed universities due to the safe environment in which the future specialists could exercise different scenarios specific to their field of study. Teachers included them into their classes not only because serious games can provide the students with the necessary knowledge and skills for their future jobs, but also because the games could also contribute to the improvement of other skills related to communication, critical thinking, problem solving, creativity and innovation that are so much requested today on the labour market. The present study has in view the opportunity and attractiveness of introducing the serious games in the toolbox of the English teachers when introducing and practicing English for specific purposes. The study is based on the application of a questionnaire that measures the attractiveness among students to learn English for Environmental Sciences by playing a board serious game named Simplycycle. The game has been played by more than 100 students organized in teams of five students with different levels of knowledge (beginners, intermediates and advanced). The data provided by the questionnaires showed that the students presented a high degree of involvement while playing the game, a high interest in playing other serious games and that the tested serious game was used successfully even in multi-level teams.

The present paper proposes to analyse the consistency of several interpolation methods for generating a grid structure, which will be used for digital terrain modelling in the case of water retention basins (polders). The aim is to use a single dataset, from which a number of measured points will be eliminated, after which several interpolation methods will be applied to the remaining dataset in order to analyze which method yields the nearest correct (measured) value. The research focuses on comparing the reliability, consistency and sheer data accuracy (in comparison with pre-determined control points) of both the resulted grids and the noise filtered ones, to assess the performance of each method.
