There are deviations between the radio telescope antenna finite element (FE) model, founded on the design stage, and the actual working antenna structure. The original FE model cannot accurately describe the antenna structure deformation characteristics under the environmental load, thereby compromising the accuracy of the active structural compensation. This article proposes an antenna FE model updating method founded on parameter optimization with a surrogate model. The updating method updates the modulus of elasticity parameters of different components of the antenna backup structure (BUS) to obtain finite element analysis (FEA) results consistent with the actual measurement of the antenna reflector surface shape. The surrogate model founded on the multi-quadratic radial basis function (RBF) improves the computational efficiency of FE model updating, replacing the complex and time-consuming finite element analysis and calculation process. This method is implemented on a radio telescope antenna with an aperture of 25 m. The results show a significant reduction in the mismatch between the antenna and the updated FE model. This method’s calculation time is significantly reduced compared with the updating method without using the surrogate model, with the RBF surrogate model taking 1% of the time of the finite element model in the FEA calculations. The proposed method can improve the antenna FE model calculation accuracy and significantly enhance the efficiency of FE model updating calculations. Thus, it can offer a reference for antenna engineering practice.

To enhance the intelligence and digital management level of radio telescopes and ensure the safe and stable operation of antennas, this paper proposes a real-time state evaluation method for the antenna structure of radio telescopes based on digital twin (DT) technology. Firstly, based on the five-dimensional model of DT, a digital twin system (DTs) framework for radio telescopes is designed. Secondly, the quadric error metrics (QEM) mesh-simplification algorithm and mesh-reconstruction technology are employed to obtain a lightweight twin model of the antenna. Furthermore, a random forest (RF) regression surrogate model is established using finite element point cloud data samples. The K-nearest neighbor (KNN) algorithm and radial basis function (RBF) interpolation algorithm are utilized to construct the virtual–physical mapping model of the antenna, enabling rapid prediction and evaluation of the antenna structure state. Finally, a DT for real-time antenna structure state evaluation is developed using the Unity3D engine, with an experimental prototype of a reflector antenna as the object. Experimental results show that the average prediction accuracy of the physical field surrogate model of the system is 0.98, and the average computation time is 0.4 s. The system meets the precision and computational efficiency requirements for the real-time and accurate evaluation of the antenna structure state.

Optical instrumentation with reliable performance is essential for the research of exoplanet atmosphere characteristics. However, due to long distances and weak signals, exoplanets are difficult to be imaged by traditional optical systems. To this end, a novel optical system based on transit spectroscopy is proposed in this paper. On the basis of the principle of the transit-spectroscopy method and the astronomical parameters of observed targets, the optional parameter ranges of a dedicated optical system are analyzed. The transit signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) is introduced for the determination of telescope aperture and throughput. Furthermore, an example of the optical system with a space telescope and spectrometer is proposed according to the above optical index, which is proven to meet the performance requirements. The optical system is required to cover the wavelength of 0.5–8 μm and the field of view (FOV) of 27.9″ within the diffraction limit. The collecting aperture should be greater than 2 m, and spectral resolutions of two spectrometer channels should approximately be 100 (2–4 μm) and 30 (4–8 μm). The point-spread function (PSF) of each channel at the minimal wavelength should cover 2 pixels. The telescope and dichroic system provide diffraction-limited input beams with the required aperture, FOV, and wavelength for the spectrometer slits. The simulation results of the optical system show that the spectral resolutions of the dual-channel spectrometer were 111–200 and 43–94. The image points of the spectrometer in each wavelength were smaller than the Airy spot within the slit FOV, and the full width at half-maximum (FWHM) of PSF at λmin provided 2 pixels of 18 μm sampling. The feasibility of the demonstrated optical parameters is proven by the design.

Microwave holographic measurement technology is a common method used in antenna measurement. This method has high measurement efficiency and high precision. To evaluate and enhance the antenna’s performance, it is crucial to precisely determine the surface deformation. In this paper, the effects of feed offset error and scanning error on the antenna microwave holographic measurement results are investigated, and corresponding error compensation methods are proposed. The relationship between the influence of the error sources on the antenna gain loss and surface deformation accuracy is established. The reasons for holographic measurement errors, their characteristics, and their specific impact on system performance can be better understood. In order to improve the accuracy of the measurement, the compensation methods for the different measurement errors are given. They can provide the theoretical basis for maintaining and enhancing the performance of antenna system.

Accurate kinematic calibration of subreflector actuators is essential for pointing precision of large radio telescopes, particularly at high frequencies. Conventional least-squares methods are vulnerable to noise and outliers, and their accuracy may degrade when limited pose diversity leads to poor parameter excitation. To address these challenges, this paper proposes a novel robust self-calibration framework that integrates Huber loss and L2 regularization into the Levenberg–Marquardt (LM) algorithm—yielding a hybrid optimization approach that combines residual robustness, numerical stability, and convergence reliability. A comprehensive simulation study was conducted under varying workspace sizes and sensor noise levels. The proposed method maintained stable performance even under reduced excitation and high-noise conditions, where traditional LM methods typically degrade, confirming its robustness and applicability to realistic calibration scenarios. The framework was further validated using a structured-light 6-DOF pose measurement system, the proposed method achieved over 90% improvement in both position and orientation accuracy compared to the traditional LM approach. These findings confirm the method’s effectiveness for high-precision 6-DOF calibration in parallel mechanisms, and its suitability for real-world applications in radio telescope subreflector alignment.

The accuracy of the pointing error in the subreflector is of great importance to the large steerable radio telescope, so the measurement of the six degree-of-freedom (DOF) poses of the subreflector is crucial, which are measured by the detector and the laser array. The errors in the pose measurement system of the subreflector contain random measure errors and fitting iteration errors; all of them will add up to the pose measurement, which affects the accuracy of the six DOF parameters. This paper proposed the accuracy analysis method in the pose measurement of the subreflector of large antennas, which includes the error in the variable model in laser three-dimensional point space linear fitting, iterative accuracy analysis of spatial equations in Newton’s downhill method, and the analysis of the adjustment theory of the Bursa model. The experimental results show that the measure time in six-DOF poses of the subreflector in a large-aperture antenna is at most 0.5 s, while the measurement accuracy error of translation is within 0.0131 mm and the error of rotation is within 0.2323°, which indicates that the pose measurement method of the subreflector in large antennas based on stereo structured light is efficient and applicable enough to analyze the measurement system accuracy.
